I want to know.. legally
see, my big issue is that I can't stand to listen to anything less then 320 kbps (mp3), if not an 8- or 16-bit
/22/44.1 KHz aiffs or wavs..
I really don't like the sound of the high-bitrate oggs, which is very unfortunate, since I very much want to support the format.
The worst part is, (other than ripping my own AACs from my DVDs/CDs and my own music) I can't hear what these supposedly-ripped-from-masters AACs sound like! You see, I live in the Great White North.
So if and when the service comes to Canada, I will be sure to check it out.
..hopefully they'll have higher bitrates available at that time.
The silver lining? I purchased a happy new 7200 rpm 80GB drive yesterday to replace my 30GB and complement my 60GB, with the purchase of a Firewire enclosure looming in the very near future for the drive without a home. Ahh.. room to breathe.
Last word? I don't want to search for AACs or mp4s on any file sharing programs, as I very much want to pay for good (sounding) music. If it must be compressed for the retail cost (argued for a loong time by the labels, I'm sure) to not soar to what we now see as stupid prices, then I pray that the available bitrate goes up and the service becomes available to a few more countries.

I grabbed it, at a miserable 81 BYTES per second!

Nobody..
can touch Hammerhead.. he rules too much to believe.
My buddy had an AT-AT ( link 1,

Here's some posts as to why AT-AT's are 'retarded'.

Bug List A list of bugs in THE that need to be fixed. When all astrixed items are completed we will make our first release.
External Technical Spec Before going on to the design of the visually-oriented zooming portion of The Humane Environment (THE), it seems wise to specify the low-level interactions that take place within the document-centric portion. Also, this portion allows interaction by the visually impaired. We specify first that software necessary to demonstrate LEAP and some of the selection and command interface techniques and other benefits described in "The Humane Interface" [Raskin, 2000]. THE is intended to run on at least Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms. This specification describes the first portions to be implemented and gives some indications for future directions.
Joining the THE Team This is an unusual open-source project in that we are exploring a user interface and programming environment that is quite different than current practice. This document explains where to begin to become a contributer.
Manual The user manual, written for developers of the Humane Environment
Mission Statement To make computer technology available to a wider audience than has been possible by radically and rationally improving its usability.
Using CVS and Sourceforge.net This guide should get you a copy of the Humane Environment in its development incarnation. It is not quite ready for general user application. When it is, we will set up a simple, straightforward download.

Flash is not the ultimate solution
Although this is just a rumour, it scares me to the depths of my being. If I lose the one app I live for (outside of Reason, of course ;)) I'll be pretty pissed.. I have been waiting for Director MX for what seems like an eternity, and now that I have it, I could not live without it again.
I could care less about Flash, and although the majority of my former classmates in the Multimedia program at Humber College are deep into it, touting its crappy-ass feature set as the be-all and end-all of interactive site development, I know that any and all of its features were in Director/Shockwave first.
Example: Flash can only handle 2 minutes of video, and it has to be run through the sorenson compressor.
Director, on the other hand, can handle unlimited amounts of video, using quicktime or real, with any compression scheme.
Flash's 3D features? None.. but you can use third-party apps like swift 3d to create/convert 3D from other programs.
Director has an insane amount of control available for 3D, with many behaviours (reusable sets of code) in its built-in library, and powerful scripting control.
Flash's multiuser ability is getting there, but Director has it soundly beat once again, having had the multiuser toolkit for a number of years now.
Plus, Director MX can kick out runtime apps for OS 9, X and win platforms with many options and abilities. Flash can only do so much to begin with, so it falls behind in this department as well.
Now don't get me wrong, the last thing I want is for Microsoft to get their slimy hands on more useful apps, ready to bleed them dry and destroy them until they are a living shell of their former selves.. Any time MS buys a company, an angel dies.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all on Slashdot.

Re:Ahh.... SoundEdit
When I boot into Mac OS 9, I still occasionally use SoundEdit 16.. love that app..
I first got the program when it was made by Farallon, and bundled with the MacRecorder (audio input hardware), which provided me with countless hours of entertainment for sampling and rearranging on my old Macs.. IIci, IIsi, SE/30
Man, I had a ball cutting up Janet Jackson and Midnight Oil and mixing them with Public Enemy and Pop Will Eat Itself.

Re:Who do you want to own today?
I own Aldus Freehand.
:)
Still runs great on my old macs, along with Illustrator 88, Dark Castle, and a plethora of other great titles which will never be equalled in terms of simplicity and their adherence to the mac interface.

very important
I think we underestimate how important it is to keep his memory, and moreso, his "humour ethic" in mind as we face daily life..
I should have a HHG desktop wallpaper up soon here. -
good stuff
glad to hear it, that about says it.. authoring for this format is definitely the way to go.

Flash Blows
Yeah, not a flame, nor a troll, but Flash does really blow.
What does it blow, you ask?
It blows sheep, goats, and other farm animals.
If you really want a solution that will work for multiuser stuff, as well as handle MORE THAN 2 FREAKING MINUTES OF VIDEO, you should definitely go with Shockwave. Director rules all.
Here's a toy!
Hope we can get off our Flash high horse and start pushing towards better things. There are but a handful of people who know how to use Flash properly, and you're not one of them ;)
I quote:
"Everyone in the universe has a hardon for Flash. There are aliens
visiting Earth right now trying to get Flash. Beings from other
dimensions are extruding into our four just to have access to Flash.
Bacteria are evolving into eukaryotic symbiotes so they can form more
complex colonial creatures which eventually specialize and
differentiate, developing eyespots and a notochord, eventually
transforming into a vertebral column and enlarged anterior ganglion
-- developing musculature, skeletal structure and so on, just so they
can have fingers so they can use them to work with Flash.
That said, the only practical use anyone has actually found for Flash
is those "Skip Intro" pages that everyone skips with a grunt of mild
irritation.

I will be doing whatever I can to help in this battle, even if it means just sharing my music and encouraging others to do the same.

it begins..
worse and worse...
this really isn't that big of a deal to me right now, as I don't use Kazaa (and I'm not mentioning what I use!!) or RoadRunner,
but if / WHEN this were to happen here,
in Canada,
with other software's ports,
and Roger's and/or Bell net service,
we'll all be screwed, royally screwed.

Yes.
As an indie musician, I will be sharing my music through Audiogalaxy and will encourage other musicians to do the same,
though
once the public's faith in it has been shaken, noone will even touch the app again!
I doubt that, after today, AG will get even 5% of their regular number of hits..
Again, the same as Napster.
On another note, does anyone know if your own shared songs can still be sent to groups? Thanks for any insight.
Last but not least, cheers to the maker of Sputnix. A great little app that always had good updates and stability going for it, you did a wicked job. Thanks again.
We can win.
