Re:Good
You DO realize this is the SECOND time she has been fired for harassing customers, right?
The first time was from Paizo Publishing.
Lastly, Deroir isn't just any Guild Wars 2 streamer, he is an ArenaNet partner and even has an NPC named after him in the game.He is one of the largest Guild Wars 2 streamers around.
Furthermore, he even apologized BEFORE she was fired.
So much for an open discussion I guess. I meant no disrespect AT ALL. Never did. Never will. Neither did I imply I knew better. Nor has this ANYTHING to do with gender. Never did. Never will.
I will retract my comment, cause obviously I'm in the wrong forum for this kind of talkFrankly, you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

Re:Good
> Or, she's a very pleasant person
False.
1. She was glad that Total Biscuit died. WTF!?
Price: The kindest thing I can say is "I'm glad he's no longer around to keep doing harm."
Skinner: Who passed?
Price: T*talB*scuit
Who the hell is glad someone died from cancer?!?!?!
2. She was fired from fired from Paizo Publishing for her LONG history of harassment.
3. This is the second time she has been fired from a job for harassment. Mike O'Brien, the president of ArenaNet, called called her bullshit out.
Recently two of our employees failed to uphold our standards of communicating with players. Their attacks on the community were unacceptable. As a result, theyâ(TM)re no longer with the company.
I want to be clear that the statements they made do not reflect the views of ArenaNet at all. As a company we always strive to have a collaborative relationship with the Guild Wars community. We value your input. We make this game for you.
Stupid Juvenile Whiners blame everyone else and never take responsibility.
/sarcasm But keep believing she is a "nice" person. -
Re:That reminds me...
Guild Wars 2. It's buy to play (which means no monthly subscription, so you can play whenever you feel like it), and right now, it is -50% off.

Re:In other words, Don't Pay for Promises.
I have been avoiding the Battlefield franchises ever since 4 has been announced. So far, I have been happy with the result. So the money I saved from not buying that (and any future Battlefield game in general), it all went to fancy extras in Guild Wars 2. Satisfied with what I got since that's virtually all I play nowadays. That's my value.
I have seen the decline for a while. But BF3 was definitely the last straw. Until EA and DICE straighten up and start making quality games that supports the community rather than themselves, I won't be bothering with any of the Battlefield games.

Re:Guild Wars 2...if it fits your niche
A few pointers: You talking about soloing the behe 20% is kinda silly. That guy have never been a challenge. And then you compare that (which is probably the least threatening world event in the game) with the (at that time) hardest one.. Now most of the world events provide a small challenge, and Tequatl is kinda.. off the hook. And your 100blade spvp build is practically useless if you play against people who *can* play - which is most PvP'ers these days.
And that "PR" anecdote did happen. First of all, they were new players, second those plush griffons do hit quite hard, and have more HP than a usual mob that level. Knowing that, and the fact that they're melee, I also knew how to effectively take them down with the tools I had. They didn't.
If you want to try a real challenge, you could try logging in to your gw2 account, and go fight the Kol Skullsmasher a bit. Or visit the new Tequatl
:)As for ele damage dealing.. Got these video recommendations from my guild's ele expert :

Re:Guild Wars 2...if it fits your niche
Do you even have a max level character?
My first lvl 80 was a warrior. I know perfectly well what they're capable of. My second lvl 80 was in fact an elementalist. I also know perfectly well what THEY are capable of.
Both are deadly in their own way. And D/D zerk elementalist can kill just as quick as a 100derps warrior, and if the player is good, at considerably lower risk of dying.
I've played since beta. Over 1600 hours, actually.. Warriors are the easiest to play, but they're also the most limited. And they're really not overpowered. At the risk of sounding elitist, if you really think that, then I guess you're lacking experience in the game.
The combat is actually pretty complex, but relies on timing, resource usage and combinations rather than having many buttons.
An anecdote:
Around last christmas, I was experimenting a bit with classes, and at the moment levelling a thief. I was level 10 on it, and was in a level 11 area, and pretty much still learning the class.
At that time, there were many presents around on the map that you could open, which contained some stuff, and some pretty tough enemies. I was watching a warrior and a guardian open one of them, spawning 5 Plush Griffons. I watched them trying to fight the griffons, failing miserably, and tried to run away at around 10-15% health.
I decided to help. Ran in, dropped Caltrops, and managed to get four of them after me. I had double dagger as weapons, and used caltrops' slow to gather them in one group, then used Death Blossom to deal damage and bleed to all four while avoiding damage myself, and then disengaging, also using Dancing Dagger for extra damage and control.
All four griffons died before the two other players managed to kill the one last mob following them. And I had around 70% HP left after the fight.
I didn't tell that story to brag how good I am, I am telling it because it's a really good example of the difference between a player who knows the game and the combat system, and someone who don't.

Re:I guess I'll see
I don't play GW2 (sure seems more like WoW[1] than GW1, so not going to bother at least for now), but from what I see the GW2 players can't even agree whether there's inflation or deflation.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/76265-inflation-out-of-hand-or-alright-for-now/
https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/archive/jubilee/Do-you-notice-inflationAs for massive grind, if you want to max level and get the best gear etc ASAP, I can see how you'd have to grind in GW2 (and I don't like games like that). But given your complaint about grinding in GW1, maybe your playing style also tends too much towards grinding? If you really do enjoy blowing your way through to the end game and getting all the "best stuff" then do so by all means (some really do- even compete to be the first to hit max etc), but you don't seem to find that fun. So in GW2 is it possible to relax and play through the content without grinding? In GW1 it was possible. OK GW Prophecies was more grindy, but Factions was almost "sneeze and gain a level"
;)...[1] For example: gear makes a significant difference and so grinding for gear makes a significant difference in how well you do. Not merely how stylish you look while you are kicking ass or getting your ass kicked
;). -
Re:I guess I'll see
GW2 doesn't really do the whole "grind" thing - at least not with anything you actually have to do to advance.
Hell, just hop in WvW and murder people. You can level up that way.
murdering people is such a grind : (

Re:not where from, where to?
You'd like Guild Wars 2.
PvP brings everyone up to top level, and gear plays almost no part. It's all player skill and teamwork. There is a small effect, in that you may not have earned all your skill options yet, but what you can get early is not bad.
When I first dove in, I was a level 5 and was passably competent. I died a lot, but I got some kills and helped hold some strategic.

Re:Perspective...
Technically the Blizzard North developers went to Flagship Studios and then to Runic Games (makers of Torchlight) and while Torchlight 1 & 2 copies some of the D2 mechanics IMHO PoE embodies the spirit of Diablo 2 far, far, more then any other ARPG.
i.e. There is NO gold in PoE. It uses a 100% barter multi-tiered currency system. It really is the next gen of in-game economies.
Now if we could only get the Guild Wars 2 Dynamic Events into PoE

Re:They could have at least handed it off to someb
> NCSoft could rationalize that they just needed to find the right subject, rather than a different playstyle, to make an MMO popular in the Western market.
I disagree. Part of the problem is that NCSoft has traditionally had shitty UI design and implementation along with some bone-headed game design principles. (i.e. The retarded Shaman's Rookery jumping puzzle in Guild Wars 2 http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shamans_Rookery )
I've been playing Guild Wars 2 for the last few weeks and the UI is such an ass-step backwards compared to other MMOs that the game is exceedingly frustrating because of it. They haven't learned that the bar has been significantly raised and they are being left behind. This is one of the _few_ things WoW did _right_.
There are 3 hurdles MMOs need to overcome:
* Tech
* Good Game Design & Positive User Experience
* UIAlmost everyone understands how to implement the tech now-a-days so that is (usually) a non-issue.
I believe User Interface plays a larger part in the success of a MMO then people give it credit for. Why? Because it is THE _primary_ interface with how one interacts with the game. If you are constantly fighting the game's UI are you really going to "put up with it in the hopes that the game is fun?" The answer is usually no. EVE Online suffers from this -- the game is fun -- BUT the learning curve is a fucking vertical cliff. Most people are not prepared to "learning a 2nd job" just to play the game to RELAX.
Good Game Design is not enough these days when there are other games that involved less grinding, and are more fun. GW2 is 50/50 hit/miss.
Here are some of the few things GW2 did RIGHT:
+ Shared XP and instanced-resources. No longer do you have to worry about somebody ninja-killing or ninja-looting. This encourages people to work together and help each other out -- as there is no penalty for doing so. I wish every MMO did this.
+ Another positive thing GW2 nailed was dynamic world events. Again, I wish every MMO did this.
+ No monthly fee! There is no pressure to "log on" this month because you are being nickled and dimed. You play whenever you want, anytime.
+ Fast patching system.
Example of Negative User Experiences:
- MMOs suck because someone else ninja'd your name. At least in WoW you can use European glyphs with diacritics but in GW2 you are limited to ASCII characters. Even with being allowed to select a "first last" name option, MMO's are not interested in _streamlining_ what _players_ want -- the ability to identify with their characters - both during character creation and afterwards. We STILL are forced to play the idiotic "I registered my favorite nick name before you did!" in MMOs.
On the plus side, part of the charm of CoH was that players became deeply attached to characters that they could customize and look unique. GW2 is partially pushing the boundary here by giving people _some_ choices in looking unique with the (limited) dye'd colors more so then other MMOs.
- Your level is automatically downgraded per region if you are too high. This is one of those "Sounds good on paper, but shitty in practice" things. If a player is struggling to finish off a region they do not have the option of leveling up and coming back to it due to the idiotic "automatic level downgrade". ArenaNet's excuse is "We have no end game -- the whole game is challenging." I understand that logic but sadly GW2 becomes one boring grind-fest because of it.
- One example out of thousands of shitty UI in GW2. Whenever you play a different character it is listed first and all your characters are shuffled around. Diablo 3 did the same thing and everyone bitched at Blizzard to fix it. Which they did. How many YEARS have MMOs had to solve this -exact- problem and the dev's STILL don't "get it" with the common UI problems??
It is the _million_ little things of User Interface and User Experience

Re:Refreshing
I've played Guild Wars on-and-off since launch day. I can understand where the impression that it has been "pushed back" came from, but I don't think its 100% fair. ArenaNet had a problem after the launch of Nightfall (the third campaign): they wanted to do some things that weren't possible in the current engine like persistent zones, but they had kind-of promised new campaigns to the fans. So they decided to stop making new campaigns for GW1 and released the last major new content with Eye of the North (smaller 4th campaign/expansion) back in 2007. At the same time, they announced GW2 at least partially so that fans would know why there wasn't anything new coming (there were also some tie-ins with EotN).
The problem they have now is that it's been four years since the announcement of GW2. The announcement happened very early on in the design stages, so they didn't have very much to show for it besides a title and some vague concepts. They've had to spend the last several years building their new game, and it feels like they've been going very slow or pushing it back because of how long it's been since the announcement. For most games of this size, the announcement would have happened probably mid last year, which is when they did finally start putting up a lot of content about GW2 and their design goals on their site.
The Eurogamer article does a pretty good job hitting the high-points of most of it, but the articles they've posted on their site go into a lot more detail, and are a pretty interesting read (link). I hope they manage to pull off most of the stuff they're talking about, because it sounds like an amazing game. -
Re:Damn!
I'd prefer a mmorpg with a truly dynamic world, not a circus fair ride.
Sounds like GW2 is exactly what you want. While I agree that the original Guild Wars series was highly linear in terms of plot, Guild Wars 2 includes lots of dynamic events which have a tangible impact on the world you experience. Have a look at this description of dynamic events for more detail.
-
Then why not Guild Wars?
Guild Wars gives all those benefits, with no monthly fees.
And Guild Wars 2 is just around the corner, and promises to be superior to WoW in basically every respect.
-
Re:I blame World of Warcraft.
Unless the Old Republic videos are vastly misleading, it's just going to be a bog-standard WoW-format MMO with a Star Wars skin. You want an RPG with lots of players? Go look at Guild Wars 2, particularly this part of it.

Re:$50 + Pay 2 Play = No thanks!
The sad part is that NCSoft will likely abandon the incredible F2P Atlantica Online in favor of Aion.
Yes, I'm sure they're abandoning all their free to play MMOs once Aion is out.
