Re:GKG and InternetX support DNSSEC
I second GKG.net. I've used them for my domains. They were a little slow to add DNSSEC support for some of the gTLDs when each Registry turned up support, but once they added it, I've been in the process of moving domains back.
The only thing I see is they still don't support dot-MOBI. Not really a big deal, as that TLD domain appears to be a flop (wouldn't you want a mobile domain to be *shorter,* not longer?)

GKG and InternetX support DNSSEC
I strongly recommend using GKG.net, as they have the best (automated) XML interface that I know of. See their documentation
InternetX also has a good interface, but it is a little more complex to get going.
Those, as well as GoDaddy, which you can only process using ugly web scraping with BeautifulSoup and Mechanize, were the first ones we supported in our DNSSEC Signer product.

Re:What registrar would you recommend?
I had about 30 domains with GoDaddy, and was very unhappy with their user interface and customer service. I wanted to be able to make mass changes to the domains, such as name servers. I tried a few different ones and settled on gkg.net. It's not the prettiest, but it's inexpensive and reliable, and the website UI is simple (no crazy Ajax, Flash interface, browser requirements, etc). For my highly important business domains, I went with DynDNS, which is slightly more expensive, but has a clean and beautiful site, offers various other services I use, and has a theoretically more reliable infrastructure, since they run DNS and registration for big names. I've been very happy with both.
Oh, and I also had a virtual server with GoDaddy, which I switched to Linode, and SSL certificates, which I switched to theSSLstore.com. Extremely happy with those too. And extremely happy to finally be rid of GoDaddy. -
Re:Alternatives?I've been reading about the evils of Network Solutions and GoDaddy and the like. I was wondering if anyone had any alternatives to recommend for anyone looking for a decent registrar? Thanks in advance. I recommend GKG. Been using them for years and have never had a single problem.

Re:Read it even more carefully.
I'm actually not sure if you can still get 3rd and 4th-level delegations. I'm assuming you can for "official" gov, school (k12), library (lib), etc. business. I know you cannot get personal/business ones like the one that I have, those are no longer available, you just have to pay and get one right off of
.US.
I too dislike NSI, but .ORG isn't under their control anymore, but under the ISC's PIR, which I very much like. I have some .NETs from way back, but at least I have them over at GKG.NET. One thing I like about GKG.net is their free email address cloaking. -
GKG.NET offers $5.99 transfers...I noticed last week, that GKG.NET is offering all RegisterFly customers a chance to transfer to them for only $5.99. That's better than GoDaddy's $6.95 price. I see that they have also lowered their transfer price from $7.49 to $6.95!
Not bad. I have all mine at GKG, and have never had a problem with them.

Another reason to leave GoDaddy! That's just silly to assume that because your state does not observe DST, you don't have to fix your servers...
Glad I use GKG.NET. They didn't go down at all. I even called them on Friday and asked if they were up to date with their DST fixes, and they assured me they were.

Re:Questions: Others? Who do you recommend?
I have used gkg.net for many years, for a number of domains. Between various clients and associates the domains would number in the hundreds. Never had any problems of any sort.

GKG.net
GKG.net does not seem to list the features. Do they provide email forwarding, for example?
-
GKGI use GKG.NET, INC.
Great customer service and comparable price wise to GoDaddy.

Re:Impressively retarded
GKG.net rocks!

GKG.NET - A Linux shopThat's why I still continue to use GKG.NET.
They have always been a Linux/Unix shop. The problem GoDaddy had last year with Parked pages not working on Safari was not a problem at GKG.
They're priced the same as GoDaddy (in most cases). So if security is an issue, switch to GKG!.

Re:Go Away DaddyThere is... It's called GKG
I have over 300 domains registered with GKG, and have never had a problem.
-
GKGAt GKG they have a report inaccurate whois link.
Any domains registered there, will be investigated and if found to have invalid contact information the owner will be given a chance to correct it, or the domain will be taken away from them.
Pretty cool idea.

What about GKGGKG is the registrar I use... Their prices match (or sometimes even beat) GoDaddy's and their control panel is a hell of a lot better to use than GoDaddy's...
I've never liked GoDaddy's control panel, too cumbersome, but GKG's is nice and easy to use.
According to their site, they've been in business 13 years. Oh and it looks like they just added
.us domains too! Cool!!! Time to transfer my final .us domains from GoDaddy to GKG. -
Re:Some registrars will protect you
Agreed. I have been using GKG
Not a single complaint on my end, and they rolled out domain locking (automagically) over a month ago.
-
Re:Some registrars will protect youAre there any that won't screw you over, on this and other issues?
I use GKG.NET as my registrar. So far they have the lowest prices on registrations without pushing all the extra junk you don't need or want on you each time you register or renew a domain name.
Their control panel is very easy to use and their support is pretty damn good.

Re:dotster.com may be a concern as well
no you should transfer all your domains over to GKG. No I don't work for them but they've been really really good and I've never had a problem with them at all.

Re:Go Daddy and less SpamI went to these guys. Same results: less spam, more control, and lower prices than Verisign/NetSol/whatever.
And on top of that, they gave me an extra year for free for transferring to them. How nice of them

Re:Is there a good registrar review site anywhere?
I've gotta throw in a plug for gkg.net, they're good, and cheap, 10/year, and I've never had a problem with them.
-
Re:Did he ask who to move to?
Um. WTF. People are just providing this guy with what they believe to be the best answer long-term, which is, in many people's opinion (one which I agree with, BTW) to get as far away from Verisign/NSI as possible. There are many registrars (as well as OpenSRS resellers, like Tucows) who (a) charge less per year, (b) give FAR better service, and (c) give you much less runaround.
At my work, we've found that GKG is an excellent, responsive registrar, with extremely low yearly fees. We had tried, prior to moving our domain to GKG, to get our billing info corrected. The guy who is in charge of taking care of the domain issues (not me, but a coworker) tried over and over, calling NSI and using their online forms, and faxing them too IIRC, to get the billing info corrected, but it never got fixed, and no real explanation as to what the problem was was ever given. On the other hand, getting domain information modified has been a joy with GKG - immediate changes, none of the constant submit-reject-resubmit cycle that happened over and over with NSI.
Feel free to make up your own mind, but the people who are saying "switch registrars" are saying so because they've probably had similar frustration in the past with NSI, which triggered the move to switch in the first place. In other words, they're speaking from experience. -
Re:Do What I Do...
And then what? Now you have a domain being held by NSI, they're not receiving payment from you for it and you're going to expect them to suddenly comply with your request? If anything, a tatic like that will get your domain stuffed in a hole even further from reach.
You may try GKG.net They've helped me get domains away from the clutches of NSI in the past. Like all of the other registrars mentioned here, they have good customer service, bla bla.

you can register it somewhere.
I am sure that many of the ICANN registrars will allow this. I know for fact that the registrar I work for (GKG.NET, INC) will allow you to register domain names of this type. So you could register your domain HERE.

Re:Domain Hijacking....I've talked to numerous people who have had this happen to them who have transferred their domains from netsol to the company I work at to avoid this happening again (http://register.gkg.net/).
The system we have in place requires domain contacts to log in over an SSL connection to make changes to their domains, which is much safer than the email system NSI uses.
