Had to be lies!
Real life couldn't produce such crap.
John Nolan exposed this "self-aggrandizing, simple-minded, poorly observed, repetitious, maudlin drivel" in his July 2003 review A Million Pieces of Shit.
An excerpt:
"I step forward and I hug her. There is emotion in the hug, and there is respect and a form of love. Emotion that comes from honesty, respect that comes from challenge, and the form of love that exists between people whose minds have touched, whose souls have touched. Our minds touched. Our hearts touched. Our souls touched."
You be the judge.
John Nolan was also one of the first (the first?) to publicly call Frey a liar in a reviewreview of Freys next (even worse book). -
A million little pieces of shit
The only people who believed Frey wanted to be fooled: Glory to Dr. Dolan, as they say.

Re:I agree
The Eiffel Tower was built using a wooden scaffold http://www.tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/uk/documentatio
n /dossiers/page/construction.html . I imagine that the 300 steelworkers who built the Tower were "real men". I can hear the hordes of American french-bashers, you guys need to read up on history http://www.exile.ru/2003-October-02/war_nerd.html . -
Mod parent into oblivion
This won't stand. Speaking as one of those descendants of Normans, I am very proud of my French ancestry. As for the rest of your tired, old, tedious, racist rant, here is an apt rebuttal. The attention of the audience is drawn in particular to the terms "ungrateful", and "ignorant", both of which apply fully in their rich buttery goodness to you, you troll.

An entertaining overview of French military history:

agreed, and here's a great article by the war nerd dispelling the myth of french being militarily incompetent: http://www.exile.ru/2003-October-02/war_nerd.html

life in Russia
http://www.exile.ru/ A lot of it seems to be written after drinking way too much alchool. A lot of it seem to be written by Americans in exile that don't seem to like America all that much. But give the links a try.

Still, it's better for the group to be more quiet than less quiet. Besides, carrier groups are a thing of the past.

Re:Coming to America
Please re-read my post. I have shown that what is happening today is not indiscriminate. It is a direct outcome of European actions up through the end of WWII. It is hard decisions to pick the lesser of two evils when perhaps you have to pick the greater of two evils today to avoid an even greater evil tomorrow.
History does not turn on a dime and the Europeans were doing EXACTLY what you claim they don't only 60 years ago during WWII and less than 40 years ago in the USSR You do know where the word you used ("gulag") comes from, right? I expect, given just half a chance, it will happen again.
Don't kid yourself and think that what is coming from Bin Laden and his friends is "anti-American" as it is not. It is "anti-Infidel" and Europeans are as guilty as we are of that.
As a penultimate statement, Europeans have honed international political bickering into an artform over the course of centuries while Americans have only been at it for about a single career span. As a result, I am not surprised that sentiment has been steered against us. If the French, Germans, et alia were not badmouthing us as a way of distracting their people from their low GDPs, I would be very surprised.
In closing, I would like to point out the article 18 Ways to Hate Your Neighbour.

Your neo-con, FAUXnews-programmed troll brain might not like it, but I still recommend you to read this.

Re:Oh! A scatological joke! Hoooooow funny!
our lovely 90 Kilogram Soviet beauties.
90 Kilos!?!? You can keep your 90Kg Soviet beauties! (That's 198 lbs!) In Kapitalist Amerika, we don't need backup propulsion for our SUVs... they just work! No wonder you've given up on going to Mars. No rocket could send one of your "Soviet beauties" with enough life support to survive the trip. (Not that you Commies were ever overly preoccupied with your Cosmonauts returning...)
And take Anna Nicole Smith with you, you Commie chubby chaser! I'll take your scrawny, corrupt, effete, counter-revolutionary devotchkas
Yes, I suggest further examination of the insidious West infecting the pure revolutionary heart with their subversive, expatriate ideas. Long live the Czar! Long live the Counter-Revolution!

History is a bath of blood.
I know this is a technological site and the nerds are on the side of the robot overlords but these robots won't replace men having to kill other men or men being killed by other men. Men are needed to deal with other men. I will actually rephrase that statement and say professional soldiers are needed to protect some members of society because of the nature of other sociopathic men.
There will be constant fighting for the next 50 to 100 years or so in Central Asia, the Middle East and South East Asia whether we like it or not and REAL human beings, as in the professional soldiers of the world, are going to be there policing on the ground against the tribal warlords, drug dealers and militias that rape and pillage these areas.
Robots, IMO, are a pipe dream of the generals of the US army and goes to show that they have no idea of what goes on at the killing level of conflict. The generals, scientists and engineers need to interact more with the soldiers. The soldiers are the guys who know the reality of conflict. The Generals and scientists view of conflict are abstractions. The generals make conflict an abstraction by seeing it as grand strategy and the scientists view war as a playground for new technology. Throughout history man has attempted to counter the brutality of war through weird ways because of this level of abstraction and complete detachment from the fact that men slaughter each other. An example here http://www.jonronson.com/goats_04.html
Fighters will find a way around this technology like they always have e.g http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/wartech/nature.html.
This isn't a new idea and many a strategist in the last twenty years has pointed it out. Do google search of "Ralph Peters" Parameters or "Martin Van Creveld" "The transformation of war" for an example.
Even some of the public are starting to get 'it', war nerd as an example.

Re:Sounds good to me.
Thinking... one second... two seconds... three seconds... because most of the world is so envious of the U.S. they can't stand it? The U.S. economy, political will, and military dominate the world and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Pax Americana -- Get used to it.
In the meantime, read 18 Ways to Hate Your Neighbour to find out how unbigoted Europeans are. Here's a sample:
War Deaths in Europe by decade
1900-1910: 5,000
1911-1920: 20,000,000
1921-1930: 3,000,000
1931-09/1939: 500,000
1940-1949: 49,000,000
1951-1960: 100,000
1961-1970: 2,000
1971-1980: 2,500
1981-1990: 3,000
1991-2000: 260,000Oops, seems there's quite a lot of bigotry and hate in Europe!

This is a bad idea.
This simulation sounds like a bad idea. As with any mathamatecal model, it is only as good as the assumptions made, regardless of the resolution. This is exactly the kind of thinking that screwed us up in vietnam. Our foregn policy was being decided by mathmaticians when it should have been decided by historians. I get the impression this is planning for the next Faluja. Our problems in Iraq are not due to bad tactics, they are caused by bad strategy. I dont care how well your soldiers are trained; in urban combat the best kill ratio you can hope for is 10 to 1. We don't need more teraflops we need some good old fashoned common sense. http://www.exile.ru/archive/by_author/gary_breche

Gun ownership? Screw that, it's all about RPGs these days. They'll pry my rocket launcher from my cold dead hands!

Not so shinyThis reviewer makes some good points (particularly re: casting) although he is also a bit of a ranter/arm-waver. I came away from the film(s) thinking they were good; this gave me pause for thought and I've modified my views somewhat.

Here's an interesting review of the trilogy...
Found this review which presents an interesting counterpoint in perspective to those enjoined by most of the press. Read it and... weep?

Not as good as the flamethrower option for South African cars: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/9812/11/flame.thr

For an idea of why this was ever considered you can read a few articles of Natasha Marchetti's Mandela Porn: http://exile.ru/176/176160000.html
Guaranteed to make you loose that good feeling that you got when you helped defeat Apartheid. -
Re:this license isThe only thing that should be exported to North Korea is a hail of depleted uranium slugs. They have a dictator who rivals General Butt Naked in freaky saddism. He kidnapped a bunch of South Korean actors and movie directors and held them prisoner and made them produce horrible films about villagers getting eaten by robots. He has soldiers who clamp iron rings through the noses of people crossing the Chinese border to steal food in violation of his state starvation policy.
And you are complaining because you can't send him a Plan 9 cd ? Give me a fucking break. If you don't like it here, move there.

Re:Tech OverkillFor information on what you are talking about, I give you the War Nerd on an over-hyped product of the current war in Iraq (which so far hasn't been used, but the war is young):
MOAB: the Monster Truck of American Ordnance
Of course, I can't think of a single contingency where it would be sane or smart to use the MOAB, either. Even if we had a real war with real American interests (as opposed to Brown & Root interests) at stake rather than a neoimperial war to recolonize a former British colony (with American masters now, of course), I can't think of a good reason to use it. If we ever had a real war, tac nukes make more sense.
It's the same thing with these super teched out uniforms. We are fighting colonial wars in impoverished Third World countries that have no hope of actually beating the U.S. in conventional warfare. The big scary villains right now are Iran and North Korea, and the only reason they are "scary" is because if they kill too many of our soldiers it will look bad in the polls, but these teched out uniforms won't help with that. Good body armor, good vehicle armor, and lots of air support is what is needed. Iran and North Korea have no hope of beating the U. S., which spends more on its military than the next 14 nations combined, even if they use a couple of nukes.
Asymmetrical warfare is based on the idea that the enemy (assuming you are in the position of a guerilla/terrorist) is patient, hides well, and constantly scans the enemy for weak points. In the case of terrorists, there will always be a huge number of targets as long as the U.S. is at all a nice place to live, and even if it turns into East Berlin I don't think they can completely shut down terrorism. (A guy in South Korea recently showed what could be done with ordinary gasoline and a subway, for example. He did much better than those Japanese fanatics with their Sarin gas bags.) In our colonies, like Iraq, it will be guerilla warfare. They'll keep testing the defenses, and I suspect they will find weaknesses. (This is why up until recently U. S. wars were supposed to have something called an exit strategy. In other words, the war ends, the troops come home, rather than being permanently deployed to foriegn combat zones.)
So why spend money on all this high-tech but useless and detrimental gear? Well, war is a racket, as Major General Smedley Butler said, and a big part of the racket is bilking the American taxpayer out of billions of dollars to buy weapons that the military should neither need nor want.
