- Who is discriminating? Once again, you failed to see the point. Allow me to refresh your memory...
- All I am saying is that... many business professionals [would not] stop and give Linux a serious consideration because of the perception is that Iran is a nation of terrorists.
That is discrimination. Why would you think Iran is a nation of terrorists? Because you saw it on TV? Do you think that maybe when Arabs see Americans on TV calling them terrorists that they might think some pretty strange things about the USA? Because the reality of the situation is that the US is the aggressor in Iraq. Iraq did not fly any planes into the WTC. This war was completely unprovoked, and based on some undeniable evidence of WMD that have yet to be found. The terrorists are the ones engaging in terrorism, and I'm not talking about Iran or Iraq. -

Re:the predictable copout
is exactly WHY liberals have introduced the Draft
Actually you and your parent poster are BOTH wrong because neither S.89 or H.R.163 have anything to do with a 'draft'.
Dictionary.com: draft... "To select from a group for some usually compulsory service: drafted into the army."
This is right along the lines of the name "Selective Service", a service that is "selective" meaning you are "selected" from the population to serve in times of need.
What the above bills propose is "Mandatory Service" for EVERYONE, not "Selective" for those unfortunate enough to be chosen and/or not to have valid reasons to avoid it.
BTW -- I'm against both. :) -

Re:Pleas mod down.Huh? Boy you have some issues. Do you even know what "chauvinism" means? I don't think so. Let me give you the definition from dictionary.com
chau-vin-ism
Excatly where in my post did I show ANY of those traits? I did not. I just want to know _WHY_ in the world does the green party _think_ that I as white man who has NEVER owned a slave owe anything to a blackman? I do not support racism or slavery and would never stand for it. Yet, somehow the Green party thinks that just because I am WHITE I owe something to a person who happens to be black. That is just crazy IMO.
1. Militant devotion to and glorification of one's country; fanatical patriotism.I have several friends who just happen to have darkeer skin then me. They are all very successful and have WORKED for what they have. They ALL agree with me that no one alive today owes anyone else anything.
There is no one "holding back the black man" today. I have worked for 3 fortune 500 companies so far in my career. All three hired people based on their performance and abilities. Infact, tha current fortuen 500 that I work for has an excellent white CEO that is about to retire, and guess who is going to replace him? Yes, a black SVP. I won't give it away, but this black SVP is one excellent business man. He has top-notch ethics and knows his stuff. That is why he got the job. NOT because he just happens to have darker skin then me.

Re:Pretty cool stuff
No, that's called "Tyrrany of the Majority", one of those things too few people learn while growing up.
Isn't that what you end up with if you have raw democracy, without any safeguards anyway?
Sure, the people can vote those safeguards into place. Or they can decide not to; generally speaking, most democracies include laws safeguarding the individual to some extent, but if you accept the definition that it is rule on behalf of the people then.... democracy does not come with 'batteries included'.
Personally, I always understood democracy to mean the process of rule on behalf of the people; some of these definitions seem to imply otherwise, but aren't these idealistic and misled distortions of the original meaning? -
racismWhere do you stand on racism laws? From watching your debate it appears as if the Green Party feels that racism is when a white person is racist against a black person or when a male is racist against a female. According to dictionary.com
rac-ism
Wouldn't this mean that racism is really one race thinking they are superior to others and not just white vs. black? Exactly how would creating laws that favor blacks or women end racism?
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. -

Grandparent is valid. The definition of Porn, and by reference, Pornography, doesn't fit here. While it could be argued that a person could be sexually attracted to a computer, it still it WAY out of place. Even for you Mac fiends.

Re:Come on...
I agree that much in Star Wars is similar to Dune, but don't look too hard for similarities. The creature in RotJ is only similar to a sandworm in that it is large and has a tentacled mouth; it isn't even motile.
Also, how is Tatooine similar to Arrakis, except that it is a desert planet? Is Arizona a clone of Egypt just because they both contain desert regions? Arrakis has the spice, but Tatooine is entirely worthless.
Light sabers are entirely technological and have nothing to do with any animal. A saber is a sword, not a tooth. -
Re:No, no, no!
A geek was the person in a carnival who performed acts like biting the head off a live chicken (I guess that makes Ozzy Ozbourne and the contestants on Fear Factor modern geeks). Use of the word by techies to refer to techies is probably more like the way blacks sometimes use the word "nigger" to refer to themselves. A term intended to be derogatory by the original speakers that they made their own. I'm not as clear on the etymology of nerd, but http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=nerd again suggests that the negative connotation came first.

Re:My Point. Exactly
jeez. O.k. real slow.
What. Do. The. Following. Words. Mean. To. You. Question mark.
To me, and the rest of the English speaking world, they are defined as follows.
Muslim. Dictionary 1 Wikipedia Dictionary 2
Islam. Dictionary 1 Wikipedia Dictionary 2
Sorry, for being so vague.
My previious statment can be clarified thusly "you can't keep terms straight, and they are all synonyms (to you, as far as I can tell)." That help?
Or are you going to keep trolling (cue, 'Ha, you can't argue so you call me a troll.' (and you ignore, again, the request for you to define what you think these words mean))
O.k. now back to your clarifcication.
Probably the best way I can explain it is this: Islam is to Muslim what Protestant is to Christianity. Well that just explains that Islam is a subset of Muslim, and how much depends on who you talk to. But the main difference is that Islamists believe in a political superiority that drives a nationalistic expansion of their law to the whole world. It is the mixture of the political ambitions with the Muslim religion that makes one an Islamist.
So, what part of Islam or percentage of Muslims (Those that practice Islam) believe in nationalistic expansion? Is there another, more specific term for people that put such things into practice?
As you've pointed out, "Islam is to Muslim what Protestant is to Christianity." Except that makes no sense if you read the dictionary or Wikipedia. "Christianity is to Christian, as Islam is to Muslim" is the only thing that makes the barest sense. "Wahabbism it to Islam, as Protestant is to Christianity" would have made more sense. But again, that's just using a the wikipedia to define terms. "Many Sunni Muslims criticise Wahhabism for its lack of flexibility and general intolerance towards other religions and even towards other Muslim sects. A number of moderate Islamic groups have publicly condemned Wahhabism as being a distortion of historic Islam.
Many non-Muslim commentators refer to it as "Islamic fascism"."
So again, and I think we up to 5 requests now, what definitions do you use for these terms? How do you, personally, differentiate between those that want restore the Caliphate by force of arms and those that want to live in peace? -

Re:That's just business..
Ok, class. One more time. There is no such thing as international law.
law A rule of conduct or procedure established by custom, agreement, or authority.
The UN Charter, the Geneva Conventions and the Koyoto protocol are all international rules of conduct established by agreement, and as thus are all international law.
no country has surrendered it's sovreignty to the UN
Not entirely, but many have agreed to be bound by the UN Charter. Similarly, Texas has not completely surrendered it's soveriengty to the US, but it has agreed to be bound by the US Contitution.
Of course you may point out that the US can and/or does renege on that agreement, and with no one to stop them, does so with impunity. But just because a law can be broken by some with impunity doesn't mean that it's not a law. The eighteenth amendment was still law despite the fact that it was broken by many with no consequences.

Re:My Point. ExactlyI do not think that word means what you think it means.
Islamic
Islamic law in practice is rather bloody in its prescribed punishments.
Sharia law, when interpreted by backwoods nutjobs, is quite like that. 'Islamic' law, like that in Indonesia, isn't quite up to the barbarism you subscribe to all Muslims (note, see defintion of terms). To wit.The Indonesian legal system is based on Roman-Dutch law, modified by custom and Islamic law. Sources of law are Islamic law, statutory legislation, presidential instructions, and official compilations of Islamic law.
Go here and see how their latest elections are turning out.
As far as I'm concerned I see where he is coming from. It is a bit over-reaching but not unwarranted.
That would explain your confusion.
Islam is to Muslim what Protestant is to Christianity. But the main difference is that Islamists believe in a political superiority that drives a nationalistic expansion of their law to the whole world. It is the mixture of the political ambitions with the Muslim religion that makes one an Islamist.
Dictionary. Look into it.
Islam - A monotheistic religion characterized by the acceptance of the doctrine of submission to God and to Muhammad as the chief and last prophet of God.
Muslim - A believer in or adherent of Islam.
Islamofascist Terrorists - 'Them'.
When you start to confuse the terms, as you have done consistently throughout this conversation, you are not helping, merely expanding the number of people that must be destroyed before peace can come again.
The fact that you think "Islam" is some sort of Muslim Protestant tells me that you are quite confused about who it is you are talking about. Considering this problem in endemic nowadays (at least in my country), I can understand the problem and will give you another chance to explain yourself. -
Re:Nader is the scapegoat revenge can be taken upoI'm going to break my word and say...
playing "what ifs..." is hard and usually pointless. "What if Gore had a better campaign", "What if Gore was President on Sept 11?", "What if {blah, blah, blah}". Mostly because it's hard to understand cause and effect when talking in such broad terms. You keep saying that Nader had no effect on the 2000 election. You won't even commit to saying that there is even a chance. However, statistical analysis tells a different story. Weather forcasting, Hurricane projections, crop yield, even the amount of cereal dropped into a package are all subject to statistical analysis. It's been far too long since, I've done a proper statisical analysis of any data, but I don't believe that it takes a genius to understand that if less than one half of one percent of Florida Nader voters voted for Gore, the results would have been different. Even Nader thinks that 38% of his voters would have choosen Gore (vs. 25% for Bush and the rest non voting).
You most likely are correct that Gore could have run a better campaign, I can't say how statistically (too many variables over too long a time), but I can say that because of the small numbers, even a relatively weak third party canidate, which Nader was and is, did and does have an effect on the 2000 and the 2004 elections. It looks like it will be another 'photo-finish' election, and even a tick on one the horse's backside may decide the winner of the race.
But I am falling back to the same statements that I have gone over before. Personally, I wish that the 2000 election was McCain v. [someone else],
Your exaggeration is pathological
Wow now that's rude. What's so pathological about being worried about someone who believes that they can do no wrong because God is on their side, which is a simular view point of the madmen who attacked the WTC. Now hold it, I am not trying to make Bush into Bin Laden, there are many differences. More Google resultsReread your posts, you are in denial over Gore's failure and desparately want a scapegoat...
I don't say the Gore could have done anything differently, I dont' say that "it all Nader's fault", I believe that Gore made some serious mistakes in the 2000 election, and in hindsight he probally wasn't the best canidate in general, but that is very subjective. The only items that easily lends itself to anaylsis is the actual vote count of the election, and I believe that to ignore the results wholesale (such as your posts clearly want) is denial. Analysis of past events is important to understanding the effects in the future. I guess that what I am trying to say in the end is...If you want Bush to say in office for "4 more Years!", vote for Nader in 2004 (at least in the swing states). I am certainly not the only one who believe that because, Republican operatives in those states have been busy signing him up.
No I am not a "political operative" of any sort.

Re:Wikipedia is NOT an encyclopedia.
It's fairly easy toinsert misleading and false information into Wiki. Don't use it like as a replacement for an encyclopedia, or a properly vetted secondary source, unless you're an idiot.
It's also fairly easy to make corrections or readjust bias in wikipedia. I quote:
"Recent research by a team from IBM found that most vandalism suffered by Wikipedia had been repaired within five minutes. That's fast: 'We were surprised at how often we found vandalism, and then surprised again at how fast it was fixed,' says Martin]Wattenberg, a researcher in the IBM TJ Watson Research Center, in Cambridge, Mass." [7]
Is Wikipedia an encyclopedia? Let's go math-class style with the definition:
A comprehensive reference work containing articles on a wide range of subjects or on numerous aspects of a particular field, usually arranged alphabetically.
Apparently Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. -
