Perhaps less important, but...
I keep a list of useful extensions here of which I use the ones with a version number next to them; most of those have already been mentioned, but here are some of those that I find quite useful that I didn't see (either weren't mentioned so far or I skimmed over them, sorry
;)
Slim Extension List (0.1) tidies the extension manager by reducing the display size of entries. (Good for people with too many extensions ;)
Stop-or-Reload Button (0.1) make more room on your toolbar by combining the stop and reload buttons.
Flashblock (1.3.1) prevents autoloading of flash files; one click starts them going.
BugMeNot (0.8) extremely useful for browsing news (and other) sites that normally make you 'register for free' when you don't want to.
DictionarySearch (0.9.3) highlight a word and then look it up with just a couple clicks!
Finally, I should mention Cards (0.16.1) 27 Card Games for Firefox (including Solitaire ^_-) Now, you might ask how that's useful, but you'd be surprised how much that can interest some people who have never tried Firefox before... and getting them to switch from IE is a good thing, ne? ;-) -

- Translate - Quick translation of any page by selection from the tools menu
- Live HTTP Headers
- EditCSS
- Tab Mix - Most features you would expect from a tab extension, including session save and recovery
- Web Developer
- Disable Targets for Downloads - prevents blank windows/tabs from being opened when you try to download a binary file

how 'bout Mozex?
Lets you edit any textbox with your favorite editor. Also good for Wikis and submitting comments, feedback, or questions. Check it out:
http://mozex.mozdev.org/
Other favorites have already been mentioned: all-in-one gestures, flash block, and Googlebar. -
For Web Developers
My favourites:
Makes developing websites and web applications that much easier.

NoScript...
NoScript has to be on the top of my list (right after Adblock and Greasemonkey)...Disabling JS globaly and only allowing it where it is necessary keeps out almost all ads...pages load faster, and you don't have to worry about information leaks...
Some others I use...BetterSearch, LinkPreview, Outfoxed, BugMeNot, del.icio.us and Farky... -
I'll match your gestures and raise you a menu
Radial menues are IMHO way better than mouse gestures. For Firefox you can try RadialContext or Easy geastures. Personally I prefer the RadialContext plugin as I find that it's a bit cleaner.
The benefit you get from using radial menues instead of only gestures is that you actually get feedback as you perform the gesture. So if you can't remember the gesture then you can just right click and the menues will guide you through it. Once you know it you no longer need to look at the menues and only do the gesture directly.
I recommend those interested in gestures to take a look at it. -

Multizilla
It isn't out for Firefox, but Multizilla is probably the most useful extension that I've seen. It allows drag/drop tab placement, double clicking to close a tab, changing website permissions for each separate tab (Image loading, for example), and tons of other shit that the Tabbrowser extension for Firefox seems to miss. Multizilla and Adblock have made my browsing experience a pleasant one for years. Unfortunately, I can't switch to Firefox until Multizilla is ported over. Well, Multizilla and the integrated mail client. Okay fuck it, I have no plans of moving away from the suite.

Re:Can't blind on purposeModify what you said, and then you've got what they're doing now.
Also, is it such a good idea to [blow someone's head off while they're] driving a moving vehicle. Couldn't that increase the potential for damage somewhat?
At least when they're blind they can hit the breaks (maybe even steer to the side of the road), and there's less risk of killing someone else in the car (think of the children! ;)) when you miss.

Re:game pad support?
Download it from a torrent or something and if you like it, pay for it. If you don't like it, remove it from your system. It's what I did when I wanted to check it out (I ended up paying for it - it runs HL2 very well)

Re:Honest question - please hear me out.
I had trouble with it too.
I tried various RSS readers but they all seemed like a pain. But what turned me around was this http://inforss.mozdev.org/ extention for Firefox.
It's like a News Ticker in your browser. Something catches your eye? Mouse over it for a more detailed discription (when available) or just click on it for the page to be loaded in a new tab!
I love it! It should come as part of the default installation! -
Re:A mixed bag
If they're going to target Cedega for compatibility, why not just use SDL, OpenGL and OpenAL instead of going through another cycle-eating software layer that simply acts as a Direct* wrapper around them? It would enable you to use anything in those libraries without having to worry if the guys over at Transgaming are keeping up with Microsoft.
Writing for what's basically an emulator so you maintain a false "cross-platform" compatibility is not the way to go, and it is not the way it will go. The only way to be truly and effectively cross-platform is to only use cross-platform libraries.
Interesting possibility? Yes. But not very good for anyone.

If you install Greasemonkey, there's a script for it which will add a delete button to the page alongside the "archive" one Google seems to think you should use for even the most useless messages.

Re:A mixed bag
South Korea is effectively the world headquarters of gaming, and the PC varieties of those games run on Windows
Think about what you said, and then think about how much incentive that is for companies to port their games to Linux. Korea may seem like a small country, but it's big enough to influence decisions like this. I'm sure Valve would port the next generation of Half-Life if it would get them 600,000 more sales.
Disclaimer: I pulled that number out of my ass.

Re:A mixed bag
Sure, if you're only making one install CD, it's almost free.
But we're talking about installing on about FIFTY MILLION computers. If you are going to do that, you will need a factory to print CDs, a distribution network to get them out there, etc... Linspire already has this, and they're offering to do it all for about 10 cents a computer.

Re:Unfortunately, there's a downside as well.
Try installing Flashblock http://flashblock.mozdev.org/, which will disable flash objects until you click on them. This cut back the number of pop up ad's I was getting in Firefox.

Enough already.
C'mon - nuclear energy is past due in our country. There are two power sources on this planet not dependent upon the sun: geothermal and nuclear. America needs more nuclear plants; hell, we needed them twenty years ago. Stop throwing money into ventures that are not going to produce the dividens, and start putting money in the nuclear power plants. And please save the FUD about nuclear catastrophes/Chernobyl for someone else, or for another thread. It makes you sound like a fundamentalist*. *gasp* *Being a fundamentalist, that was the worst insult I could come up with. Nothing pisses off a liberal more than being called a fundy. hahahah

Re:General comments...
A nicer and newer version of Session Saver that works with this release is available from it's homepage or at ExtensionsMirror.
A newer version of Flashblock is available at MozDev.
It's a pain, but they do work much better than the versions available on Mozilla. -
Re:Java pluginIf you just follow the instructions under:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html#Java
You won't have any trouble.
The command I ran was:
ln -s
/usr/java/jre1.5.0_05/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugi n_oji.so \ <br/>
/usr/lib/firefox-1.0.7/plugins/libjavaplugi n_oji.so
Just correct the version numbers and that should work. -
Re:Pop-up blockingBy and large, this is because the website uses at Flash plugin to generate new windows of a specific URL and size. Some websites seem to hook Javascript onto links so that when you click on a "Next Page" or equivalent, a popup appears, but this hasn't happened to me in ages.
If 1.5RC1 doesn't solve this issue, I highly recommend installing Flashblock, which ensures no Flash executes unless you specifically click on it. For these "hidden" Flash animations, you can never click on them, so no more popups for you.

Same for TV
The same thing is happening to TV news and weather programs. I can't recall the last time I sat and watched an evening news program for any length of time, and I only rarely get weather info from television. More often than not I just glance over Google News and then at my ForecastFox bar in Firefox. That tells me all I need to know, and from enough different sources that I can easily decide what's biased and what's not.
Given that, who needs the hassle of surfing channels and listening to news anchors blather endlessly about the state of post-Katrina New Orleans? I prefer my information to be served up quickly, in a format where I don't have to wait for commercial breaks.
