Leo's new Mustang
Leo Laporte (host of This Week in Tech) recently bought a 2010 SYNC-equipped Mustang, and seems to like it a lot. (Of course, Ford is an advertiser, but otoh he bought the Mustang with his own money.) http://leoville.com/to-the-twitmobile

There's only one choice
There's only one clear choice for such a post: Leo Laporte!

Leo Laporte?
Anyone else think this guy looks like Leo Laporte? -
But...
But where is Leo Laporte?

Brother Leo Said It Best
Leo Laporte mentioned recently on the excellent podcast TWIT (This Week In Tech) in extended discussion with his old chronies from when TechTV's ScreenSavers was in its hayday (in otherwords before G4 TV bought it, moved it from the Bay area, replaced everyone who wasn't telegenic with pretty faces staring stiff and stupid into the camera - in short made it suck donkey ass) observed that Blizzzard's World of Warcraft redered one "Only _marginally_ functional as an adult"
A fact to which my level 31 Mage can readily attest. Apparently Leo has a level *blah* Paladin in that game.
Also, of note in that same podcast it was mentioned that there are "Latin American sweatshops" where US citizens pay those less of the less fortunate nations to spend the hours on end it takes to "level up" their character so that when they log in "voila"! They can stomp around the land of Azeroth as a Level 60 fill in the blank. Now, I may be an addict, but where the hell is the fun in that? Also, as in other games is the amazing fact that people are selling characters, equipment and "gold" for umtpeen _hundreds_ to a _thousand_ or more real US 'Mercian DOLLARS!

Blogging and Searching
Nearly 50% of the blogs in existence are not interesting for an overwhelming majority of people is what i read from this. Thats not to say that all the non-personal blogs aren't just as bad. As Leo Laporte talked about on TWiT this week, Blogging is quickly becoming a serious problem with Google, and all the other search engines. Search just about any news topic, and you might find yourself with a blog talking about it, the source of material from said blog is another blog, and the chain will continue until you get to one of a few websites. I think that Google might be going in the right direction with their blog search, if they can use it to eliminate all blogging sites from searches which do not wish to return results from blogs. This must happen for search engines to be as easy and timeless as they have been in the past unless the novelty of blogging wears off, but who knows when that will happen.

Re:What an ass
Leo has been hosting call for help Radio and Television shows for almost 10 years. He's written a number of computer books. I respect his opinion more than a slashdot troll.
I was never a big fan of his Call for Help show on TechTV but when I did watch he seemed to be very bright. He answered Linux, Windows, and Apple questions. Why the hate?
He seems to be a big proponent of Open Source. His site is proudly release under the Creative Commons License. He recomends a number of open source projects on his shows. -
Screensavers podcast
Fans of the old TechTV show "The ScreenSavers" might want to check out Leo Laporte's podcasts. He makes his radio show available. He has also gotten together with some people from the old show and they do a podcast called This Week in Tech.

Re:Can't get enough of those catch-phrases
Ah Leo Laporte, where have you gone now that we need you more than ever?
There was an article posted here a week ago that answers that. Funny enough, he is now doing a podcast of Revenge of The Screen Savers with Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, and Robert Heron.
-
You don't need G4 to get The Screen Savers anymore
Don't forget that (as previously reported on
/.) The original Screen Savers bunch are doing weekly PodCasts now. If you were a fan of the original screen savers show, you're sure to enjoy the podcasts, which they call it TWIT: This Week in Tech.
http://twit.tv/ should be the permanent URL, but is still under construction as of this posting. http://leoville.com/blog/index.php/TLR/comments/th e-revenge-of-the-bleep/ works right now.

TSS was a goner long before G4
TSS was steadily going downhill long before G4 got ahold of them. Once Leo Lapporte it was all Patrick could do to stay afloat.
I no longer Tivo'd TSS or any TechTV show after that.
Summary.
TechTV was good.
G4 is horrible. -
Not to mention...Today G4/Tech Tv is having a "GTA: San Adreas Day"
This is the one day I am glad Leo is gone... if he weren't I'd be praying he takes a sick-day.
Where did I put that Bring Back Leo Petition...

Re:If Leo goes, I go.
Are you sure you are still watching it? Leo Laporte ended his gig as regular host in late March (as reported on Slashdot) and he left TechTV altogether in early April.
Are YOU still watching TechTV?
If you read Leo's CURRENT blog and the boards at leoville.com you'll read that he came to terms on a new contract with the interim TechTV and has been back on Call for Help for the last few weeks.
He's currently on a a road trip with others from TechTV.
You'll see Comcast filed termination notices for the entire TechTV staff but they can decide who will move later. -
Creative Commons Licenses
I just read an article about Creative Commons and how their license is all about creating this sort of thing. Their stuff seems to be the like GPL.
Anyway - found this site with lots of Creative Commons Licensed effects - most of which are professional quality as they were used on the author's radio program.

Re:Other Problems with Software UpdateThat's the last (and first) time I repeat anything Leo Laporte says without verifying if first. He offered this as a "Mac tip" on the Screen Savers back in May. I've never had a reason to check it out other than seeing that the files where there, and I didn't have "calculate all file sizes" on in the folder. That guy is just a moronic windbag.
