I'm the only person I know whose favorite Alien is 3. Everybody else hates it for one reason or another. I think it's the best one.

It's not my favorite one, that's still the original Alien. But I never understood why people prefer Aliens over Alien 3. Aliens is basically one of the many action movie of its decade, think "Rambo in space" - and as such very much exchangable.

Alien 3 OTOH, reminded me very much of The name of the rose (setting-wise). A movie (and book), I very much enjoyed. It brought back the dark feeling and creepy atmosphere, which I missed in Aliens.

Well, yes. Since I don't think we have yet devised the destructive potential of a Dark Star-type planet buster bomb, and since the ecosystem even around Chernobyl has shown to be remarkable persistent, I rather doubt that human beings have the capability to "destroy" the earth yet. We may make a bit of a mess of it, but life tends to be remarkably resilient. So, yes, this whole debate is about whether or not we can affect the earth's climate to an extent that we no longer can survive here. That's not exactly news, so I don't really understand what point you are trying to make here.

GNAA Releases Groundbreaking New Study on Autism

London, England - GNAA today released a groundbreaking new study by its very own Rucas. In it, Professor Rucas concluded that autistic creatures, and by extension, freenode users, could be replaced with under 100 lines of valid perl codetm and exactly 20 lines of text.

The GNAA study proved controversial, because it operated under the assumption that autism did, in fact, exist.

Prof. Rucas writes: "Our hypothesis was quite simple - through casual observation of autism sufferers on freenode, the premier IRC network for Asperger's syndrome and Autism-spectrum discussion, several GNAA researchers noted that the lines chatted by any one individual were repetitive in nature, and could likely be successfully emulated."

We quickly wrote a simple perl script to connect to freenode hourly, join a channel with at least 100 chatters, and, depending on how active the channel was, randomly reply to people with a randomly-selected phrase from an input file. We took the data gathered over several months and after averaging the numbers we gathered, we believe our results to be quite conclusive."

Prof. Rucas continued: "Keeping in mind that there was no downtime where the bot would stop chatting, we are confident that if such a delay were introduced to emulate a person being away from their computer, a typical freenode chatter could be indistinguishably replaced with under 100 lines of perl code and 20 lines of text."

GNAA plans to study whether or not autistic creatures are able to solve CAPTCHA in the near future. It is hypothesized that they cannot, as they are not human.

Personal morality and "softness" would be A DETERRENT for an untrained, unconditioned civilian which would make them hesitate when they should act.
They would be extremely unfit for the role of "killers" - which is what they would have to be.
You can paint it any way you want. Personal defense, retaliation, reciprocity... the fact is they would have to kill other people.
Which many of them would either not be able to do, or would not be able to "handle" later.

And there is no "handling" of continuously having to be on the edge for extended periods of time.
You don't just "turn off" all that anxiety and adrenalin.
Not without either prior training and conditioning, heavy use of drugs or therapy.
Civilian employees of private companies lack the first, are forbidden the second and the third... well... they might get it should one of them come home and machine-gun the office to settle some dispute.

There is a reason why every single army in the world uses psychological tests in their recruiting process.

GSAA Confirms Link Between Wal-Mart and The Bilderberg Group

The GSAA research division has proved a direct link between the Bilderberg Group and Wal-Mart. This link was confirmed last Saturday night when an attempt to save black shoppers from a terrorist threat was lambasted by Wal-Mart, an attack which was planned by Wal-Mart themselves.

I thought Moon was just about the most convincing sci-fi movie since 2001 - taking one simple premise that's not particularly far-fetched at all, and exploring it to its full conclusion, is what made the classic era of British sci-fi so...er...classic.

And of course Contact had to be there - after all, it was written by the same chap who co-designed the Pioneer Plaque...

I'm not talking about individuals, but rather groups of people (queue Agent K quote).

Groups are more likely to be influenced by incentives (bad or good) than individuals. For example, I didn't start walking and riding the bus because I wanted future generations to be better off, I did it because I moved to the city and it's cheaper and easier. Many people living around me have been riding busses all their lives, even when they lived in the burbs. Most people in the US make the opposite call for the same reason I did.

What if all I care about with regard to money is having enough to live comfortably?

There are billions of people on Earth and they all have to figure out what to do every day. Given the vast amount of information contained in the market, better allocation of resources will generally occur when the market is influenced by what people really want (pay for) instead of what they say they want (free X). (note: as awesome as single payer healthcare may be, it isn't free)

You as an individual can make a choice to work part time, or work as a volunteer, or any number of different worthy goals. Non-profit companies are able to do great things (at least in the eyes of the people funding them), but given that they aren't working with a profit motive they cannot figure out how many widgets need to be made.
