Re:Is the AI any better?
This gallery have some examples of TTD AI stupidity.
Have a explanation why the orginal AI is poor, note that the "glitches, cheats and bugs" mentioned in the FAQ have been fixed in openTTD since a long time ago.

Re:The contest sponsor has plenty of MS cash
You cannot say that the club is unbiased - but you do not know that the club is biased either. This is not because it straddles some ambiguous nether-region. It is because you know nothing of the club beyond what you have heard or read. (Come visit sometime, the pizza is for non-members too!)
At the foundation of the club is a set of values that supercedes any corporate affiliation. At the core is the desire to learn about technologies that we are not exposed to in course material, yet may encounter in the business world.
Since Ohio State students are likely to graduate without meaningful technical exposure to Microsoft products, this is often the logical choice when looking for a solution to explore. Undoubtedly we can fall back on the assumption that if we choose a Microsoft solution it will be provided to us free of charge, but this does not drive our selection process as much as an outsider might imagine.
In a recent discussion on source control there were over 60 discussion posts over the course of two days - largely debating the merits of CVS vs. VSS. Ultimately we elected to set them both up and conduct an analytical study of the merits of each. If anything, as with society at large, I've noticed a subtle anti-MS bias among club members.
Later in your post you complain about a professor of yours whom you feel is being tempted by the beast.
You then comment on his apparently poor administration skills (only negligent admins were hit by the SQL worm). Maybe he's still learning?
You also use the term "allegedly" to describe your lack of knowledge regarding the financing behind the lab in question. I suspect that in your unbiased comments regarding the many Unix, Solaris and Mac labs in campus, you replace "allegedly" with "generously" when describing how financing for these labs were secured?
Perplexed at how an instructor might achieve impartiality given all of this bribery, you retreat to the rationalization that Java (with an 7 year head-start) development outpaces development in (1 year old)
.NET. You sound like a boastful mother bragging that her son can read to the parent of an infant who still needs his diapers changed! My point is that for someone who seems to continually lace his/her prose with subtle inferences to your distaste for MS, you're not a poster child for objectivity.

This is the real story!Code Taco Emergency!
Best quotes: HUMORIX WORLD HEADQUARTERS -- Two Humorix unpaid interns were injured earlier today as the result of mass panic induced by an unexpected attack of the dreaded Slashdot Effect.
The two injured interns are actually specially bred chickens trained to peck the reboot button on our two Windows PCs when the screen turns blue
... and .... Preliminary calculations show that the damage caused by the Great Slashdot Effect Attack of November 2002 will likely total several dozen dollars. :) -
talking about windows and Linux
RALEIGH-DURHAM, NC -- HypeNewsWire -- Red Hat, the producer of the most popular Linux distribution with over 25 million estimated users, is proud to announce the availability of Red Hat Linux 10.0. The latest version contains the new Linux 6.2 kernel, the Z Window System 2.0, full support for legacy Windows 3.x/9x/200x/NT software apps, and more. Copies of Red Hat Linux 10.0 will be available in stores on CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or GNUDE (GNU Digital Encoding) disks within the next week.
Compaq, Dell, Gateway, and several other large computer manufacturers have announced that they will offer computer systems with Red Hat 10.0 pre-installed. "We can sell systems with Red Hat pre-installed for considerably less than systems with Microsoft ActiveWindows 2001. Overall, Red Hat Linux's superior quality, low price, and modest system requirements puts Windows to shame," one Dell spokesperson said at last week's LinDex convention.

also on that site...linux for your toilet
Bob Hutzfield has put a dozen copies of "Red Hat Linux 10.0" up for auction at eBay.com. He claims that his toilet is the portal to a "temporal vortex singularity" and that the toilet periodically spits out items from the future. Last week, a package containing twelve Red Hat Linux 10.0 shrink-wrapped boxes materialized at the toilet vortex. Hutzfield is now offering them at auction with a minimum bid of US$1000.
The following press release was taken from the eBay auction page. Hutzfield claims that he found this press release inside the package that emerged from his toilet vortex.

Slashdot Nullifies Differences Between News, Hoax
As stated in some other thread as well, read the first 2 lines of the atleast : "Fake News written by James Baughn". And still, if you wish to speculate on the matter. Speculate on whether you are still capable of choosing your favorite
/bin/l33t if you are capable of speculating on this speculative hoax? -

Just stay away!
We all know what happens when Microsoft and Free Software mix!
Would somebody please think of the children? -
Wow. Talk about rewriting history.
If you look back, I think you'll see that RMS concieved the copyleft because a number of projects he was working on suddenly went commercial, leaving his out of the loop and separated from the hard work he'd been putting in.
Interesting, I've never heard this version of events before.
I thought RMS started Free Software after the issue with the printer driver.

The boycott starts here
If you want to stop giving any penny to micro$oft before they take over the internet, take a look at all the companies you can boycott.
Some examples are NCompass, Commerce one, Audible, Corel, LinkExchange, Hitachi, Firefly, Dreamworks, Hotmail, WebTV, Realnames, Verisign, CompUSA, Keen, Radioshack, Expedia, Akamaï, Concentric, WebMD, Nextel, Portugal Telecom, Qwest, Apple, RealNetworks, Comcast, NBC, UUNET.
I also suggest that you read the 12 steps to stop using M$. Very thorough, a MUST. -

There already is a Wireless Carnivore!
The FBI has already got a Wireless Carnivore. It only effects CPIP right now, but it's a disturbing start.

Get Spam banned in 8 easy steps.
My proposal is as follows:
1: Get two boxes running something that can handle a HUGE load, such as FreeBSD or Linux.
2: Put them in California. Get an autoresponder going on both of them.
3: Have one forward all Spam collected in a month to the other one. It auto responds to the one that sent the mail.
4: The other box auto responds.
5: Repeat 3-4 until California is blacked out.
6: Blame it on Spam.
7: Repeat when California is back up.
8: Keep doing this until Spam is banned.Or to just plain get email banned try Humorix's Soultion.

my 2 cents
personally, i dont mind turing my lights on and off, changing the thermostat or anything like that.. i have a few computers in my apartment and i consider myself as part of The Socioeconomic Group Formerly Known As "Geeks".. but sometimes these overly wired homes are nothing more than something to look at on
/. and say "oh, thats cool.." its gets to be too impersonal after a while. if you are doing this as part of a project i would suggest to make all the "intelligent" features as unobtrusive as possible.. if you know they are there its too much.. needing a remote control to turn on your light or change the heat is nifty, but but i dont think it will replace the switch or the dial.. the great thing about switches is that when you get home at 3am drunk and tired and the lights are off, you can still find your light switch.. but good luck digging through the couch in the dark so you can turn on a light... -
This posting....
...contains no product placements. However,it DOES contain website placements!hahaha!
Visit the UPGR
Laugh at Humorix
Buy cool Linux stuff at Linux Mall
Get free software at FreshMeat
And of course,a reciprocal link!
I'd like to see any of the major TV networks work that many open-source website placements into one paragraph. Then again,it's probably already happened.

I wanted to have a monopoly
With Segfault, User Friendly, and BeDope out of commission, I was hoping that Humorix would have a monopoly on the low-budget, not-all-that-funny Linux humor market. But now that Slashdot has become "Humor For Nerds. Stuff That's Funny", my dreams of world domination have been shattered. D'oh!

Some evidence against Microsoft being behind this
Although the death star reference may make it seem like Microsoft, I have yet to receive any trouble from them over kmfms.com. I've been unable to get into Segfault to try and figure out exactly what they could have said to miff MS off, but I doubt they would target parodies before going after places like yamoo or the excellent CPT's Microsoft Antitrust Page which are far more direct in their criticism.
