nobody is removing projects or any IP from Github
In this specific instance perhaps, but I wouldn't say nobody. Remember Popcorn Time?

Re:Why stop with rides?
Interesting thing about the US. We really do force the construction trades to be licensed, bonded, insured.
In much of the USA it is common to drop by Home Depot and pickup Hispanic day laborers for your construction project. Some articles about it:

Elon Musk on RedditReposting my comment from 2 stories ago...
.Elon Musk just did an AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit. Here's one Q/A.
Mr Musk, How will you secure the first stage of the Falcon 9 to the barge when it lands? Gravity or some mechanism? REPLY [–]ElonMuskOfficial " Mostly gravity. The center of gravity is pretty low for the booster, as all the engines and residual propellant is at the bottom. We are going to weld steel shoes over the landing feet as a precautionary measure." http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/c...

Gamergate is Worthier, and the Editors Know It
Nah, Sarkeesian was a hack before the whole gamer gate thing even started.
Gamergate itself has clearly done more good than Sarkeesian ever hoped to.
It exposed nepotism and collusion in games journalism.
It got Brad Wardell (CEO of Stardock) some long-overdue apologies for hit pieces run against him.

Oh, you didn't hear about that? Well, I guess the same corrupt media (and the mainstream media, in turn) didn't report it, so, like whoever's in charge of Slashdot, we should pretend it never happened. You know, the same way we pretend that Snowden did no good because the corrupt NSA (and the Executive and Congress in turn) never acknowledged it.
And it's forcing Gawker to revise its policies to comply with updated FTC guidelines, which the FTC acknowledges came about because of Gamergate's OperationUV.
Damn, look at all these journalists, forced to be ethical against their will. If the media ever covers it, they'll probably invent some new term for the headlines, like "Ethics Rape." -

Define push, and further define the evidence you are willing to accept. It is out there. I don't argue that women are by and large the teachers. The unfairly treated comment is a straw man.
The question is about comp sci, and whether it is controlled by a gender. Not, as far as I can see, about education in general.
I have shown you, as you could equally discover, a push for more men in teaching. It is ineffective. How are boys demanded to conform to a feminised system?

And in other news: Pharmacist complaints.DUIs kill innocent people, so I'd say "Karma's a bitch". Pharmacists can also kill people if they fill prescriptions wrong -- or just fill a wrong prescription -- so I'm more upset reading what some chain pharmacists have to say (in that same thread) about how they're told to 'do' their job by beancounters.
People can die, end up in Intensive care or just plain psychotic as a result of a prescription mix-up. Pharmacists are the last line of defense against that happening. When a pharmacist is forced to fill prescriptions on very tight time limits, they stop being a line of defense against such problems and really end up being a potential source of problems on their own. Pharmacists are a profession for a reason -- turning them into pill-counters is a recipe for death and disaster.

I read a horrific post about this on Reddit
A couple of days ago, someone posted on a reddit thread about the horrible pitfalls of having one of these and dealing with all the problems they bring. I understand DUI is a very serious issue, but if the claims this guy makes are true then the way interlock service companies are run are also outrageous:

Under any other circumstance it seems he would be pursuing a career in alchemy.
He did say that he might have pursued physics if he didn't end up in computer science.
So in other words, he might have wound up completely penniless if not for the vast family fortune he was already born with?
(I say this as a former physicist who transitioned into computer science for the better lifestyle. I now work 1/3 as hard as I did as a(n eternal) post-doc for 5 times the pay.) -

Re:make it easy!
That is the reason why systemd becomes entrenched: Developers like it and start to depend on it since it makes their live easier.
Which is very debatable, if not just laughable.
Systemd is Microsoft Event Viewer and data store for GNU/Linux. We do not want binary logs. If an operating system requires more than a text editor to view log files, there is a problem with the operating system and/or the log files. As an GNU/Linux since 1992 when SLS was "the distribution of choice" the current trend with the Debian GNU/Linux Project baffles my mind. What happened to the vision Deborah and Ian conceived so many year ago?

Re:Fuck what Harrison Ford says
I don't know about that. Reading the Reddit AMA with Harrison Ford, it seems he enjoys making films that entertain people.
He also isn't terribly sentimental or nostalgic. He doesn't own many props from the films he's been in and the berevitiy of some of his scenes ("I love you", "I know" and shooting the swordsman in the first Indiana Jones) seems to be directly tied to Harrison Ford cutting through the bullshit and getting to the point. I wouldn't say he's a phony, he's just not into all the fluff surrounding his characters and I think that's what actually draws people to his performance.
e.g. Our intro to him in Star Wars is a business deal, followed by shooting an alien that talks too much. That's Harrison Ford. That's what he does, that's why people like him and that's why Han Solo saying "May the force be with you" is such a big deal; Han Solo (and Harrison Ford) do not care about the mythos and the jargon while everyone else is falling head over heels for it.
In that regard, he's probably one of the most authentic actors in Holly Wood.

Care about Microsoft? Arrange better management.
CrankyFool,
Someone who genuinely cares about Microsoft will want Microsoft to examine its behavior as a corporation. The recent release of Windows 8 got very bad press. For example: [Serious] Users of Windows 8, is it really as bad as everyone says it is?
Because Microsoft has a "virtual monopoly", Microsoft still sold many copies. Eventually, however, people will find a way to navigate around Microsoft's craziness. Here is just one of many, many examples. Quoting:
There is so much going on that screams the fact that they didn't have the average Joe sitting in a Microsoft UX lab doing simple tasks such as: "Shut down the system" or "Uninstall software you haven't used in a while" and so much more.
'They tried to force a revolutionary new UI onto the mainstream users. And I love their design, I really do, but it simply doesn't offer any benefits to daily power users such as myself. On the contrary, it annoys me because it has such potential, and they implemented a half-decent version of what it could and should be.
I think that because I attempt to understand Microsoft, I am more caring toward the company than those who merely make negative comments about criticism of Microsoft.
As I said in my grandparent comment, Microsoft has been releasing unfinished products for many years: "... they implemented a half-decent version of what it could and should be." That abusive behavior makes a huge amount of money because there are so many non-technical users who don't know how to defend themselves.
Now Google's Android, a derivative of Linux, is beginning to take people away from Microsoft's operating system products. -

Time has changed the Big Picture
But you yourself are constantly going on about how there aren't very many couch co-op games for the PC!
That I was, past tense. But according to Slashdot users hairyfeet, nschubach, Pubstar, and others, as well as Anonymous Cowards, the situation has changed. Valve has done much to promote this sort of stuff on Steam in preparation for the Steam Machine, even though it's dragging its feet on the actual Steam Machine hardware. This includes Big Picture, a store filter for controller-friendly games, and Steam OS (a Debian derivative that boots to Big Picture). Other sites have started to list such games as well, such as Co-optimus and reddit.
If he wants to play in the living room he'd be better off with a PS4.
Choice of platform is often driven by exclusives. No upgrade will bring games to the PS4 that aren't already there or let you install mods for those games that are on PS4. PC, by contrast, has a wide selection of previous-generation games and community-made mods if you tire of the top 40.

Re:"Just pay extra..."
I have also paid for beta access.
The game is NOT fun. It's a fucking disaster.First of all, what's good: The visuals, audio, UI, graphics, etc. Everything related to how the game looks and feels is top-notch. It suckers you in that way.
What's bad: The gameplay.Oh lord the gameplay. In one word: Shallow. It's like a pile of disjointed minigames. Everything is "there" in the sense of a checkmark on a list, but it is not there in the sense of "I actually want to play this."
And the game is monetized out the ass.
For the longwinded bits, read below:
More detail:
Combat: Like your typical "spacesim", AI is easy to kill, and between players - whoever has the biggest most expensive ship is the winner. Skill doesn't enter the picture because ships are not sidegrades, they are direct upgrades. The incompetent player with 1 million credits will always beat the skilled noob in his sidewinder, no exception. The combat brings nothing new to the genre and lacks serious complexity. (They have a good idea with their stealth system, but it's tacked on rather than a core concept in dogfighting like it needs to be) In spite of all these problems, the combat is probably the best/most fleshed out portion of gameplay and the one that can be legitimately fun for awhile.Mining: In every game I have ever played, mining has been an exercise in tedium. This game is no different. You shoot an asteroid with a laser until it pops out a rock that you scoop up. Repeat ad nauseum.
Money: Get this out of the way quickly, everything you do - mining, combat, missions, trading - earns you next to nothing. To put it into perspective, the most expensive ship in the game was the Anaconda at 150 million credits (after every stage of beta they increased its price, who knows what it'll be post-launch). Your average mission earns you 15,000cr and takes about 5-30 minutes to complete. If you are extremely dedicated you could probably earn ~100,000cr/hr (more is possible with a good traderoute and a lot of cargospace, but this is hard to find now). It'll take a good year of playing multiple hours per day, to afford the most expensive ship. Then the upgrades to that ship will double or triple its cost, at the least. There were comments by Braben (co-creator) [archive link in case reddit deletes the post as they are known to do with touchy subjects] that the game is going to come with a cash shop. Considering the grind and the comment about the cash shop for credits, I can understand why they wanted to get rid of the offline singleplayer: They don't want people modding the game to get what they paid for.
Trading: It's really just hauling goods, and it's rather boring. There is a 15 minute video here which shows almost the entirety of trading gameplay. (Not including hours spent trying to find a decent traderoute) You fly back and forth, earn a few thousand credits for the trouble and that's that. There used to be a trading calculator available on the forums - you downloaded it, it would check the trade good prices wherever you docked and give you a centralized database from everyone else's information which allowed you to pick the best trade routes. People were using it to make boatloads of cash and Frontier, failing to think of a way to counter this tool by making trade interesting, instead banned it.
Exploration: You literally jump into a system and hold down a button for 5 seconds. Your ship "pings" everything nearby and if its newly discovered, it gets added to the exploration catalog and earns you 1,000-10,000cr (depending on number of planets/stars you found and only after returning to a space station). You can also fly close to the stellar object to do a detailed scan - but it takes a long time to fly around a system and the reward is peanuts. Maybe 500cr per planet. It's faster

KS terms are not relevant
A difference here is that Frontiers Developments are Europe based and bound by the consumer protections there. Things that cannot be signed away or over ridden by what KS saying in their terms.
They made a number of unambiguous statements that the mode would be available and these are almost certainly binding. Such as this 1 week before the KS closed.
https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/...That is strong grounds for a refund and they really do not want to get the consumer protection regulators involved, or generate bad will for release day reviews. The KS may have funded development, but additional sales are needed to keep the servers running and review score will decide if that happens since it is not planned to be a subscription game.
The game looks great but I will still be surprised if they are in the very small % of server based games that still have their servers online a couple of years later. -

Re:THIS is the kind of thing that GamerGate is abo
It was outraged two days ago.
Here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Kotaku...Kudos to IGN for criticizing Assassins Creed despite having advertisement for it on their site
Is the gaming media trying to hide behind the newest Assassin's Creed?
Assassin's Creed Unity press Embargo was, as expected, hiding significant performance issues on all platforms
Ubisoft make the new Assassin's creed embargo almost a full day after release (twitter.com)
Assassin's Creed Unity review copies featured no microtransactions in them whatsoever like the real game does for the public.
"I've told Ubi & will inform other PR: we won't accept a post-release embargo tied to a review copy again" -Stephen Totilo on AC:Unity
Why Assassins Creed: Unity matters to #GamerGate
On Twitter:
https://twitter.com/search?q=u...Three primary places on internet for pro gamergate info:
1. #gamergate
2. /gg/ on 8chan
3. /r/kotakuinaction on reddit.A lot of this was discussed two days ago.
It's not Gamergate responsibility to go after Ubisoft, it's the game press's. And there are plenty of pro-GG that responded favorably to Stephen Totilo pushback against the embargo.

Re:THIS is the kind of thing that GamerGate is abo
Oh you mean the article where Jimmy Wales had to step in and openly state that the article in question had no neutrality. Where he called out several senior editors for engaging in a edit war, skewing it out of neutrality. Where he had to step in to the Gamejournopros article, openly stating that there "was collusion, and at best it could be called denied not debunked." That same article, where he's now called on the pro-GG side to write their own article, because groups like project feminism and editors with no desire for objectivity have tainted the entire thing.
-
Re:THIS is the kind of thing that GamerGate is abo
You mean the gamergate guys who found the brazillian "journalist" who was attacking and doxxing anita? But she didn't want to do anything about it. Or people like geordie tait(who's anti-gg) attacking gamergate by calling for a new holocaust
Like the GG-harassment patrol which goes after anyone on both sides? Yep, nothing at all. Then again, I could ask where is the anti-side denouncing people like Briana Wu, Lee Alexander, or Mattie Brice.

Re:Additional... both sides are showing bad behavi
I haven't seen any of this; do you perhaps have a link?
easily found:
http://theralphretort.com/game...Lots of information there. They're very brazen about it because no one in the mainstream ever calls them on it.
They don't even use sock puppet accounts. They do this under their own names.
I did see that one (only once though); at least the idiot in question apologised...
They only did that when it hit mainstream and there are so many other examples of the same thing I don't know where to start.
Do you have any links about these?
KingOfPol was sent a knife in the mail
http://www.reddit.com/r/Kotaku...Milo Yiannopoulos was sent a syringe full of an unknown fluid
http://www.escapistmagazine.co...I have links for everything else if you want it. It is very easy to find if you look for it. The media is doing a complete snow job on the issue. It is so striking that we're seeing this:
http://techraptor.net/content/...
You might also find this interesting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...They're lying.
Look at this in regards to Anita:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...Then watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...That is colbert from the comedy central show basically giving her a puff piece. Now he isn't a real journalist but you can see the pervasiveness of the media blackout on the issue.
Note that comments are disabled on that video. Look at his other videos... comments are permitted.
This is what gamer gate is about to a large extent. Systematic media corruption and censorship. They're lying to everyone.
Does it matter? Is it a shit issue about a shit community that no one cares about? That is relative to you. However, they are doing it and there is nothing to stop them from doing it anywhere else.
They actually banned someone right in front of Julian Assange. Which had him join in the issue on our side as well.
Everyone that opposes, questions, or criticizes these people is labeled a bigot out of hand.
There are so many god damn links. If you are really curious, I can put you in touch with other people that will tell you themselves. No one in this is hiding. The media outright refuses to interview anyone but the anti side. And when we invite the anti side to come onto channels and talk to us they refuse.
They won't talk to us. They won't debate. They won't explain themselves.
All they do is lie, make threats, and trick idiots into backing them.

Re:Not this shit again
They've actually gotten a lot better about bring the male/female harassment ratio closer to 1:1. Here's a handy list of everyone GG has harassed so far. It's a work in progress, unfortunately. http://www.reddit.com/r/GamerG...

Re:Not again..
When journalists editorialize or propagandize, they are no longer journalists
It was *very* clear 20 years ago. The videogame 'journalists' had crap product. They were amping up games to get 3-4 page spreads for money and/or free games. They would say 9 out of 10 for a game. You would get the game and would think what sort of trash is this. Only the most obvious of crap would get a low score. We ate it up because we were young and did not know better.
http://www.metacritic.com/game...
I like to use this one as an example. The game was rather bland rushed game with some 'ok' cut scenes. However it was quite clear some people were getting paid off from advertising money from WB by the way it was hyped up. It got a mediocre score because apparently the bribe money was not washed around enough.
http://www.metacritic.com/game...
I like to use this one as a recent example. The game was 'sort of' interesting. But the gameplay was tedious and boring. The one thing which was supposed to be so good the graphics. Was extremely washed out and only good in a few key places. Not one negative review. It is bargain bin material now. I would joke with my wife 'I am going to go have tea with the girls and gossip about boys'.
So the second someone made a misogynistic remark in GG they seized upon it to make it about that. They have 0 intention of fixing their own broken legacy. They would rather fight bigotry by being bigger bigots. It is making sure the narrative is controlled by them not you.
That gawker media (the epicenter of this mess) has Jezebel amongst its properties almost ironic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J... They even deliberately use the 'modern' meaning but the ironic part is what it used to mean. They are selling us trash and lies in the name advert impressions. What is really sad is you can not tell if they are just trolling us or truly believe their own words. From what I read they are basically ripping off young people to 'give them a voice'. But they are too young to realize they are just paid (in some cases unpaid) wordsmiths by telling them what to write.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Kotaku...
What is even more sad is our politics are controlled by these *very* *same* *people*. They have 0 integrity and would sell your soul for 1 clickthru. We brought it upon ourselves with the race to the bottom with free websites with 'free' news. It is not clear paid for would be any better.

Re:You REALLY want to go down that road?
Actually there isn't evidence for the "gamergate is harassment" narrative. There IS evidence of the GNAA and other outside trolls going to the lengths of paying up to $20 for people to tweet while pretending to be part of gamergate, there IS evidence of the gamergate harassment patrol going to the lengths of tracking down the person behind much of Anita's harassment and even filing reports on him with the FBI, there ARE multiple statistical analyses empirically proving gamergate is NOT about harassment...
But there is absolutely no evidence for the conspiracy theory that tens of thousands of men, women, LGBT, and minority gamers from all over the world have banded together dedicated to the cause of driving women out of gaming by raising over $100,000 for charity... including $70,000 for feminists to get women INTO game development.
There is however a fuckton of evidence that a toxic clique of people with incestuous financial and personal ties are pushing a narrative defending themselves while rallying around someone multiple feminists have pointed out is blatantly a gaslighting domestic abuser.
Just like there's a fuckton of evidence for their vicous abusive behavior up to and including, like I said, a whole ton of doxings:
Because it's completely impossible to find out about serious criminal attacks like people getting sent dead animals without following each and every single person individually. Gotcha. If only there were websites where people talked about things that happened, all in one place.
Or even a website that lets you look for things elsewhere on the internet...

Re:Just watch one video or read one post..
This issue saddens me as does the issue of the lack of women programmers. It causes me depression and distress.
1.) I was assigned the male gender at birth.
2.) I'm in the process of building a gamer rig.
3.) I don't date women. It's not them. I just like guys.
4.) Therefore I'm a "gamer." QED.
5.) I've experienced group punishments in the past for the actions of others, because this is apparently how we deal with the actions of a few that were assigned the male gender at birth. We punish everyone assigned the male gender at birth.
In regards to #3, I've been harassed and called a misogynist. Why is that kind of homophobia acceptable?
Perhaps it's because of #5.
I'm not lucky like Harisoo or Jennifer Boylan. I don't have money raining from the sky like manna from heaven, as Boylan wrote she did in her autobiography. Gender transition is an expensive and risky process. I've helped others transition by giving them a safe space and food while between genders. They were lucky to have a friend like me I suppose, but I don't have a friend like me. I won't even have a legal female name for a while yet.
Will it happen one day that I sign on to Steam to start up a game of Civ or sign into Battle.net out of boredom to do a speed run in Diablo only to be greeted with some kind of required "sensitivity training" or some other admonishment and denial of my individuality and gender identity?
Once when I was playing Diablo, I signed on and found myself smack dab in the middle of some girl talking about her sex life in the main chat. She claimed to be a Bizzard employee with mod powers. Apparently she was reminiscing about her sexual conquests and soliciting advice about whether to get a boyfriend again. I let it go on for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, I turned off the main chat and got back to the game.
The odd thing occurred to me. My gamertag is distinctively female, and other places I usually choose a nick that is either androgynous or feminine. Why have I never experienced harassment from guys online outside of the homophobic responses when I say I only date men? Why was the only time I grew weary of somebody talking about sex, it was somebody claiming to be a cisgendered woman?
The other thing that occurred to me was a question of why these women that we're trying to protect cannot use a similar recourse when being harassed online. Is the ability to turn off different chat rooms and
/ignore other players something that is only enabled in my account because I was assigned the male gender at birth? Is it some part of male privilege of which I'm unaware?Did you read the link where one of the perpetrators was identified at all?
Here is our problem. This is why we can't stop harassment of women online, if it exists at all in general.
REACHING ANITA
:-@sanc reached out to Anita multiple times.
-I reach out to Anita days ago telling her we caught a harasser and I'd love to speak to her
-Express that I want him removed as badly as she does
-Other twitter members show support
-No response
-New tweet reaching out, please support!!! https://twitter.com/LetsSailHatan/status/527895236815888384
IMPORTANCE :-We confirmed his ID, him saying twitter threats are fake
-Multiple graphic Anita threats confirmed from one source
-Can clear GG's name of a lot twitter harassment they're blamed for
-Still waiting for recognition of receiving the info and action with the authorities
We go after an entire demographic--those assigned the male gender at birth who play video and tabletop games--, but the victim, who is the only person who has standing to take action, does not. We would rather stereotype and engage in bigotry against "males."
Once when I was little, a teacher decided to punish all assigne
