Historic Bungie games still going
You can download Marathon Aleph One for free, the FPS predecessor of Halo.
And you can still play Myth II online for free (serial number not needed if you forgot yours). -
Other Bungie games
Don't forget also by Bungie Myth: The Fallen Lords. It also has a great storyline, but unlike Marathon its gameplay is very different from any other game ever made, there is really nothing else like it.
By the way you can still play Myth II online. -
Re:No one mentions Myth?
You can still play Myths 1, 2 and 3 online.

Any Myth Series Game
You could play any of the Myth series of RTS games. Each game lasts between 7 and 10 minutes so you could easily do two or three games during your lunch hour. You can also play via your intranet or via the fan-supported online game server PlayMyth.net
.
Plus, these games will easily run as they're several years old. (Myth TFL is 1997, Myth II is 1998 and Myth III is 2001). -
Re:an educated guess
god, i miss Myth so bad
Then go play Myth. You can still play it online, no serial number required anymore. It has even been updated. -
Re:Well at least he has a good point.

Re:Consumer rights...
An excellent point. Valve doesn't have to provide us with a multiplayer network, and many devs drop support a few years after the game has been released.
Look at the Myth series, bungie.net was taken down a short while after Microsoft bought bungie. Sure, a couple third party networks have sprung up in the community (Marius Net and Play Myth) but the game is not longer officially supported and thus the communities no longer grow.
Valve could have left HL 1 for dead after 6 years of support, and I don't think gamers could argue they had no right to do so. Ultimately, the HLDS system costs valve money, no way to force them to keep paying it well after the game has passed its prime.. -
Re: Myth-TFL online play ceased to exist..
There are a couple of free online servers for it now checkout: http://www.playmyth.net/

Re:This is great news.
Your link is one year old and discusses the 1.4 patch.
Hop onto playmyth.net, and you'll see that 1.5 shipped just a few days ago. So the development is still very active on Myth II as well. -
Previous Bungie games, still alive

Myth???
You completely left out the Myth series in your history of bungie! IMO Myth is easily the best RTS game I've ever played, focusing more on actual strategy using landforms and unit formations than resource gathering. Numerous mods and complete conversions have been released for Myth II and while Bungie no longer supports the game, popular fan run servers Play Myth and Marius Net still host mulitiplayer games, and Project Magma is still updating the game with bug fixes and enhancments in patches. Bungie actually forfeited the Myth franchise to Take2 during the Microsoft buy-out, much to the shagrin of us Myth fans, alas Myth III just doesn't have the same bite as the two previous titles. Don't forget this once great Bungie series in a history of the company!
