I didn't find the crude "anus" humor so funny. What made it funny to me was seeing this site after sites that let you buy property on the moon and on Mars along with the radio advertisements allowing you to name a star after someone. That combined with the "anus" humor cracked me up.

Nonetheless, I don't really think that this is the funniest site on the internet. It's called hyperbole.

Of course, there are all those people who claim that some royalty paid their great-great-great and so on grand father for some great work by giving them the moon.

I hope they've already gotten the deed to the property, otherwise somebody else might get there first and snap up all the good land.

I don't pay too much attention to the ads since it kinda runs by itself, and my experience is that Google does a pretty darn good job targetting 'em ... but I sometimes get a bit of a chuckle out of what shows up - for instance, I have some Lunar Eclipse Pictures and one of the Adsense ads was some place selling real estate on the moon! ;-)

There already is a company that sells plots on the moon. It appears to be legit, supposidly this guy was granted rights to do this buy sending letters to all the members of the UN stating that since no one claimed rights to the property he was claiming it for himself. According to the law if no one objected the property was his. Several large coperations (lots of hotel chains) have purchesed space including the US government. Celebrities have purchesed some land too.

I don't know who owns the moon but one can "buy" a piece of the moon. One problem though is that you can buy these parts from different companies like here or there (there are other "vendors", maybe check the yellow pages?). Question: what happens when the same piece of moon is sold twice? A lunar war in the making!

There are now various websites selling 1 acre plots of the moon on his behalf (amazingly, one of them claims 1-3 days for delivery).

Apparently, no country owns the moon.

A declaration of ownership was filed with the United Nations as well as the US and Russian governments 20 years ago by Mr. Dennis M. Hope of the Lunar Embassy, to ensure that a legal basis for the ownership of the properties sold here can be claimed. On that wonderful day in 1980, the Lunar Embassy was born.

The sale of lunar property has been ongoing for 20 years by the Lunar Embassy, which are THE ONLY COMPANY in the world to posess a legal basis and copyright for the sale of lunar, and other extraterrestrial property within the confines of our solar system. Sorry to say - the moon already _is_ owned. At least
according to a story on As it Happens heard on CBC and APR. I heard the story on the
show about two years ago, and proceeded to find a link to the people
that claim lunar possession.
According to what the show said, there was a treaty signed between countries that no country could declare ownership of the moon. But nowhere did it say that no individual could.
The person who noticed this said at the time that he was going to sue NASA for leaving a mess on his propriety. And they're selling 18000 acre proprieties for 30 bucks.

(Yeah, I know. Its most likely a scam. But I just had to point it out. :) )
