1 car = lots of publicityDaidone certainly got his money worth paying with a car. Look at all the publicity. I wonder if his web traffic grew 100%, 200%, or 1000%. The kid should get a job at Apple after he finishes school. Move from hardware/sofware hacker to engineer. Go George, go.

looks like an iPhoneLooks like an iPhone but won't work like an iPhone. There is a simplicity to Apple's iPhone design that gives you the impression that its easy to copy. Copying a feature here or there is not the way to copy the iPhone (which is more than a sum of its part or UI elements). Man I love my iPhone. Who can improve on it... Apple. Period.

thinkpads vs macbooksDoes anyone hate the macbook trackpad only option? I used to have a thinkpad and they had that cool mouse pointer stuffed in the keyboard between the G and H. Friends of mine called that by a name of the female anatomy. In any event, the mouse pointer works a hell lot better than the silly trackpad.

unlockedApple can stop this if they rev their software. Imagine what would happen if the next iPhone update undoes your unlock!
Its not like T-Mobile will complain if they suddenly get a new iPhone subscriber!

too manymaybe Linux on the Desktop has failed because no one cares. I mean take Vista or Mac OS and really (for 95% of people) its pretty much the same. Vista is "required" because Office is required in business. Desktop OS's come with 99.9% of PC are less-than-noticeable cost to consumers.
A new desktop that someone will care about has to be as revolutionary as the Mac was in 1984. When that comes along, when its a game changer, people will notice until then yawn.

makes no sense
This makes no sense whatsoever. Conspiracy theory is the sophistication of the ignorant.

more data please
Wouldn't it be nice if we could get more data on these security breeches? The articles are so lite weight. What technique? What data? I think the more we learn about these problems, the more bullet proof we can make our systems. We are at a disadvantage in that the criminal understands the vulnerability and can exploit it over and over again.

wireless chipset
i doubt any of this is in software these days. this has got to be an ARP storm taking down the receivers (essentially DOS "attack"). what part of the firmware does ARP requests? is the ethernet stuff built into the wireless chip(s)? does anyone know what wireless chip/chipset is in the iphone?

America the fat
Did you ever think that Starbucks is chiefly purveyor of sugar not coffee? The caloric content of their drinks is off the charts. America is fat because of cheap sugar and sugar is in everything. Even your coffee shop sells sugar and lots of it.

CS or IT?
How about this simple question: what do you like to do? Do you like programming/software development or system admin/management stuff? I am in IT but with a class computer science background. Which I find useful. I think IT is easier to "pick up" while class computer science is better learned in school. Most IT guys, from a programming perspective, are more hackers because they lack the computer science background. A good percentage would know a tree from a linked list if it hit them over the head. And that's not a good thing.

Re:Great publicity stunt
Your comments are right on. Yea, like its harder to install almost any version of Windows vs. any single router. Nice point of the use of the word "radio".
Do 75 year old women surf the net for porn? If so, she might have her first application for her high-bandwidth connection! LOL!

Re:Don't do that
I agree. Tailor your resume towards the job you are seeking. Its fine to describe your skills, but its better to focus on what you've done. Good luck.

Re:Buy now...
Exactly. I've got dozen of friends who constantly avoid buying because they fear getting "burned" by a future release. One in particular has used this arguement for 10 years in regard to a PC, so he doesn't have one. I don't think there is a perfect strategy, but waiting until you are dead isn't a great alternative. BTW, I love my iPhone and I will gladly buy the next version if I find it more useful or better...

Re: proprietary parts
I agree with you on this. There are proprietary parts for nearly every gadget we use these days. I have lost many power supply units over the years... and I have been forced to buy proprietary replacements each time. As I wait for my Apple iphone to be delivered (I purchased off the Apple Online Store) I know I will confront many additional expenses as I use it over the years. KCAir at http://personafile.com/

battery policy
I sure hope Apple review's this policy. Its unacceptable, frankly. This is how Apple has behaved for years. Why are they given a pass? Or are they?

Re:let's assume a 10% profit margin
re: Newton investment. did you know that Apple invested less than $20M in ARM and made over $800M in ARM stock? the $800 well covered the investment in Newton.

Re:Apple ends up looking bad (er, less than great)
The AT&T store in my neighborhood (Brick, NJ)... the one on Chambers Bridge Rd. started selling them at 5pm. The line was long and I guess they figured no one would know. I came back after dinner and walked right in to pick up a 4gb unit. Here's something else... how did the guys at Personafile have the products in their database with model number BEFORE 6pm? I saw their listings at noon on Friday.
