I get this page when I click the link: http://www.fbi.gov/?2006/03/29/google-page-creato
The website just deflects the Slashdot effect. Check the coralized version : http://tamspalm.tamoggemon.com.nyud.net:8090/2006r -review/ [fbi.gov] Is this supposed to be funny, has /. been hacked, or am I infected? I'm on a University of Idaho computer.../ 03/29/google-page-creator-review/ -
Re:Sad but true
well just because companies such as google are forced by local law doesn't mean you have to follow suit, i stumbled across anonet who are forming an underground network. the link actually came from a previous post on slashdot: http://anonetnfo.brinkster.net.nyud.net:8090/ its an intresting read but real worth the sharp learning curve, and even those hidden techies can learn somthing new!

People value their timeBallmer says this like three or four times. Geez Steve, save me some time and say it once. Oh, and if that is your first reason, you can't use it as your second reason, too.
"people value [...] the compatibility our stuff has with itself"
Okay, but it's not compatible with anything else. And that's a problem. What does "da-deet" mean? Pick a real language and use that, Steve!
I'm glad that MicroSoft acts responsibly, stands behind its products, and patches its products in a timely fashion.
Not like some free software, eh? Look at that - sendmail has an unpatched bug where it does not log some mail!"You mention intellectual", but I do not think it means what you think it means.
On a lot of these interviews, I think they could really use a better spokesperson than Ballmer. This guy might do better. Rant over for the moment.

Re:Rock is a good insulator
You seem to assume that the rock down there is dry. The fact of the matter is that the rock has lots and lots of fractures and tiny tunnels through which water flows. The water, or steam, flows to the surface and there the energy is extracted from it. Like the article says they have already gone down to 3,082m and are now conducting flow tests, which means they are seeing how much water is coming up the hole. Of course there is the possibility that the waterflow is below a certain threshold which would render the hole economically unviable, but there is certainly no magma being moved or circulated anywhere either. Never. The Coral Cache (or mirrordot, or whatever else) go down faster than the website itself. The coral-cache has been
/.ed now, since you posted a link to it (only in comments, not even the main story). That's all right, we'll just coral-cache the coral-cache. Everyone should now use http://www.flexbeta.net.nyud.net8090.nyud.net:809

Choosing MD4 over MD5 for password hashes?
Considing the on-going reports that the majority of security threats occurs internal to the company, I find Microsoft's claim surprising. Stach & Liu's research on MD5 and MD4 collisions showed that MD5 took 500 times as long to crack than MD4. So have 3.3 million customers migrated their directory service to store passwords in MD4 format instead of MD5? Is the ease by which MD4 can be broken just not a consern?

OT - I'd use Opera, but...
I'd like to use Opera. It feels nicer and more complete than Firefox, and the much smaller footprint & startup time are also plusses. However, the only thing keeping me from using Opera is that I couldn't find an Adblock-like feature/plugin for it. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? Bonus points if it's compatable with Filterset.G.

Video of Windows install on imacYou can see a mysterious video here which seems to be proof that the job has been done (obviously the person is being secretive about how he did it until he claims his reward). Brilliant - now we can have the viruses, spyware and blue screens of death that I thought I had left behind. Of course the positive side is that there is now no reason not to buy an Apple, with the beautiful Mac OSX for all your day to day tasks, and Windows for those other programmes/games you think you can't live without.

Related forum thread...I found the following thread about bullying on an anime forum.
http://boards.jp.nyud.net:8090/forums/archive/inde x.php/t-9182
Included there was the following poll:What's your solution for school bullying?
Having school laws against bullying - 8 (25.00%)
Forgiving (by law) those who get even (just fists, no weapons) at bullies - 7 (21.88%)
Having a special school court on fights and bullying - 5 (15.63%)
things are OK the way they are - 12 (37.50%)
I think the problem with bullying is that it's not "critical enough" to get noticed by authorities (unlike breaking someone's leg for example), while it damages the victim's psyche. So, if you accuse someone of bullying, nothing can be done because bullying's not against the school's laws. But if you get even, you end up getting suspended. -
