Re:AMD64 Suport?
No, that's a 32-bit build optimized for newer chips.
The GP wanted a 64-bit native build.
Last I checked, mmoy (basically some guy on MozillaZine's forum) was trying to do that - I don't think he's quite there yet. See bug 237202 on Mozilla's bugzilla.

The Real Kerry
Now I am certain to upset many of the Bush-bashers out there, but I believe this site brings up some interesting things to consider about Kerry.
However, one should interpret "Not Voting" as letting the majority vote for you. Since the majority is Republican, the fact that Kerry often did not vote means that he is effectively the most central of all Democrats, based on all the votes cast in 2003.(emphasis added)
While another poster claimed this was showing bias toward Kerry, really this is more condemning than anything. Kerry's record clearly shows that he has liberal leanings.
Poole claims that Kerry is liberal but not extreme, Clinton, Jackman & Rivers say that it's hard to say due to his absenteeism but also that Kerry is not extreme.(emphasis added)
The point here is not that Kerry is liberal or moderate, but that his inaction makes him effectively the most central democrat as well as the least influential senator. If I were a resident of Massachusetts, I would be very upset that my representative didn't even bother to even try to represent me before congress. If he was working at a "real job", he certainly wouldn't be up for a promotion.
Now Bush may have made some serious mistakes, and I won't even claim that I agree with him on every issue. However, Kerry's record does not exactly lend himself to being a "desirable" candidate. He had far too many missed votes last year, and he was a no-show to many of his committee meetings. He claims that he can get congress and other nations to work together, but he has no record of being able to accomplish this during his tenure in the Senate. In any job, you must first prove yourself where you are at before you can expect to be promoted and given increased responsibility. Given his record, I would question whether he really deserves another term as Senator.
Personally, I find it sad that the Democrats could not come up with a better candidate to run against Bush. It saddens me even more that such a poor candidate as Kerry is staying close in this election merely because many voters want anyone but Bush. Well, we might just get that wish. Are we really sure that we want it?

interesting...
They have a similarity matrix that pairs Senators and measures how close their votes were to other Senators. It's arranged in order of the clustered blocks in the Senate and if you look at Kerry's data on the vertical you'll notice that he, Edwards, and Lieberman are the Democrats who most agreed with Republicans on matters. This is interesting because two are running for President and Vice President while many thought the third would be Kerry's running mate.
Furthermore, there is a decent sized band of midwestern Republicans who are faintly in agreement with the Democrats. It's the midwest that's usually depicted as a big red blob of Bush voters.
Also worth noting is the middle pack of Democrats and Republicans who nearly never agreed with any Democrats.
It looks as though Kerry got on better with both parties of the house than anyone else, despite all the reports we hear of him being the most liberal voter. Very interesting. -

The issue of John Kerry:

Scammers couldn't figure out what I was selling!
I had an interesting encounter with this sort of scam. I was selling my folding kayak (yes, a kayak that fits into a backpack!), and advertised in various online classified ads (not eBay, though). About half of the email inquiries that I received involved the buyer having some client (of the buyer) send me money in the form of a "casshier's check in united states of american". But it was too much money, see, so if I could just send him the excess with my kayak that I was selling.
Now, one or maybe two such email messages I can accept as possibly genuine, but not half a dozen of them, all with atrocious grammatical errors. Here's a sample:
I came accros your ad and i am really intreted in geting it. So i will want you to pls email me if it is still available. And also tell me its present condition. Also send me the pics if it is available and give me your last price. Also i will want you to know that my mode of payment is with a certified chasiers check which i believe is the best way of payment. If you are ok with that you can get back to me so that we can conclude on payment.
So, I decided to have some fun with a scammer or two.
First, the email mentions "last price" which seems to refer to an auction where the price is always changing, but I had never advertised on eBay or such. So I simply replied, "Well, the price is just as advertised --what price did you see on the ad? Because if it's wrong, I have to change it." Well, none of the three or four scammers (I quit after the fourth one) would state the price. I have no doubt they just got some computer script to cull the web for ads and mass-mail all of them. They probably do it with some MS Word macro or something.
Second, I advertised my folding kayaks on a web site for folding kayaks, so I didn't actually put "folding kayak" in the ad. It was obvious that none of the scammers had any idea what I was actually selling. So I replied in my email that I wanted to make sure they knew how to use the item. How far had they gone in one? Any problems with rolling? ("Rolling" refers to the spectacular technique where, when you're upside-down in the water in a capsized kayak, you can heave yourself out of the water and flip back upright while remaining seated in the canoe at all times.) Of course, I deliberately refrained from revealing what the item was; they had no idea that "the item" was something you travelled in, much less know what I meant by "rolling", and their cluelessness in their responses was laughable.
Every time they would respond asking me for my address and phone, and every time I would insist that they answer my questions about the price and whether they knew how to use "the item". It was great for laughs. After a while, I got bored and stopped. But, boy, lots of potential for mischief there.
As an aside, I was trying to figure out how to ship my kayak to an honest buyer who would send me the money. Some people suggested escrow.com, but I came up with another plan: I would ship the buyer everything except one or two crucial pieces. I would ship the kayak minus the crucial piece, and then wait for payment, and then ship the crucial piece. Before I received payment, the kayak and the crucial piece were equally useless to the buyer and myself, so both of us would be motivated to honestly complete the transaction. As it turned out, I sold to someone who could physically come to my home to pick up the canoe and give me cash, so my scheme was never needed.

It looks like the patterns made it into the Coral cache before Dremel melted:

Alas, not all of the actual PDFs seem to be cached, but some of them are. -

Re:Stupid.
Nice to know that "looking good to the rest of the world" isn't a priority for one of the candidates.
For the dumb one. Foreign policy is pretty central to the President's job, and having little or no sympathy out here makes it very difficult to do the job properly. As we've seen by the disastrous results thus far.
I'm not sure, but I would guess that the majority of absentee voters are military
As one of millions of non-military overseas absentee voters, I can confirm that you have guessed incorrectly.
Also, pretty much every overseas American I've ever met who was not in the military was a Democrat (or, if they'd never registered, they leaned much more closely with Democratic than Republican politics).
But of course there's always this: http://www.georgewbush.com.nyud.net:8090/. And when that stops working, 'ssh -D' - no chance they're stopping that.

Though I've never felt the need to visit Bush's re-election website, it seems to be quite available through Coral even for us europeans. Dog slow, though.

GWTW .nyud.net linkThe threat is being made because Project Gutenberg of Australia (link not provided) has the digital text version of GWTW on its server
You'll find the illegal contraband on this page.
And here are some nyud.net cachelinks to the ebook in question:
Margaret MITCHELL (1900-1949)
Please spread this work far and wide. Also remember that this is the same greedy estate that killed off a great derivative work entitled The Wind Done Gone . This sort of extreme Intellectual Property protectionism is counter-productive to the intent of copyright, and we must put a stop to it.

Re:Mozilla tool to make it truly the default brows
Don't joke...
There is a binary replacement for the IE ActiveX control, which will "replace" the control with one built from the Mozilla source.
In my testing (minimal) it seems to work reasonably well...
Scarily enough, the person doing it has also provided a tool to modify existing binaries to use this control rather than the IE one... I haven't tried it personally, but looks... interesting.

What's up with all the broken Coral cache links?
All the links in the story end in ".nyud.net:8090", in an attempt to use Coral. The problem is, that is appended after everything else, which makes it irrelevant.
Remember, its:

not
http://hostname.com/rest/of/uri?whateve r.nyud.net: 8090
Strangely enough, in this case all the links seem to work faster than their coral counterparts.

Why do we need another BC game? I mean, it's been done to perfection already.

It's a coral cache link (to be nice) ... so you whiners that can't get to port 8090 need to figure out what to do to get there. It's not that hard.

Re:Is it an open protocol? They apparently already have some problems with GPL compliance. They are distributing binaries of a tool called Rateless Copy which they state uses the GPLed libAsync library under their own license while promising to deliver source code under the GPL "soon".
Don't get me wrong, I think they mean well, but they are trying to prohibit commercial use of GPL-linked works. Nobody said the GPL was always friendly to your business plan, but you can either take it or leave it, not have it both ways. I know one of the founders of this company, Chris Coyne - he used to regularly come to my parties in college. Nice guys, and I am sure they mean well. They could use some serious guidance though on licensing and IP issues, not to mention trying to make a viable business out of network software, which is a tough proposition in itself.
Feel free to contact me if you need help guys. :) -

What Next?
I know this is Slashdot, but these piracies are really hurting. I don't know about the financial aspect of things, but a lot of programmers worked really hard for this, and stealing the program just takes the shine out of all the work they put into it.
We hate licensing and the such, but how far away are we from USB dongles?

Re:Multitasking OS
I'm rather looking forward to the new Amiga [...]
There is no "new Amiga". That's one of the points with AmigaOS4 and beyond. The "Micro Amigaone" mentioned in the article is another name for the Teron Mini from MAI.
It's just that we're forced to pretend that there will be "Amiga hardware". Of course this will kill AmigaOS and makes the whole project a waste of time, but at least the proud tradition of utter incompetence and mismanagement throughout Amiga history has survived. -
