Re:It must just be me
I see art and science as the complete opposites, but then I have this quote:
"It is said that the meaning of school
is to make kids stop asking questions
to those that this fails
they become scientists"
{?}
But the last word could just as well be "artists".
Offline I've had some really nice discussions with a science mind, it's funny because he's like a human searchengine, and Google wouldn't be able to replace him.
"You know that a-bit-fat guy, blonde hair, comedian?"
And he would know that name, which I obviously don't remember now, and that was a bad example. I could link a guy who says he's a scientist, or something (he's, uhm, thurough) and he happens to write some good poetry (that's a lie, his just opinions are better writings). -

Marketing that I don't despise
I have to admit, this is honestly a decent idea. The thing I have noticed about 'blogs' and journals and such is that they've made expression on the internet much more coherent than it used to be. Once you weed out all of the "OMFG! I was so...", you only have to scan for keywords to find out what is on the mind of the writer. I've seen documentaries about traditional marketing, and the methods were atrocious. Usually, the market researcher would do a street study and find a handful of the trendiest people for the demographic and ask them their questions. Now, they can practically run a spider on blogspot, modblog and livejournal and have results that aren't so biased on personal appearance and managablity.
Besides, if they ran a study and hit http://fiz4pope.modblog.com/, then we'd be in for a hell of a surprise. Or maybe I'd just be locked up. -
Re:just wait...
ah, I wish it were so! But I'm still learning, myself, having discovered Linux and gotten into serious programming only a few years ago. At my blog http://hackersnest.modblog.com/ (also linkable from the blog in my sig), I post code in a few languages, intended to give others at my approximate learning level an example of how to do certain tricks, and also so I can track my own progress. In the "hobbies" section of the blogspot blog, I also occasionally share some howto on hardware topics, game guides, etc. But that's the extent of my contributions so far. While some of the code at hackersnest can have educational functions (word-guessing games and such) I have nothing aimed at the very young. Over time, I hope to get good enough that my graphics-intensive games/activities are fit to post on sourceforge. In the meantime, scour sourceforge.net, where other, more experienced hands may be found! My little rant was intended to throw fertilizer on the grass-roots movement, so to speak, to get more Linux desktops in more schools, because I think it would be a Very Good Thing! If only open-source was around back when I was in grade school, my mucking around in the computer lab would have had more stimulating results...children of my generation grew up more prone to think of computers as toys made by corporations, impenetrable and impervious, useful for playing games on and writing emails and nothing else. The next generation has to have the view that computers belong to *them*, theirs to program, build, and take on the world with, if our civilization hopes to progress into the next stage of science. The present state, where the public mindset is still suffering from the delusion that computers are the exclusive domain of a few millionaires, and that they only can run the handfull of limited applications those millionaires approve, is counter-productive to an educational goal.

Aussies Can Sure Drink
I met several Aussies on a Contiki Tour through Europe and they definitely drank the most at the Beer Hall in Germany! Don't get me wrong though. I loved the Australians! They were the nicest people I have ever met. Very outgoing, inclusive and fun. But, now they can put some tunes to their merrymaking. Cheers mates!

That's a Bummer
Hey, Thanks for clearing that up. I was thinking you got 25 free song downloads each month and was wondering what people were sulking about because 25 free songs is a lot. Too bad it's just 25 "listens". But, it's something right? Better than nothing free at all.

WTP for an MP3 song? Here in Indonesia, a band approached us with the same questions. Now, I am trying to get some answers to those questions. The first one that I'd like to know is the willingness to pay (WTP).
Right now I am doing a poll at my blog rahard.modblog.com. How much would you willing to pay for an MP3 song. The top vote is between Rp.1000 to Rp.5000. That's around US10c to US 50 cents. Bear in mind our low GDP.
One postive note is that only 9% voted for free (gratis) MP3. So, in general, people are willing to pay. The million dollar question is
... how much?BTW, let us know what you decide

Brad said leave, so I left to ModBlog.
"If you want to run for the hills and backup your journal and move to another service, feel free, but hopefully you'll be back in 6 months when we've proven ourselves."
That's good advice nowso more than ever. I ran for the hills and, honestly, I doubt I'll be back in 6 months. ModBlog offers unlimited image space, full image gallery, free domain forwarding/pointing, live-time stats, no ads, chatterbox, RSS feed, music playlist import and way more is hard to beat. Did I mention it's all free without ads? There isn't even a "paid" or "premium" option because it's all already free!
Since Brad neglected to give the link, I will.

Exported from LiveJournal (XML) -> Imported into ModBlog. Blam. Done. That easy. Literally.
No, this isn't an ad or spam. I'm just saying... it worked for me. And since Brad said to, don't we owe it to ourselves to follow the directions of our Fearless Leader? http://www.ModBlog.com -
Realistically...
Not sure how many people will actually take the time to change the graphics???
Don't get me wrong... the idea of changing the pictures on your iPod and personalizing your iPod is really cool! I just don't know how many will take the time and effort to do it.
Really clever firmware hack by the way. :)

No Surprise to those in the know.
I blogged this last week.

Tickets for other things too... in the future!
This is very cool!
Pretty soon we will have tickets to other sporting events, music concerts, musicals, and more on our cell phones.
Only... if the ticket does not show up on your cell phone... do you have any other proof?
Plus... if venues continue to not allow camera phone... what then???

Viva la revolucion
- A revolution in portable power, where one can operate it continuously for 24 hours with a recharge. Sucky power has prevented me from buying any portable electronic device
- Comes as an armband covering my entire lower left arm. I don't want to carry it, drop it. It should flip up so it's twice as wide as my arm. Upper half display, lower half interface. When closed, the other side is display on the left, interface on the right.
- Can steady the muscular movements of my arm, project a HUD overlay into my optical nerve ir visual cortex, and grant me perfect pistol aim and targetting
- I'd also settle for bionic eyes.

we should switch to sevencube and...
... avoid such stories about capitalisation.

Gmail impressions and 10 screenshots
I've been using Gmail for a few hours now, and I'm very impressed with it. This is really the best use of Javascript I've seen. It isn't there to add a bunch of cool effects, but to actually increase functionality and usability. So far it has been very, very fast and fairly bug-free considering its beta status.
The only complain I have so far is that by default, it didn't catch any of the spam I received. However, I've reported all of it as spam, so it will be interesting to see if it improves based upon that. So far though, its spam filter doesn't seem quite in line with filters such as the one in Apple's Mail client. Speaking of Apple, it does appear to work pretty well in Safari. There are a few quirks compared to loading it in Firefox, but nothing show-stopping.
If they can work out the spam filter and polish everything up, which I'm sure they can, they've got a true winner here. I'm copying over all of my regular POP3 e-mail to my new Gmail account so that I can access it anywhere and perform more in-depth searching on it. After all, if there's one thing Gmail tops all web and application-based Mail clients on, it is definitely searching.
I urge you to check out these screenshots for a better look at Gmail than the two or three screenshots others have posted by clicking here.
Gmail is as good as the hype suggested :) -
Re:Goal-less productivity...
Well said that man. Thats been my point exactly for a while, and these last few years I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get others to see my viewpoint. (My site.) I'm glad there are more of us in this world.
