Re:Misleading summary
Yep. I got the same impression from that letter. The hyperbolic tone, the underlining of the part implying that they were collecting data, the use of words like "nefarious", and the statement that the only apparent purpose of the site was to collect info on Angle's supporters. It reeks of political theater.
"NEVER agree to an investigation of Scientology. ONLY agree to investigate the attackers... (1) Spot who is attacking us. (2) Start investigating them for FELONIES or worse, using our own professionals, not outside agencies. (3) Double curve our reply by saying we welcome an investigation of them. (4) Start feeding lurid, blood, sex, crime actual evidence on the attackers to the press... Don't ever submit tamely to an investigation of us. Make it rough on the attackers all the way... You can get "reasonable about it" and lose
... so BANISH all ideas that any fair hearing is intended and start our attack with their first breath. Never wait. Never talk about us -- only them. Use their blood, sex, crime to get headlines. Don't use us."
- excerpts from L. Ron Hubbard, policy letter dated Feb 25 1966, "Attacks on Scientology."Scilons spend a lot of time projecting - if they're accusing you of something wholly-unsubstantiated, it's because it's what they'd be doing in your position: setting up front groups and collecting information on their opponents. (And Ms. Angle has spent time with Scilon front groups as far back as 2002.)
Ms. Angle claims not to be a Scilon, but her campaign's actions are consistent with someone who is either working for, or being unknowingly manipulated by, the cult - right down to suing opponents for copyright violations.

Re:A point to note
And you've been misled, possibly by the propaganda scientology's propaganda arm was publishing about CAN. It's a practice L. Ron Hubbard called "dead agenting": making someone look so bad that no one would believe them, and it's what Mary Sue Hubbard and the leadership of the Guardian's Office went to jail for. (Among other acts, they faked bomb threats to discredit Paulette Cooper, the author of "The Scandal of Scientology".)
The fraud about CAN was persistent and nasty: they do the same thing now about psychologists, putting up leaflets and articles with their "Citizen's Commission of Human Rights" which is a scientology front, with vague claims about rapes and abuses without names, dates, or references. They attempt to scare people away from other resources that might question scientology or lead them in other directions with a long history of fraud. Hop over to www.xenu.net for some history of this: I couldn't possibly make it all up.
More to the point, CAN didn't do forcible deprogramming. They were convicted of conspiracy for referring Jason Scott's mother to a deprogrammer, Rick Ross, which both CAN and Rick Ross said they did not do. And it's even more fascinating: Jason Scott has changed attorneys from Kendrick Moxon, the high-level Scientologist and former Guardian's Office member, to Graham Berry, an attorney who's handled several large lawsuits against Scientology. (An announcement from the new law company is at http://www.lermanet.com/cos/can1.html) Mr. Scott believes that Kendrick Moxon didn't represent him properly in court, and that Moxon used the lawsuit instead as a weapon to attck CAN. (CAN went bankrupt: it is now owned and staffed by scientologists.)
I couldn't make this material up: it's just too convuluted for wards.

Re:Scientology is not a religion!
.... it's a tax evasion scheme.
If you had phrased that in the form of a statement backed by references, you might not have been modded flamebait:
"Didn't France convict the CoS of fraud? ( http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/10/27/france.scientology.fraud/index.html )"
or
"Arnaldo Lerma tells us that, 'when I asked why Scientology was now being called a church, I was told that it was for tax purposes.' ( http://www.lermanet.com/LRonHubbard2.htm )"
Something like that might have gotten the flamebait mods countered by positive ones... even if it (and this post) are likely somewhat off-topic for this particular article.

Re:Wake me up when...
At least it hasn't (yet) marched a bunch of its adherents into other countries, slaughtering "infidels", or set up any 800-year long inquisitions, or flown any aircraft into buildings, or burned any "witches." Though no doubt, give it time -- fanatics who base their thinking on superstitious bullshit almost always get around to such idiocy.
I'm not one to defend any religion, but Scientology's a lot worse today than any modern mainstream religion. If you need any proof, feel free to have a look here and here. No modern religion forces family members to give up their loved ones, picket outside the house of an 'unbeliever', or essentially, slavery.

Is HIstory Repeating Itself? (Scientology Raids)
There are a number of congruencies between this and the 1995 raids by Scientology...see Alt.Scientology.War cover story in Wired Magazine December 1995.
In 1995 an anonymous remailer in Amsterdam called anon.penit.fi run by Johan Helsingus was visited by police, who sought the the logs, using an excuse (cover story, shore story, suitable guise) that there was pornography involved...
Johan's remailer had been used backthen, for posting Scientology secret rubbish to the net...by a nickname "scamizdat" which turned out to be an ex-scientologist named Joe Harrington... who admitted this on his death bed.
I believe that complaints about the porno turned out have come from scientology...
I just got raided and sued by the scientologists for posting the XENU story, that you guys watched on South Park a while ago..
Wikileaks has been recently publishing thousands of pages of scientology secrets and internal memorandums...
Perhaps history is repeating itself?

Re:Mod parent down. Complete Scientology
A restraining order against an anonymous coward on Slashdot? Heh. Almost always, the people assigned to these sorts of duties are doing an "ammends project" to be allowed back "onlines" with the Cthurch of Scientology. They seem to get picked for the nasty jobs because (a) they're deniable as working for Scientology, (b) they're frequently judgment-proof because they have no assets or they're so dubious in sanity that no one would believe any liable and no damages could be proven. (There's also the danger that Scientology would help out in the legal fight in order to make it as time-consuming and expensive for a critic as possible. "The purpose of a lawsuit is to harass", in the words of L. Ron Hubbard.)
It's not worth my time because I can do more to help expose the organization in an hour of working on my media references page than wasting months in court.
It's no accident that he Godwin'ed himself immediately. When Scientology starts flinging poo at anyone who dares criticize the "most ethical organization on the planet" (their words), they always reach for Hitler and the Nazis first: Germany (which is why Cruise had recent troubles there), psychologists and psychiatrists, newspapers, journalists, Germany again (Bringing your kids along to a Nazi uniformed protest is weird by anyone's standard yes?), and probably a lot more. It's no wonder that some people occasionally fling it back, where it seems to sit better (and when the poo sits...):
*"[..] This is nothing compared to what will happen when we start taking SPs out of the government. They are rightly afraid. So don't you be. Tomorrow belongs to us. Inevitably there are bumps in the road."
L. Ron Hubbard -
Re:ElRon must be so upset...
Why? Hubbard was widely accused of similar stuff when he was alive. The whole Scientology/Dianetics thing has attracted the attention of The Law from day one. The only difference is that Hubbard would claim that he was being persecuted by the mental health community (who hated him for "curing" mental illness, depriving them of their livelihood), whereas Scientology is a "church" and thus can claim religious persecution.

The Church of Scientology would want this
The Church of Scientology would certainly want this. The Church already has the Scieno Sitter, "a content-control software package created by the Church of Scientology, which, when installed on a computer, blocks certain Web sites critical of Scientology from being viewed." Perhaps, as in the case of the Scieno Sitter, subscribers of MS COS television wouldn't even have to be told about the censorship program. After all, we wouldn't want people finding out about Xenu.

Re:Pitiful defense so far!
Henson never served the year he was sentenced to by the scientology-controlled kangaroo court in Riverside County, California. Scientology learned that Henson was now in Arizona, and it instructed the Riverside County county to seek extradition.
Extradition requires two extradition warrants, one signed by the governor of the extraditing state, and the other signed by the governor of the state where the fugitive is located. Both warrants have been signed, so Henson is being held without bail until he exhausts the very limited appeals available to him. Then, in all likelihood, he will be transfered to a jail in California, where scientology is eagerly waiting for the opportunity to spread false rumors that Henson is a child molester.
This law applies: http://www.azleg.state.az.us/FormatDocument.asp?in Doc=/ars/13/03841.htm&Title=13&DocType=ARS
You can learn far more about Henson's case than you ever wanted to know at http://www.operatingthetan.com/ If you just want the executive summary, you might prefer http://www.lermanet.com/books/henson.htm -
Re:How the hell...
The man to ask is Arnie Lerma. He runs one of the anti-scientology sites - http://www.lermanet.com
His writing is a bit haggard some time to time, but I guess that's a side-effect of eating nothing but rice and beans on the SeaOrg. I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up in this discussion. You can say his name 3 times in-front of a mirror and he'll appear. Just like Biggie Smalls.
He was recently summoned here: Scientology thread on SomethignAwful -
The sad part is...
...that might not be as far off as you think (or hope or wish), since the Travolta movie is based on only the first half of the novel. And then, of course, there's Hubbard's ten-volume series Mission Earth. Thank you for listening...

AddendumI got a note from Arnie Lerma who runs that site. (Yes, he noticed the sudden pounding and thinks it's great.) He said that there's a picture that he didn't provide a link to. It's here Take a look, and see what you think of it. (Zoom in a bit) Looks
.. weird. In Arnie's words:You might want to provide a pointer in that thread to a photo I havent linked to...
This was from the very lower right hand corner of the same image with the man with no head. The clams had pasted in a black girl wearing red ( so you would notice the black girl in the sea or white power-esque faces...) at it appears to be what looks like a "dick-head" in front of her.
The same black girl appears in a number of locations in the original, though this one view seems to be an expression of the disgust of the photo-editor team at having to do what they had been asked to do to editing the event pictures...and trying to "MAKE IT GO RIGHT"...
-
Scientology paved the way!Granted it certainly was "journalism", but remember the infamous Scientology event were they released photos which had been clumsily doctored to make the crowd look larger. This is the one where they grew hair on a bald guy, and had an appearance of the Man With No Head.
Scientology has been caught retro-doctoring photos Stalin style to remove people after they've fallen out of favour, like Reed Slatkin who's in big trouble for a long-running investment ponzi scam.
I hope the press has better ethics than Scientology.

Re:Google cache still works?
No! Scientology would never doctor photos to make people appear that really weren't there!

Scientology and Your Rights Offline
The Wayback Machine thing sucks, as do so many other Scientology actions against the net, but frankly I'm a little more concerned about how Scientology's actions affect people's rights out in the non-virtual world.
This is an organization that has framed critics, including journalist Paulette Cooper, who was indicted for sending bomb threats which, in reality, Scientology had sent to themselves. Scientology also attempted to frame Clearwater mayor Gabriel Cazares (for hit-and-run), U.S. District Judge Ben Krentzman (for solicitation and drug use), attorney Michael Flynn (for cashing a forged check), BBS operator Tom Klemesrud (for battery), attorney Graham Berry (for child molestation and battery), author Russell Miller (for murder), and former Scientologists Martin Hunt (for Internet posts; his report of the police officer's visit didn't mention what was being alleged about the posts) and Gene Allard (for grand theft - Allard won a 1974 malicious prosecution suit against Scientology).
Numerous instances of making false reports to police have been reported.
This is an organization that has seen 11 top-ranking executives go to jail in the U.S. for infiltrating government offices to steal and plant documents. In the similar Canadian trial, three Scientology executives and the Toronto church organization itself were found guilty of similar crimes.
The FBI raids in the late 70s turned up evidence of the frame-ups of Cooper and Cazares, along with evidence that Scientology had infiltrated numerous other government offices, such as the California Attorney General's office, as well as newspapers like the Clearwater Sun, law offices like Sidley & Austin, and other organizations, such as the Clark County Mental Health Agency. A Scientologist on the San Diego police force was fired for passing police information to Scientology.
A typical response from Scientology spokepeople is "that was years ago." (We never did that, and besides, we don't do it anymore.)
Well, there were five frame-up attempts that I can count in the past 3-4 years (Keith Henson, successfully framed and now a fugitive in Canada; Mark Bunker, acquitted; Bob Minton, acquitted twice but now apparently extorted into testifying for Scientology; Jesse Prince, hung jury).
There are also disturbing signs that Scientology is continuing to infiltrate government offices and businesses. A motion was filed just a couple of weeks ago alleging religious discrimination in the case of a woman who was fired from the Greenwich Housing Authority after Scientology management systems were introduced and employees were required to attend Scientology courses, paid for with thousands of dollars in public money, and the EEOC recently took action in a Texas case in which employees at a dental office were fired after refusing to attend Scientology classes. The Sacramento News & Review did a story not long ago about a publishing house that uses Scientology management techniques, run by Scientologists Dennis McKenna (who, as a Scientology spokesman, defended what Scientology did to Paulette Cooper) and Don Pearson (who gave extensive Scientology training to Allstate employees until management finally stopped it); the company, eRepublic, publishes a magazine on the use of technology in government (and another on the use of technology in education) and consults to governments on technology issues. The magazine includes ads for business training - never mentioning that it teaches Scientology principles - offered by people like Arte Maren - long-time Scientologist, co-conspirator in the 70s government infiltration case, and trainer in the Greenwich Housing Authority case.
I'm concerned that people confronted by Scientology training in the workplace don't know their rights. I hope the EEOC will vigorously defend people who are being illegally subjected to Scientology training at work - and I hope journalists will keep a closer eye on Scientology's continuing infiltration in government and business.

OK, my opinion regarding scientology's bogus religosity being merely religious cloaking is what you are replying to.
So, I feel confident I could prove scientology is just an elaborate scam
Regarding religions, and you bring up some that answer to a higher power, instead of a dead bad science fiction writer
I have one question for you, are you a scientologist? I expect them to start spamming these threads to try and make the critical content posted about Scientology, harder to find... and of course have every claim, especially the SCIENTOLOGY IS NOT A RELIGION clam watered down with endless verbiage about esoteric subjects
There are certainly problems within many religions. But discussion of those problems are way out of the realm of discussion of the Scientology Scam
Scientology is like a 19th century seedy carnival side show, whenever someone in the audience would yell out how the trick was done, he would be dragged outside by a couple of toughs stationed there for this purpose, and beaten up. Scientology's demeanor is identical to this, only in the 'civil' 20th century they use lawyers, then the entire sordid affair is cloaked in bogus religiosity.

ABOUT RELIGIOUS CLOAKING
I suggest that you Look at http://www.lermanet.com/LRonHubbard2.htm Which I herewith bequeath to slashdot till the end of time in case Archive.org can't manage it.
Having watched with mine own eyes in 1969 as "PRE-CLEAR FOLDER ADMIN" turned into "CONFESSIONAL FORMULARY", we were asked to wear white "collars" and watched as a cross was dragged into the building through the front door... WHILE ALL THE STAFF WATCHED AND KNEW IT WAS MERELY A "JOKE" AT THE TIME TO FOOL THE US GOVERNMENT which I later, much later learned was IN THIS CASE:
"An individual processed with the aid of the E-meter was said to reach the intended goal of "clear" and was led to believe there was reliable scientific proof that once cleared many, indeed most illnesses would automatically be cured. Auditing was guaranteed to be successful. All this was and is false -- in short, a fraud. " Federal District Judge Gesell 333 F. Supp. 357; 1971 U.S. Dist
I was there, so was Joe Harrington, so was Gordon Bell, so was Alan Walters...
"I attest this to be exactly the truth." says Roger Gonnet - Ex-director of Scientology in Paris
We joined an applied philosophy based upon the "scientific" principles.Claiming Scientology is a religion WAS and IS a LIE!
The Religious Cloaking described above was invoked by a Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, issued 12 February 1969 , on page 119 of the 1969 version of Volume 6 of the Hubbard Organization Executive Course ""All Orgs are now Churches" and "Stationary is to reflect fact than orgs are churches" and "All public literature must state that Scn is religious" It also states "This may or may not be publicly acceptable. This is NOT the point. It is a requisite defense."

The wayback machine situation and the google debacle previously covered on slashdot is just the tip of the iceberg of deception called Scientology.
The efforts to silence criticism cover the the complete gamut of the edges of what society will tolerate.
Time Magazine 1991
Time Magazine was forced to spend 7.5 million defending this suit.
The Judge in the case concluded that Scientology was a cult.Don't wonder why there arn't more ex-members speaking out, Scientology has a pattern of conduct of litigation for silence. Look at how much they have spent GAGGING ex-members HERE. - Note well: This is just what I have been able to find out

- Note well: This is just what I have been able to find out
Scientology claimed in its own court filings to have spent 1,700,000 suing me in RTC vs Lerma. Judge Brinkema was so outraged buy their conduct in the case, the raid where the scientologists, themselves, searched my home, even when they moved the attorney fees for the for 5/17ths of case that they 'won' { having LOST their TRADE SECRET CLAIMS ) for the story of XENU and the BODY THETANS.. Judge Brinkema Awarded them ZERO.
Further Google, while running tons of adverts for scientology REFUSES to run mine
Remember this - what we have webbed is only WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT for sure... I've been at this for 8 years trying to expose them, and even for me, I keep finding out that things that are worse than even I think
You have witnessed just the tip of the iceberg of the Scientology's pattern of conduct to try to intimidate witnesses into silence by extortionate conduct.
Anything you can do to get the word out will be appreciated..
Sincerely,

The ultimate anti-scientology site
http://www.clambake.org is just an alternate link to xenu.net.
In all my research, I've found the some very truthful and informative sites about Scientology:
Another Look at Scientology
Lermanet.com
A couple other interesting articles are found here:
L. Ron Hubbard birthday bash!
An interview with International President Heber Jentzsch
Learn the truth about Scientology from more than just OC because Andreas Heldal-Lund (the maintainer of xenu.net) goes a little too far at times without proper proof. He deserves our support, but he's not the only one trying to inform the public about CoS. Read more of what ex members have to say. -
Re: Scientology is worse than you thinkyes I think they do believe
... they sure want to believe.. like the poster in Mulder's office in X files...
" Scientologists believe that most human problems can be traced to lingering spirits of an extraterrestrial people massacred by their ruler, Xenu, over 75 million years ago. These spirits attach themselves by "clusters" to individuals in the contemporary world, causing spiritual harm and negatively influencing the lives of their hosts ". USDJ Judge Leonie Brinkema 4 Oct 96 Memorandum Opinion, RTC vs Lerma
All the way up to and including some of their lawyers... Like Earle Cooley on the BOD of Boston University.. However... a little known fact, Scientology is directed by non scientologist lawyers at the very top - a corp entity called CST - "Church of Spiritual Technology".... I can only assume these scumbags could not resist the litigation opportunity that Hubbard's nutball tenets provided for eternal litigation { and the big fat bills ) IMO at the very top - Scientology is just a conspiracy of lawyers to perpetrate fraud upon the public...
But the leadership of the blue suited a-la-Wild Palms all believe in xenu.
Though many of them don't know it yet.. cause it's secret....
Are you thoroughly disgusted yet?
see What Judges Say on my website also see the FAQ's button on the tool bar
and again thanks to slashdot for getting xenu.net and scientology's manipulations into the public eye yet again...

"And when the data is removed form the search engine, it, on the long run, is removed from the public conscious."Yup, I truly understand your point, where will it end?
Rich Leiby at the Washington post talked about this in his christmas day 1994 article which is webbed here: http://www.lermanet.com/cos/lerma.html "The Church's War Against Its Critics----and Truth"
Thats why I chose to fight them...though there seems to be a very thin market for the whole of the truth
Ferengi + Borg = Scientology
I'd prefer to die speaking my mind than live fearing to speak.
The only thing that always works in scientology are its lawyers

Thanks for the pointer Sweenytodd,
Well, right now the Keith Henson page mentioned in article at operatingthetan.com is unavailable.. due to load from slashdot hits, we need to spread the load out for folks that are motivated to find out more about the KING of CONs.. L Ron Hubbard,
It doesnt matter which of the many critical pages one hits...we are all hooked to the resources on each other's pages. An index of the critical sites is here: http://www.lermanet.com/links/index.html,
All folks have to do to defeat scientology and send it to the scarp yard of history is to keep on getting the word out,

Scientology is worse than you think
If you were to breed the Ferengi with the Borg you would end up with Scientology.
I am an ex member now considered an 'enemy' of scientology because my activities and statements interfere with the continued extraction of money from the targets of this scam.
The Scientology program is optimized to extract money. One of the scientology program's subroutines tells the adherents to demonize their enemies, this is a pattern of conduct for fanatic extremist groups.
Scientology maintains control of Tom Cruise, Jenna Elfman, John Travolta and the rest of their pretty faced minons by controlling the information they see. By surrounding them with scientology drones.
Scientology's history of seeking gag agreements through burdensome litigation is just a means to an end. it is no more than another effort to control the information available.
I posted the Fishman affidavit to alt.religion.scientology in 1995, and endured almost 2 million in scientology litigation and refused 3 cash offers to settle - because I refused to take the gag agreement that would prevent me from explaining to YOU how dangerous these crazy bastards are.
To Scientology gag agreements are just the cost of doing business. Part of their effort to control the flow of information.
Scientology's massive efforts to create zillions of domains pointing at their website is just another example of Information Control.
The scientology spam and sporge on alt.religion.scientology is just informtion control.
Totalitarian systems, like Stalinist communism or Scientology cannot survive when information is free.
Scientology has been waging information warfare upon the web so that they might have a better chance to capture a few children's lives with their lies.
Don't let Scientolgoy win the google war, help get the word out, cause Scientology is worse than you think

Re:What's with scientology?
It's not really all that surprising. They have a long history of threatening anybody who critises them. They drove one critic out of America, sued the creator of this site, to name two of the more well known actions.
They have no choice. Their creater, L Ron Hubbard, said that they were to never defend, always attack. They can't help themselves. I run a small web site, with some critical information on it, and I've had legal threats. -
Re:Ministry of Truth
$cientology loves digital photos, and loves to edit them too! A couple of years ago they doctored photos of one of their events to fill in empty seats. Too bad the duplicated people were easy to spot, as was The Man With No Head. Photo Lies
The Man With No Head was recently spotted in a photo of Co$'s Volunteer Ministers "helping out" at the WTC. No head Take a good look at the shadows. What a bunch of ghouls!
That's one problem with digital photos, they're too easy to manipulate. -
Why so many criminals in Scientology?
How come so many Scientologists and Scientology supporters have criminal records? How come so many of them are losers who are taking their personal frustration out on the critics of their crimes?
We have Founder L. Ron Hubbard with his criminal conviction for petty theft for passing bad checks and with a record of wife-beating and drug abuse, who died on psych drugs while hiding from the authorities. Not only did his ex-wife and his own son describe him as a "paranoid schizophrenic" but a judge even described the cult he founded as "paranoid and schizophrenic" and stated that this was a "reflection of its founder." Among his other crimes, L. Ron Hubbard was sentenced to four years of prison for fraud by a French court, but he remained a fugitive from this charge as well.
Hubbard was also a child abuser, who forced his son L. Ron Hubbard, Jr. to take phenobarbitol and who was fined $50 and sentenced to probation for abandoning his own daughter in a vehicle.
Theft conviction
Wife-beating and drug abuse
Death on psych drugs coroner report
Described as a "paranoid schizophrenic" by ex-wife
Described as a "paranoid, schizophrenic megalomaniac" by his own son
Described as "schizophrenic and paranoid" by judge
Convicted of fraud and sentenced to four years in prison
Fined and put on probation for abandoning his daughter in a vehicle
Forced his own son to take drugsThen we have L. Ron Hubbard's third wife Mary Sue Hubbard, who was convicted of felonies and served jail time for helping her husband mastermind the biggest domestic espionage case in American history, involving burglarizing government offices routinely and committing other crimes. Even her own lawyers admitted that she had committed these crimes, as well as 11 other Scientologists who were convicted of crimes including felonies.
Sentencing memorandum describing crimes as "heinous and vicious"
Stipulation of evidence admitting to multiple felonies by Hubbard and other defendantsNext comes the President of the cult he founded, Heber Jentzsch, who has just recently skipped out on a million dollars bail for felonies in Spain, making him a fugitive from justice and persona non grata in all of Europe. A habitual liar, who constantly claims that his cult has eight million members, this criminal can be seen in handcuffs all around the net, and can accurately be described as a bail-jumping felon.
