jPlayer supports HTML5 and fallsback to Flash
I really mean it, jPlayer supports HTML5 and fallsback gracefully to Flash if HTML5 support does not work. And it is very coder friendly, you can create your own seekable player on top of it using the jPlayer calls very easily.

plug for a simple game
I used to like squigs which was similar(ish) and came on a coverdisk of an amiga mag
... er, this was some years ago.
anyway if you think thats simple try this ...
(flash game)
I really like it, but then I'm biased. Yes this is a shameless plug. -
it's not just him ...Super Monkey Ball (by Sega?) is a great example of this type of game.
Call me a philistine but I like it loads better than Pikmin. Pikmin is far too hard ;)

Re:Isn't a sign of the times...
I would say if it works don't mock it. Just suppose there was a leader in a country somewhere that controlled 95% of the media. You create a groovey little game slagging him off put in on the net, it becomes virally successful people get drawn to a site where you can openly put your opinion forward.
Isn't that a good thing?

Re:Benefits of Flash.
Flash is total garbage.
Your website actually does a rather good job of demonstrating this fact
Is there any point to this game at all? In what way is it adding to the value of your website?

Channel 4 in Italy?
I was working in Italy for 6 months this year and I really missed my Channel 4, (if I could only choose one channel that would be it). Does anybody know if it's possible to get Channel 4 in Italy (I'm willing to pay!)?

Kylix ?I would implement a web-based solution if possible. But if you're into client-side code why not use Kylix, I know it's based on Object Pascal but that's not neccessarily a bad thing!(Version 2 is out now I believe.)
"Combine Kylix with Borland Delphi 6,(TM) to develop cross-platform Linux/Windows applications." - Borland.

Why not .....

Re:Mozzilla may soon surpass Microsoft...
It may be just me or my setup but I've noticed at least one massive bug in IE6 - intermitently - it really screws up when trying to handle animated gifs. The gifs go too fast and flicker and the screen flashes when rolling over rollover images. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm running it on NT 4 with sp 6 installed. I've not got round to installing it on another system so I may just have a weird setup.

ahh ... the simple ones are the best!I love those old simple games, especially the two player ones. I remember writing a simple 'tron-cycle-type-game' for the Amiga while I was at college, it kept me and my flatmates amused for hours. Much more fun than Lemmings or whatever was about at the time, mainly because you were competing directly with another person and what's more he was in the same room, in fact on the same keyboard, so you got the added motivation of hearing him curse you when you kicked his arse!

..and the rest of the world?
What about the rest of the world, Europe for example? Why can't these things happen globally? Are we really that different? It's bad enough having to wait an extra 6 months for your PS2 and now this. shoot some worms!

What is it with Britain ?
"...but somehow, being a British company, managed to cock it up. Bloody typical." Is this generally thought to be a truism or just another myth? Why is it that the UK has a great reputation for innovating yet such a poor one for making any money at it?

Re:Two links, and random comments...
It's no surprise to me that electrical/mechanical engineers prefered meccano, after all they have to deal with 'real world' scenarios, where the laws of physics are constantly being dealt with. Software engineers on the other hand are concerned with the more abstract discipline of writing code and are relatively unaffected by any 'real world' constraints such as gravity and friction. The most important lesson I think I learned from lego was that I could create things by being good with my mind rather than with my hands, which I'm still doing today. If it wasn't for computers or lego I would have given up on the idea of being an 'engineer' years ago. Shoot some worms!
