I've seen domain/host name data since 1997 for the purposes of protecting users vs. threats online & I recognize when a 'trend' begins from various hosts online being abused due to it.
* Oddly, malwarebytes' personnel (who host & recommend it @ their hpHosts site, a source of custom hosts data) uses AMAZON for their daily dynamic updates (they had to - hpHosts' regular servers couldn't handle the loads of demand for their data - which oddly (not) coincided w/ my program being featured there).
APK
P.S.=> You're right though - MANY 'cloud' system are being rampantly abused for no good... apk

Re:He's literally not
For some bizarre reason this turned into a left vs right issue, but that's how everything works in the US because we're not smart enough to understand anything more nuanced than two political stances.
The important thing to remember about parties in the US system is that they don't actually represent consistent ideological positions; that's largely a convenient fiction. Ideology tends to divide people along fine distinctions, which works in a parliamentary system because a small party can join a governing coalition. In fact small parties often play kingmaker and wield a great deal of power. In the American system being a small party like the Greens means you get nothing. Ever.
In the US we have to build our cross-ideological coalition within the parties, which requires a lot of creative rationalization and, to put it bluntly, emotional manipulation. That's why the Democrats have trade unionists and minorities on one hand, and the Republicans have evangelicals and the Log Cabin Republicans on the other. These groups have little intrinsic motivation to support each other, except that's the only way to get a share of power.
This means that to understand a party you cant just go by the pictures they paint of themselves (never a good idea with any group); you need to look at their history. And that explains those Republican ranchers and their undocumented workers. From Reconstruction until the 1960s the Republican party was regional party that represented Northern and later Western business interests. The in 1964 Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. That very year arch-segregationist Strom Thurmond switched parties from Democrat to Republican, and the Republicans for the first time ever gained a foothold in the South and a nation-wide scope that has allowed them to dominate the House of Representatives since the early 90s.
A Democratic hyperpartisan will tell you the post-Nixon Republicans embraced racism, but really what they did was smarter: they embraced nativism. Nativism had considerable appeal to racists while being more acceptable to traditional Republicans. However this also conflicted with business interests (especially agricultural ones), so the Republican party adopted a regime of hard rhetoric and and harsh but deliberately ineffective measures. If you don't believe me, check out this graph of undocumented Mexicans in the US and note the transition from the Bush era to the Obama era. Obama actually stepped up deportations pretty much from the get go, particularly of criminals.
At the same time the adoption of nativism by the Republicans makes the Democrats' job easier. While from a strict trade-unionist position undocumented workers are a bad thing, in practical terms the impacts aren't in jobs where there is a strong union, because the union prevents employers from paying low wages to non-union workers.

Re: Cloud services should be renamed
I used to use MyPhoneExplorer to sync my Android phone with my Windows desktop. There's a corresponding desktop client. Worked very well.
You could then use something like Duplicati to sync with a cloud provider. I use it to backup to my own server over SSH.

Re:What note solution?
I researched this the last time Evernote bumped their prices by 40%+
1. EssentialPIM – Personal Information Manager for Windows, iOS and Android
2. Efficcess - Free Personal Information Manager (PIM) SoftwareNotes Organizer - Google Search
1. Notes Organizer - The Official Home of AlfaPad - PIM
2. TreeDBNotes Free PIM, Notes organizer, Document manager software
3. TreeDBNotes Pro: Personal Information Manager, Notes Organizer, Contact Manager, Password manager, Task manager
4. TreeNotes - Notes Manager, Notes Organizer for Windows - Notes in tree - Free trial
5. WhizFolders, Notes Organizer and Outliner for Windows
6. Treepad: Personal Information Manager, Notes Organizer, Word Processor, PIM, Database and more! They all have better pricing than Evernote. Efficcess has a Lifetime license for 99.95, as well as Business|Enterprise options.
Most of the purely free options that I skimmed through don't support rich-text or embedding images.

Re: Article disagreement
They leaked some old ones, actually: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/02/us/politics/donald-trump-taxes.html?_r=0
As for this story, it makes no sense. The email in question is here and for some reason, I was unable to find any links to it in either article. As an aside, why do media outlets fail so badly at citing sources like this? It should be utterly basic journalism, but the major papers routinely fail to do this very basic step and wonder why bloggers eat their lunch... This was first reported many weeks ago, they're severely behind the times on this. I mean, you know it's bad when you're scooped by Slashdot commenters.... sheesh!
Back on topic, the relevant part of the response to the spear phishing email says this:
This is a legitimate email. John needs to change his password immediately, and ensure that two-factor authentication is turned on his account. He can go to this link: https://myaccount.google.com/s... to do both. It is absolutely imperative that this is done ASAP.
If you or he has any questions, please reach out to me at [redacted]
It's definitely an illegitimate email, but there's more wrong with the statement above than just typing "a legitimate email" instead "an illegitimate email." Being illegitimate means they DON'T yet have his password, so there would be no reason to change it and no good reason to advise that! Two-factor authentication, however, is very reasonable.
We know from the stats on the bit.ly link to the phishing page that Podesta didn't follow his instructions to go to https://myaccount.google.com/security though, and it's true that we can't hold Charles Delavan responsible for that part.

Re:Colour me suprised
Meanwhile at work my iOS counterparts get native Office 365 integration in the mail / calender app, while I have to use a third party android app that only seems to automatically sync on Wifi. Same when we were on Lotus Traveler.
Plus the iOS viewers for PDF, Word, Excel, PPT open instantly, while you may have to find and install third party apps on Android.
For PDFs at least I found "Radaee PDF Reader" and "Mupdf" can provide almost instantaneous viewing capability, far better than Adobe, or any office suite.
For Office stuff (Word/excel/PPT) Kingston / WPS Office seem ok.

I've never tried to belittle (APK's) work, I've flat out said it's good by BronsCon
APK is kinda right. I've tried his hosts file generating software. It works by bmo
APK is totally right on this count. Adblock Plus on Firefox mobile is a dog on older, or lower end, phones. A hostfile based adblocker makes for a much better experience by chihowa
I like your host file system by Karmashock

Haven't had to work for anyone in a decade++
See subject: My money works for me. I chose "ability to work on meaningful projects" for more speed, security, reliability + anonymity via what you already have NATIVELY in FASTER kernelmode vs. SLOWER usermode "so-called 'solutions'" that are security issue riddled (local DNS/antivirus) using FAR MORE RESOURCES doing less (addons that don't work fully anymore in "AlmostALLAdsBlocked" http://www.businessinsider.com/google-microsoft-amazon-taboola-pay-adblock-plus-to-stop-blocking-their-ads-2015-2/ or inferior imitations UBlock (uses hosts but provides no dns issue solutions) that are ILLOGICALLY "Bolt on 'MoAr'" inefficient & inferior + SLOWER http://superuser.com/questions/686041/which-leads-to-faster-browsing-an-ad-blocker-or-an-edited-hosts-file/

Re:I do embedded software
I always tell the new Engineers they don't really know CANape until they've read it in the original German.
Trying to create a Python CFFI driver is a nightmare the only thing I have to go on is the
.h file they include with an install. And one document. The only hit for multiple different function names.I have no idea who this sort of stuff is marketed towards but it's definitely not anything I've done in the last decade or so of industry.
