Re: There might be hope for a decent adaptation
It would be like telling the story of the Lord of the Rings from the viewpoint of Sauron and making it very sympathetic to his viewpoint too, portraying Gandalf as a stupid idiot sent to torment him.
That sounds like a good film.
Maybe you could get Michael Moorcock to write it.
Or maybe Kiril Eskov.

Did they discover
a Nullaquan dustwhale? Are they harvesting Flare from its innards even as we speak? That would sell well in SoCal.
-
Epic Pooh with few chicks, yeah that's better...
It was, is, and shall ever be Epic Pooh as described by Michael Moorcock.
-
Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad...
Why must the Epic Space Pooh continue on and on with no death allowed?

Re:Tolkien's prose
Tolkien gave a lot of hacks plenty to rip off, that's for sure. any discussion at all of LOTR simply must include Micheal Moorcock's essay Epic Pooh, which has a lot to say on the matter of Tolkien and all the hacks that continuously rehash the jolly old england theme. http://www.revolutionsf.com/article.php?id=953

Re:Oh please don't
All the characters maintained their shallowness, just like it's depicted in the books.
Though I'm sure you'll get modded down for this, it is a viewpoint other authors share. -
Re:If TreesExist == true, then GrassExist == True?
As others have mentioned, trees and grasses are very different types of plants, and the presence of one does not necessarily imply the presense of the other.
Previously it was believed that grasses didn't appear until after the K-T extinction -- the end of the dinosaur era, and the predominant ground cover was thought to be mosses or something similar. -
Globalhead -- uneven but with gems
Globalhead is uneven, but the good stuff ("Our Neural Chernobyl", "The Shores of Bohemia") is really, really good.
Agreed -- not all of the Globalhead stories make the grade -- but don't miss "We See Things Differently" -- my God, that's a great story!
Sterling has an amazing gift for writing political fiction -- he writes American characters, Arab characters, Russian characters ... and man, you are there, you become an American, an Arab, a Russian.
Also not to be missed: "Red Star, Winter Orbit" -- short story, collaboration with William Gibson, appears in Gibson's "Burning Chrome" collection.

alternative
You should have made it look like this instead of the little christmas house.
Then, I would be impressed. -

Re:Scary books...
You could be nice enough to credit this to GK Chesterton, and not paraphrase it.
Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.
It should also be noted that this is the epigraph to Neil Gaiman's children's book Coraline.

Bruce Sterling story
There's a brief but well-informed reference to the glass harmonica in a short SF story by Bruce Sterling, We See Things Differently". Strange little story, about rock'n'roll and Islam, or something.
Here's the passage:
Boston played a glass harmonica: an instrument invented by the early American genius Benjamin Franklin. The harmonica was made of carefully tuned glass disks, rotating on a spindle, and played by streaking a wet fingertip across each moving edge.
It was the sound of pure crystal, seemingly sourceless, of tooth-aching purity.
The famous Western musician, Wolfgang Mozart, had composed for the Franklin harmonica in the days of its novelty. But legend said that its players went mad, their nerves shredded by its clarity of sound. It was a legend Boston was careful to exploit. He played the machine sparingly, with the air of a magician, of a Solomon unbottling demons. I was glad of his spare use, for its sound was so beautiful that it stung the brain. -
Re:In a perfect world
in this interview, jhonen sez that zim is not on cartoon network, because cn simply does not have the resouces to pay for an entirely cg show like zim.
which sucks. a lot.chesh.

in this interview, jhonen sez that there are no plans for dvds as of yet. and there might not be, now that the show's being cancelled

Death and Morons: The Jhonen Vasquez Story
Heres an interview with Jhonen Vasquez. Its kinda old but its a great read. It has info on the censorship that nick imposed and plenty of fan boy questions. Its very sad to see the show go. I have been a fan of vasquez since the days of Johnny and SQUEE. For all those who doubt the greatness of ZIM download the episodes. ZIM IMO is the best american cartoon out there, and yes I do watch adult swim. Vasquez has a really unique art style and a unique sense of humor. Hes one of the few comic book artists who doesnt draw every woman with double D's

Only 4?
Wow, you're just slacking there.
I mean, hell, if I were to pick up the special version of Army of Darkness, I'd have 4 copies of just that one. (VHS, VHS Special Ed., DVD, DVD Special Ed.)
I don't know my exact count, but well, that's why one of my friends talked me into reviewing DVD special features:
Dogma (sp.ed vs. regular)
One of these days, we might actually post some of the other reviews. (comparing both versions of The Princess Bride, Dune [Lynch vs. SciFi], The Holy Grail, etc.) -
Absolutely horribleI am going to ignore the offense I usually take at Slashdot posting movie reviews and reply to this one.
This was an absolutely horrible movie with exactly one moment of inventiveness (see below). There was absolutely nothing that wasn't predictable, cliche, simplistic, and saccharine. Every person who came on screen with more than a few lines had their problems magically solved by prot in the most inane way possible. Work too much? Guess what, you'll come to appreciate your family! Have an estranged son mentioned in all of two scenes? I wonder if he'll be estranged by the end of the movie? Have OCD? Magic Jesus-analogue Kevin Spacey will make it all better.
I truly can't believe anyone actually enjoyed this movie.
As for the one inventive moment, it came at the end of the movie, as Jeff Bridges runs in slow motion to beat a digital countdown. The reason I consider this inventive is that the creators of K-PAX managed to throw in a completely unexpected movie cliche into a movie built entirely on other cliches. Note that I didn't put spoiler space around this because it was in the trailer.
My full review will appear sometime early in the week at Revolution SF. It will be more coherent than the above, which was written out of sheer shock in seeing someone think that there was actually something original about K-PAX. -
I LIKED itI think you need to lay off a little, Micheal.
It was a good beginning for the series. I think there is a lot of potential for the characters, The Dr in particular.
While I'm not sure where the 29th centure guy is going to go, or wht they'll do with him, it is a plot hook, and presumabily will develop into a story arch. Which is what everyone says they like.
The Jello scene did perhaps go a bit over the line, it serverd a usefull purpose in allowing the chracters to intereact.
Without it, you'd be asking "Why the hell didn't she take the ship and run. I thought Vulcans were logical."
I think you may be slamming it because your expectations were too high. It was good television, and good startrek. There are some reviews of it at http://www.revolutionsf.com/article/441.html
