Re:The Bat-Bike
From some of the view pages:
This picture was also thought to be the Bat-Bike
The new bat-bike?Some super-big pictures:
A light review
CHRISTIAN BALE was banned from riding Batman's hi-tech motorbike on the set of The Dark Knight - because the producers considered it too dangerous. The actor said: "Embarrassingly, I didn't get to ride it. There are other motorbikes in the film that I got to burn about on, but not the Batpod - it was deemed too dangerous; they needed me in one piece to finish the damn movie."
Bale says a stunt rider took his place in scenes involving the Batpod in case the actor came off it and injured himself. The machine - described as a steamroller combined with a motorbike and atomic missile - is the caped crusader's latest gadget.
He said the machine was so hard to handle that only one stuntman on the set could ride it without falling off. But he is determined to master the Batpod before the film has its world premiere in New York on July 14.
"I've asked the producers if I can have a go on it before the premiere, so that I really can ride it before I get asked any more of these questions - you can't be Batman and not have been on the bloody Bat bike!"
The Dark Knight is released in the US on July 18 and in the UK on July 25.

Re:Rated G!
I thought Wall.E really caught the appearance of an 1970's sci-fi. A cross between V.I.N.CENT from "The Black Hole", E.T. , and the two robots from Logan's Run, and Short Circuit (not really 1970's though

Racers look like the Swordfish from Cowboy Bebop
Looking at the videos, does anyone notice the racers resemble the Swordfish II from Cowboy Bebop? (Follow the link below if you don't know wtf i'm talking about)
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/PetarB/Sideup.jpg
Maybe it's not a 100% match, but it's sort of interesting how the designers of Bebop knew that a rocket propelled plane would have to have a mid cantelliver wing design, with the wings being mounted to the rear of the craft with little to no delta sweeping.

How's that unicornitopia working out for you?
I'm rather impressed that you can inveigh against profligate spending and support infinite imperial military ventures overseas under the "libertarian" banner. (Please drop the figleaf of concern over human rights. It's gone past laughable at this point and straight into grotesque.) And also that you can pretend that the unprovoked and murderous invasion of another country is going to "reduce spending".
Also, unless you're making over $225k per year, you'll do better tax-wise under Obama than McCain. (Source.) But, I mean, if you want to shill for rich people to keep more of their money, that's fine. You should just be a bit more honest about it.
Remember, kids, it's strong-jawed libertarianism when rich people get their taxes cut, but it's "shiny candy from the government" for the rest of us.

Re:Some data 4 U
There are other services provided such as email, etc that one must account for. Now you can't say, but there are free services, although that is true, but those come at a cost of ads, etc; Also, $600 and $50 are far cries from each other. VZ, and the gang are selling the service of partitioning off these services. Are they gouging? Without a doubt. But is a 1-to-1 ratio of bytes to dollars fair, no? In a sane market, you would probably see a ratio 10-to-1 or even higher for this service. Buying in bulk will always be better. And the only way to make these markets sane is to have truly open access to pipes to competitors. What the cable cos do and VZ does with DSL (not fiber remember is a travesty). And to suggest the market will work this out without line sharing, is to suggest this is what our neighborhoods should look like... http://media.npr.org/programs/day/features/2006/aug/xeni_himalayas/3/main4_lg.jpg and http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e210/kapson/1106/07/1.jpg

The second window isn't so bad. Not to mention, comparing the two practices are more and less apples and oranges. What we're really comparing is how the browsers make themselves the default. Safari asks at startup if you would like it to be default, and never a moment sooner, which is exactly the same behavior as Firefox 2.0. Firefox 3 simply changes the behavior to during install, which is probably not a huge deal.

installation (and 'since correctly changed'?)
"the installation now has a checkbox that defaults to making Firefox your default browser"
It's an installation of a browser. Why would you -not-
1. Offer the option to make it the default browser
and
2. Have that option pre-selected.
I would expect a browser to do this. I would expect an image viewer to present me with the option to change image file associations and have those checked by default, a music player to associate MP3s, etc. -On installation-.
I don't want this happening when you simply start the application (I'm looking at you, Outlook).

Re:Disturbed by the landing?Yes; however (a) these are pulsed thrusters, with a very low (individual) power output, as thrusters go; (b) vertical vector velocity at touchdown is roughly 5mph, and (c) the thrusters cut out instantly at touchdown.
What does seem to have happened, interestingly, is that the upper couple of centimetres of dustry regolith has been blown clear in a big patch directly below the lander. The arm is designed to be able to reach down and image the underside (so that they can be sure all three landing pads are stable enough to risk moving the arm out to the side, potentially tipping the vehicle over if it were perched on a rock or something). That picture was taken with the (small) camera on the end of the arm, which is primarily intended to image the contents of the scoop as it digs. And oh look, that looks exactly like a big patch of ice!
:)That's a hell of cool image, but it's not going to be on posters on larval geeks bedroom walls for decades to come the way that the big HiRISE shot of the lander and it's parachute in flight, with Heimdal Crater in the background. That is a work of art. I can't understand why it wasn't on all the front pages the next day

Re:Message to people who gripe about interfaces
I think you're right, although my reasoning is slightly different.
Comparing 3DsMax and Blender: the basis behind why I prefer Blender is that it's faster to use.
Now you might think this is something that's arguable, but no, not quite. Just like you wouldn't try to argue that a person can outrun a car at full speed, you can't argue that using the 3DsMax interface is faster than using Blender's.
More intuitive? Maybe, how intuitive something is depends on who you are, what you know, where you've been, from how high you have been dropped on your head as a kid etc...
Intuitiveness is so vague and different for each person it's not even worth bothering to argue about it.
I got some screenshots here I took a while ago comparing Blender to 3DsMax, now I haven't used Max for as long as I have Blender and there may very well be some hidden functionality I haven't found, or some plugin that oils this rusty old program. Either way this is why Blender is faster than Max (from the perspective I had at the time)

Hi, I'm a Mac
You have to promise to get rid of the link to that scary, scary picture in your .sig first!!!! -
the Candidates are facing Bigger Problems.Oil production peaked in 2005. The USA decided stealing oil was a better idea than buying it, so they invaded Iraq, and that took 112 billion barrels off the market, so as it comes on tap, the plateau of production would remain longer.
In the meantime, the current administration let the nutty banking policies developed under Clinton's watch to http://www.usa-foreclosure.com/">fester and metasticise, and now the country's technically insolvent.
As a consequence, I think putting people in space is going to be seriously backburnered, and I would humbly submit that the majority of people who will ever be in space have already gone.
I'm not happy about that - I would love to go put bases on the moon to harvest He3 and do all that kind of groovy stuff, but I think we shot our wad, and pissed away the resources on crap like highways for Cadillac Escalades and useless cities like Las Vegas. We had our chance, and we blew it.

Re:Actually...
Fuck off. As stated, requesting a citation for claims is not trolling. It's an attempt to verify.
Guess what? It's only a motion to discredit it if it isn't credible. If it is actually credible, an attempt at verification will only be met with verification, so if someone's agenda is to mar the credibility of a truthful claim, asking that the proof be provided would be just about the stupidest fucking thing that person could do, because it will only result in that person's claims being displayed as truthful.
Further, this is slashdot. Far be it from the GP to assume that someone belonging to the target demographic of this site could accomplish a trivial task that non-technical users manage to do all the fucking time.
To hold the hand of the person who made the original claim, lest you believe that I, too, am "trolling" by asking that claims be verified, screenshots can go to any number of image hosting websites, like photobucket. Documents and images alike can be uploaded to wikitrith, whose express purpose is for material like this. Links to the diffs containing the edits that are the topic of discussion require virtually no effort.
Once again, Moryath, in case you've forgotten, fuck off with your ridiculous accusations of trolling.
