Re:Man, I dunno.
You need the Session Saver extension for Firefox. I got sick and tired of listening to my wife whine "Where did it all go now? I just closed the tab!" No...you closed the application.
Now, she just re-opens Firefox and it is all back -- half completed forms and all.

Re:More appropriate as an extension?
Let's have some other basic IE features that are more lightweight (a few lines of code, by comparison) built in, then -- such as Clone Window. As optional features, of course, but it'd help people switching who aren't techy and don't understand why they've "lost" functionality.

Quit your whining and just back them up. http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/#bb

Re:illegal operation!
Yeah, I hated that.
Just set the browser.xul.error_pages.enabled to true in about:config and install the Show Failed URL extension.
I'm still annoyed by the login dialog in Firefox though. Why can't I switch tabs when I have to log in in only one of them? -

Re:Uhh... what?
"Another thing that aggravates me is when I'll open a bunch of links in separate tabs to read in a few moments, then 2 minutes later a window pops up saying the server couldn't be reached. But when I go over to the tab, the url bar is blank, so I have no idea which links I clicked on that couldn't be reached."
Pike's Show Failed URL will take care of that.
http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/?extension=sfu
1. install the extension
2. Type about:config in the addess bar
3. in the filter type xul
4. double click on browser.xul.error_pages.enabled to change to true
5. restart Firefox -
Re:It is kind of sad...
- worst bug I stumbled upon twice: if you happen to hard-reset a comp with FF open you may lose all your bookmarks.
While this isn't an actual fix, this will help prevent that from happening:
Bookmark Backup
- FF wants to save everything in same directory. How about remembering where I last saved pics, html or zip/tar files? How about title of document becoming saved file name? msie is a bit better about that.
The last I checked Firefox DOES do that. It just isn't the default setting.
Go to Options->Downloads. Once there, select "Ask me where to save every file." This should produce similar behavior to IE. -
Re:For Version 1.0.4 PLEASE
I'm not sure when/if the patch is going to make it into a release, but until it does, you can just use the extension from here:
Show Failed URL
Hope this helps. -
Re:3 things from galeon I miss in firefox
I'm not sure what you mean exactly by #1, but #3 is available via extensions like Session Saver or Crash Recovery or by bookmarking groups of tabs. #4 is also available as an extension called FlashBlock.

Re:I hope they improve on the Mac version
See bug 216466 on bugzilla.mozilla.org (no link because I'm assuming preventing
/. referers means they don't like people to link to them from /.). Please don't comment on the bug unless you are helping to fix it (in terms of code, since it looks like the problem is pretty well defined at this point).
You can go to about:config and set browser.xul.error_pages.enabled to true, but it's buggy. Hence why it's off by default. Partial workaround extension. -
Re:REQ: block flash / show url for failed page loa
2. show the url in the location bar for web pages that fail to load
Try this extension. -
Re:Strange how often it works out that way
http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/#bb Bookmark Backup is your friend. You can configure it to copy the bookmarks to any directory you want.

Re:The No.1 feature I want in Firefox
There is a solution to the second problem: http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/
It reloads the pages from when you closed it. I haven't test the new version, but it's supposed to have crash recovery now.

SessionSaver
And the most useful extension, SessionSaver, still isn't available for 1.0. The old version, if you can still find it, mostly works okay though. A site to grab it from is here. I hear a rumor that there's a SessionSaverPlus in the works which will fully work with 1.0, but I haven't seen any code yet. Any news on this?

Re:firefox 1.0 installer overwrote my bookmarks
Ouch, nasty. One more reason to use Bookmark Backup, which backs up your bookmarks in a separate directory under your profile directory.
ObSlashdotDisclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with whoever it is who made BB. Good work, though :)

Re:To Really Speed FireFox/Mozilla Up
If you diable the popup boxes, then the url gets changes into some monster
Not if you install show failed url -
Clarification
Just as a note, Flash Click To View is now known as FlashBlock.
Now there's good news and bad news about it. The bad news is, it hasn't been updated for v0.9. The good news is, it still works with 0.9 flawlessly (i'm running it right now). The only problem is it won't show up in your extensions menu, so disabling or removing it could be a pain.
Now I say could be, because if you grab a little gadget known as Show Old Extensions, FlashBlock and any other pre-0.9 extensions you have installed will appear in the extension menu just like magic (cue angels singing). Hurray!
Gotta love open source communities. Solutions for everything! :) -
Re:IE
It doesn't normally (the default is to just open your homepage), but you can make it clone the window using this extension.
-
Re:Nowhere near finished, but due out soon?
There is an extension, named Show Old Extensions, that allow you to reveal 'old' extensions in the new Extension Manager, and in the latest version (0.13) is supposed to show old themes as well. Discussion is here on Mozillazine.

Re:error pages
Also, because of bug 157004 Use original URL in history and URL bar when an error page is generated
You need the Show Failed URL extension. -
Re:Mozilla Goals
One of my pet peeves with Firefox (and there aren't many) is that opening a new window, tab, etc, means starting with a clean history. Maybe nice for some, but I'd like a trail of what I did up to opening that window.
Perhaps this will help you? -

Re:My review of Mozilla FirefoxAnd after you've set browser.xul.error_pages.enabled to "true," you should install the Show Failed URL extension so that the URL for the failed page will show in the address bar.
I really do wish this behavior would become default behavior soon, and I also wish that error page would get a makeover. This seems like a pretty big usability issue to me; I'm not sure why it hasn't received much attention from the developers.
That said, I'm very happy with the 0.8 release!

Re:No crashes here. Never!
And finally, I love that I can close opera and start it later and have all my open webpages restored. No need to temporary bookmarks. Couldn't find this mozilla.
There is an extension that'll do this for FireFox (not sure about Mozilla) called Session Saver -
