Elegant, hypnotic, and not what google uses. Google scans the books, lying flat. It projects a grid-like pattern over the pages in IR, photographs up the distorted image using 3D cameras, and recreates a 3D model of the book, and uses that model to undistort the pages. It uses human slaves to turn the pages, since robots aren't as gentle.

Instead, the tracker records the network-level IP address from where the HTTP request originated (the other end of the TCP connection), together with the supplied port, as the peer's network address.

In this case CoralCDN was effectively acting as a proxy - the IP address wasn't being falsified. Although these guys did appear to have some luck with falsified IP addresses: Why My Printer Received a DMCA Takedown Notice.

Get your kisser warmed up... this rot is already well entrenched. In Australia we have a TV media company claiming that any list of the programs it broadcasts constitutes a derivative work of their schedule and therefore infringing [1], while at the same time refusing to licence their schedule to parties that might make use of it (like MythTV users). While (eventually) our High Court sided with the little guy, I won't have to look far to find other instances where copyright claims on aggregations of facts lead to ridiculous demands for royalties.

The difference impacts the rendering of the document beginning on page 16. It appears to have HTTP headers inserted into the file. The same difference is seen across these download programs: firefox, lynx, wget. There may be a bad replication to that site. Maybe they used a bad HTTP client.
