Re:Retro NES USB Controller
OP here. I have seen the stick you offer (and many like it) on Amazon, but those a) usually are analog (digital sticks are much easier to operate) and b) can only be used standing on a desk etc., not hand-held. I'm going to connect the 'puter to my plasma and want to go for the "living room style" gaming. Even the old Quickshots were shitty in this respect because you'd need a book or something to put them on.
And you're spot on - I want a stick, not a pad. At 35, I'm in the pre-pad gaming generation and despise pads to the very day. No matter how much I practice, I just don't get the level of control of a nice, handy digital joystick.

Revision 1571?
Will it work on my Commodore?

Mine had a RS-232C port, afaik.
I'd linked my C128 up to a CoCo2 and we had me remote controlling the CoCo2 via this method. It worked ok locally, but pair it up via modem and over phone lines and it was painfully slow.
I've transfered files back and forth between many different OSes included Atari, Radio Shack, Unix, Mainframes, and other oddball's.
Great computer, but it can't run WoW. -

Some other bad things
Commodore didn't make really good joysticks. My friend bought one of those C64G bundles and by the end of the week, the stick was busted.
I remember one of their "popular" sticks. Triangular handle. Triangular.
(But I hope everyone knows what's the best C64 stick. =)

Re:Nintendo's ControllerI just lined up the NES, SNES, N64 and GCN controllers and I can see a pattern:
The SNES controller was a vastly improved NES controller, the N64 controller was completely different.
The GC controller is a vastly improved N64 controller...So I'm guessing the Revolution controller will be completely different. Like nothing we've seen before. I think this comment is a bluff, as all games could be played comfortably on the GC controller, and the revolution has GC ports, so in designing the controller, all they have to do is release a revolution branded GC controller and the complete backwards compatibility problem is solved.
Since the Revolution controllers will be wireless, I'm guessing the Wavebird will work natively without the required receiver (which, if the console shell doesn't change, wouldn't fit the GC ports anyway).
We have a few more months to wait, but I am certain, that if the controller is not completely mind blowingly different, they wouldn't have included the GC ports.

Re:I would think an even bigger problem would be..A SNES pad has eight.
A,B,X,Y,Left shoulder,Right shoulder,Select and Start. What to do about X and Y is the problem.

Ethernet over Serial Connection?
Anyone know what I'd need to do to get TCP/IP over RS-232 with this? They say it can be done on the page, but I'm not sure what kind of cables I'd need. The coolest thing about this project is that it will run on a standard c64, with no expansions of any kind.
(Currently looking at c64 and 1541 drive sitting on my closet shelf.)
Finally I have a use for that XE1541 cable I bought two or three years ago. -
Re:Here's some more retro ads
Too bad they don't seem to have the Finnish C64 ads. They can, fortunately, be found from ntrautanen...
I looked harder and found this ad someone mentioned in a book about microcomputers in Finland... the ad says "This special offer may also include a job for you in the future." This was in 1984. And guess which computer the local Big (And Smaller) Names In The Industry have very fond memories of? =)

Re:Anyone got a working Atari?
Yeah, C64 joysticks rock.
The Suncom TAC-2 is, as proven by all scientific tests, completely indestructable. (I wish PC sticks would have this sort of durability. =) I don't even remember how many years I have had this thing and it's still kicking. Wow.
