Storage advancements in the kernel?
Now that Ceph is gathering momentum since having been included in the mainline kernel, what other storage (or low level) advancements do you see on the horizon?

Re:So...
First, you should link to PA's comic directly, or your commentary on the strip won't make sense in a couple days. Second, black and white is not necessarily bad (Megatokyo is mostly in black and white). The problem with Userfriendly's art is not so much that it's not in color as that it's drawn with all of the skill of a three year old child. If the story was good or the humor funny, it could make up for the bad artwork. Sadly, neither of those are the case.
For the record, I just pulled a couple comics at random. As has already been mentioned, Diesel Sweeties is also good, as well as many others (ctrl+alt+del, Mac Hall when they update, Angst Technology, etc). All of these are better than UF, in story, art, and humor. If UF could pull even one of those out of its rear, it might be worth browsing once a month or so. Until then it's nothing more than a reason to laugh at people that think it's good.

Speaking of gaming webcomics.
I find Angst Technology much more geek friendly than Penny Arcade.

Re:Spoiler!
But do you think the majority of people here will have read the comic books? (Or watched the old TV show... or the old cartoon... or the old cartoon with his friends Iceman and Firestorm... or the new TV show... or the old movies...)
:)
And of course the modification of the old theme...

Paying for Flakiness?
I have a list of about 15 web comics that I read. I enjoy them all, to varying degrees.
One thing that sort of bothers me, though, is that the comics I read tend to produced by people who aren't doing them as a business but do them because they enjoy it. They'll also use it as a way to promote other work that they do (Graphics Artists, for example).
But, frankly, this can also mean that the work is flaky, late, etc. I've seen artists decide to take three month sabbaticals because they've decided that they're burned out. Sometimes they get too busy with other tasks--they don't make a living off the comic, so if something more important comes along, they do that.
I don't complain. After all, it's free and they do it out of the kindness of their heart. One of my favorites, InkTank (he has two comics, "Angst Technology" and "Weak-end Warriors") is currently on an extended hiatus. Now, that's fine and dandy, but I'd be a little annoyed if I paid money and he suddenly decided to take a break. Where's my refund? Of course, do I want to read "corporate" comics--someone who does it to put food on his table? Like CDs, do I have to pay for two weeks of crap just for the one entertaining idea?
Actually, I like the Merchandising angle. I have a couple of Ozy and Millie T-Shirts. I try to buy stuff from my favorite sites in order to support their art.
Anyway, here's my obligatory list of some favorites:
Doctor Fun
General Protection Fault
Something Positive

Re:didn't you hear?
IIRC, the reason Futurama gave was that they had gotten tired of all the stupid jokes. Such as the one early on in Angst Technology where Dante had named the servers after the planets of the solar system: "I think Uranus is unstable"....... What a lame excuse for writing that lame joke, isn't it?

My daily sites
When i wake up in the morning, I crack open the daily newspapaper and.... wait that's not true. Lets start again. When I wake up in the morning I turn on my computer, and check out... webcomics.
Angst Technology, Ctrl Alt Del, Dilbert, Errant Story, Force Monkeys, Fox Trot, goats, Life of Riley, Mac Hall, Megatokyo, Misfire, Penny Arcade!, Sinfest, Something Positive, and finally Wendy.
Then, after my daily webcomic barage (not to say that these all update on a daily basis. Some are good [ like ctrl alt del, and penny arcade ] and update regularly. others... well...) I frequent other sites, for information.
Slashdot of course (not linking it...)
Gamespot
Games workshop,
and
Unconventional Conformity.
Other than that, I have a few sites i goto every so often. Or ones which i check throughout the day. But they become less important than the comics.

mmm...i like webcomicsGenerally, I tend to start my day with Webcomics:
- Machall - best..webcomic...ever (updates: "tues, thurs, sat" but more like when he gets around to it)
- Penny Arcade - a very popular, and very funny gaming comic (M W F)
- Megatokyo - a well drawn comic with a strong story mangaish (M W F)
- Ctrl-Alt-Del - cut and paste, but always funny (Daily)
- Something Positive - kinda cut and paste, but often very funny (daily)
- Real Life - cut and paste, but still a pretty funny gaming comic (mostly daily)
- Calvin and Hobbes - rereleasing C+H online, 10 years delayed...my personal fav (daily)
- Errant Story - a well drawn, story based modernish fantasy comic (updates every other day or so)
- Angst Technology - a game software firm and their antics (updates almost daily)
Then (if there's still time before class, if not just after) I generally see whats up on- (as if you need the link)Slashdot
- CBC News Canadian news from the CBC
- Debian Planet good debian news
- Footnotes GNOME news
- Ars Technica another tech site, often has interesting projects too...
- Anime News Network exactly what the name implies.
- Unconventional Conformity a blog.
- The Weather Network - for my local weather
And well, thats about it. That I check frequently at least. I do like webcomics and strongly suggest that you check out Machall Megatokyo and Errant Story if you don't already though! And then there's also everything2 but its not news and I can't check it daily (or else I would do nothing all day but read!) its too good at just drawing you in. And the anime turnpike to go browsing through Anime fansites...

ah HA!

Re:Noooooo.....
I read Angst Technology every day, in fact, when I started reading it I spent the good part of 3 hours reading all the strips from when it started.
No matter which way you look at this cartoon it is damn funny. Most people in the IT industry will get the jokes. As far as reusing whole cells is concerned I don't think it happens. He may reuse drawings of individual characters but I have not noticed and has not detracted from how good the strip is.
I find it just as funny as User Friendly but with better cartooning. -

Re:On drawing women...I'd love to know what illiad and other "known" artist/toonists/etc. think about drawing women... in specific, how to deal with the women around them who feel the need to comment and critique they way you draw the female figure (in all it's forms, of course... this was added to destroy the inevitable "female figure? there's not just one!" replies).
Heck, maybe it's just bad memories of 6th grad art class when you are forced to draw sketches of your classmates, and you felt obligated to draw in a turtleneck sweater and jacket just so you could avoid the topic of their breasts altogether. However, I imagine that most comic artists and 3d-modelers for modern video games have to put up with a fair ammount of ribbing about how large or small they create figures for their characters.
Heh... There's an answer for that, too. (Thanks Barry!) Angst Technologies

UF used to be funny
(Disclaimer, I've been clean for about a year or two now)
UF used to be part of my daily Webcomic reading habit, I remember spending close to an entire day reading the archives when I first read it. Then, about a year or two ago, it just stopped being funny. The storylines really just started getting into childish "Windows Sucks! Ha!". Honestly, I don't see how people can still read it.
I have the first book, because there are some good storylines from the first few years, but after that it really started to go downhill. Now I read Sluggy Freelance and I feel much cleaner.
For those who like Computer Comics I recomend Angst Technology and (whenever Jeff gets out of his "I want to be a /real/ artist and have a story arc" phase and begins to produce teh funny again) GPF Comics -
Almost as cool as...

As for sending quick messages to co-workers, does your company not have an internal phone system?

Angst Technology also did a comic on it that was pretty good.

I can't believe not one person mentioned PvP. Also, Angst Technology and Dork Tower are worth reading on occasion.
And kudos to the people at NetComics (mentioned a little higher up), found this prog a few weeks ago, very nice...
