Both have the same goal. One made me interested. The other was like watching a hyped up cheerleader. I had a pretty good idea what my science classes would be like from Mr Wizard. If I got my impression from Mr. Nye I would have been wildly disappointed and thought science is boring and stuffy. Probably why I like watching NurdRage (well that and I dont want to mess with acids).

Pseudoscience abounds
Not only that p hacking is huge in some fields. To be considered 'good science' someone needs to replicate what you did. But getting published is seems to be enough. We get silly things like 'the science is settled' when it has not been verified. Even verification/replication is not enough. We need to narrow in on things and make them better. Reiterate and reverify over and over even the mundane things. Sometimes people can look at something we have done for years and go 'hm thats weird why...' and either they learn something or we all do.

Interstellar and Gravity are some of the most insulting things I've ever seen.

This is about how mad I get when a movie takes place in Las Vegas, and someone is driving down the strip Northbound past The Bellagio, and in the next cut they're driving Southbound past The Stratosphere.

It's just a movie. Chill. No one ever claimed either of those movies was 100% scientifically accurate, and plot rules all when it comes to fiction. If you need to (and it sounds like you really really need to), just pretend that all movies (not just sci-fi) take place in a parallel universe where everything works differently (like this guy ever being able to date this gal).

Amen. Just as bad as that school that went into lockdown, called 911, and had the dude wearing the Stormtrooper costume arrested, because he walked past the school carrying an E-11 blaster (Slashdot article).

Seriously... it was a FUCKING COSTUME. Anyone with any common sense at all would have recognized it as such. And besides, if anyone ever watched Star Wars, they'd know that Stormtroopers can't hit anything... the safest place to stand is directly in front of them.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was surprisingly good I thought.

They don't have to suck. Dead Gentlemen Productions and Zombie Orpheus made the Gamers series where the tabletop RPG fused with the action in the game. Sure, they are cheap indie productions, poking good hearted fun at ourselves, and unlikely to become smash its, but ... they are quite a lot of fun. If you are into foreign movies, Astrópía is pretty good, and could, feasibly be interesting to a wider audience.

Depends on what you actually mean. If by making a D&D movie, you mean an interactive experience with friends, you are right. Movies are not interactive.

If you mean making a movie that captures how you and your friends act when playing, Zombie Orpheus and Dead Gentlemen Productions have made a number of awesome comedies in the Gamers series.

If you mean making a movie that features a party of adventurers having adventures ... there are a lot of those. Most Hollywood movies of that type follow the hero and his sidekicks (Lord of the Rings being one exception), but the indie scene is a lot more interesting. Some of them are actually okay. In the comedy arena, JourneyQuest is quite a lot of fun. Mythica is more serious, but definitely also worth watching.

Can Hollywood make a good D&D movie? Can TSR or Wizards of the Coast? Going by past experiences, the answer is no. On the other hand ... the new Captain America movies are quite good, whereas the old ones from the 80s were utter crap, so maybe?

Watch both again. You'll find yourself fast-forwarding quite a lot in BSG and paying more attention to the story in Caprica.

* Continuum (2012) - Good; Struggles to be great. Worth watching simply because it is far better then the rest of the junk out there currently. Status: Ending this year w/ Season 4.
* Extant (2014) - Complete and utter shite and I even *like* Halle Berry (well, I did, before her boob job) Do we get an endurance badge for watching it? SO much potential and it is completely squandered time and time again.
* Futurama (1999) - EXCELLENT, Smithers. Oh wait, wrong character ;-) TONS of great science jokes.
* Forever (2014) - Loved it! (technically NOT sci-fi) Status: Cancelled :-( Bloody suits.
* Lost (2004) - Great, but WAY over-rated; worth watching. Ending sucked.
* Proof (2015) - Meh. (NOT sci-fi.) Had some funny moments, but most of the time had more fun watching paint dry at times. Never pursues the *interesting* data! WTF. Also, absolutely no mention of actual facts such as: Lucid Dreaming, Out-of-Body, Lazarus Syndrome, etc. Complete disappointment. At least Jennifer Beals is beautiful to watch.
* Terra Nova (2011) - Started to like it by the end of S1; had potential. Great cliffhanger at end S1! Status: Cancelled. Forever in limbo :-( Blood suits.
* The Tomorrow People (2013) - Meh. Status: Cancelled.
* True Blood (2008) - First few seasons were good. Jumped the shark with Lilith. Ending sucked.
* Wayward Pines (2015) - Meh, disappointing. Loved the actors. Plot was OK but s-l-o-w. Ending sucked.
