Clap skates become popular in the late 1990s because they had an advantage over the traditional skates, and now nearly all speedskaters use them. "Not being able to afford it" sounds like an economic reason to me. But my point is that people in the third world aren't starving because they lack fertilizer. We tried giving it to them during the Green Revolution, and it was a disaster. The reasons are a lot more complicated than that, and I don't see how their situation lends any support to the belief that we need massive amounts of chemical fertilizer to feed the world.

The original purpose of taxes at the federal level were to repay war debts from the Civil War. After these debts were paid the federal income tax was repealed, only to be reinstated a couple of decades later in 1894 (although this was blocked by the US Supreme Court until the 16th amendment was passed). The 16th amendment was specifically passed to redistribute wealth, with tax rates of 73% for the wealthiest shortly after the amendment was passed.

In practice the courts have severely limited its application. So frequently even in educational institutions, materials are denied to students because of fear of copyright (unless they cough up very big bucks). Many types of copyright of simply unnecessary for creativity. We had no copyright on buildings before December 1, 1990 but we do after that date. Did that damage creativity there? No of course not. Buzz, I guess you haven't received the word yet, the US is the largest food exporter in the world. If all farm subsidies and other farm supports were ended all that would happen is that a Mexican corn farmer would be able to make a living on his or her farm. As would an Indonesian cotton farmer.
