This is a good question. I've had a similar situation once, when a friend of mine has told my wife that he finds me attractive but he doesn't want to ruin our friendship. So instead of telling you what I would do, I'll tell you what I have done. I told him that indeed he will never consummate this love, nor would he ever consummate any homosexual love at all if he wants to go to Heaven, and I as his friend would not want him to go to hell. I pointed him here. It's a homosexual page of a web site devoted to helping people fight with their impure desires and sinful lust. Today, he is regularly participating in a support group meetings. It is extremely hard for him to avoid any sex and masturbation and he doesn't love any woman and says he never will so he'll probably never have a wife. He thinks about getting medication to lower the level of testosterone so he won't feel any lust at all. I'm really glad that he is so strong in his fight with his lust. He's a good friend of mine and I want to meet him in Heaven some day. Does it answer your question?

Also, my "Freedom is not the goal" statement was incomplete in my limited time to reply. I mean that it is not the ultimate goal. Freedom of course is a goal but the bigger goals are making the best choices with the freedom. Freedom is abused when it's used to hurt others.

Actually, the results of obscenity pollution are also a matter of verifiable objective fact. The 'prima facie' evidence for it can be ascertained by the instruments of your brain and senses. However it depends on how sensitively they are tuned or if they have "reception" trouble in picking up the signals due to neglect or abuse.

You can become desensitized to obscenity pollution just like your pain nerves can be become desensitized through anesthesia.

If you expose yourself to porn you anesthesize some of these natural senses. Yes, it can seem like its enhancing another sense by giving you a high similar to a narcotic but then it leaves you feeling numb as an after-effect.

So the effects of obscenity pollution are definitely real and objectively verifiable. It just depends on whether you choose to be "awake" or not and treat your "conscience" sense in a healthy manner by feeding it good content and not a diet of obscenity.

However you can continue to keep those part of your senses asleep and then be like the people in The Matrix.

Or you can choose to wake up and look at all the facts. Don't be afraid. Which one will it be for you? The "blue pill" or the "red pill"?

The facts that pornography causes damage to the viewer -- are all in the real world. No amount of wishing or denial will make them go away.

Get a clue. Christianity states that sex is a good thing, and that reproducing is a desire of God. Christianity also states, however, that you are NEVER permitted to sleep with the wife of another man. When you have sex, it is not just a physical thing, but a spiritual binding - "the two become one flesh". This is through the act of sex. Therefore, when a man has sex with a woman who has been with another man, they both commit adultery. There is nothing wrong with sex - you set up a strawman then attack it. The problem is in improper use of it. I don't care what you say - the thought of a man recording his wife (as I heard in one case) act in sex scenes makes me sick and angry.

The whole porn industry in general makes me angry - a comment which is bound to displease many slashdotters, as I know how popular pornography is. After seeing how immoral it is, I cannot say anything good about it. I saw the deception and manipulation that is involved in getting these women involved in acts of depravity they would never normally agree with.

But I just had to counter your point. The objections to pornography are nothing to do with thinking sex is evil. Sex should never be a public thing. Sex should never involve multiple men. It should never involve having sex with another man's wife. It is an evil institution that damages the lives of people who participate in it, and those who view it. Unfortunately a transcript for a story I viewed went into detail on this, but is now not available for viewing by the public. So here is a smaller list of reasons why porn is bad for the viewer.

Of course, when one believes that humans are nothing more than animals, I can offer no argument directly against pornography. But you used the words "created", so you must have some belief in the divine. How many of you porn supporters can honestly say you'd be pleased if your daughter became a porn star, having sex with many different men in her life, for thousands of other men to view?

I can't see anything laudable, praisworthy, edifying, good, or righteous about pornography. I see instead addiction, obsession, lust, debauchery, insecurity, adultery, betrayel.

Why does it matter if the source is open? The article should be talking about software developed by a team of individuales (including OSS) vs. software by one individual. If the source is open, there may be additional people looking at the sourcecode, but if there are many contributors the source may be a big mess of 50 different coding styles.
