I've always said we need a Grand Cannon
Just never knew where we could find the protoculture to power it. Plus, it would come in handy when some pesky ETs show up looking to steal our resources and women!

Macross Plus - Only sequel to WHAT?Near as I'm aware the only sequel, Macross Plus, was released in English though away from the Harmony Gold treatment. First of... So I don't get my Robotech/Macross nerd card revoked:
It was three not two unrelated anime series that Carl Macek cut-and-pasted together to make Robotech.
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Super_Dimension_F ortress_Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Dimension_Caval ry_Southern_Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_Climber_Mospe ada
As for Macross sequels... Hell yes there were more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Super_Dimension_F ortress_Macross#Sequels
Robotech on the other hand had only one REAL sequel (Robotech Sentinels crashed and burned before even starting) - the 2006 Robotech: Shadow Chronicles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotech:_The_Shadow_ Chronicles

We're screwed!
According to this timeframe
.... http://www.robotech.com/infopedia/timeline/vieweve nts.php?primaryseries=MAC, aliens are bound to attack our planet! The VF-1 mechs are clearly based on the F-14 design. If production stops of the F-14s, then we won't be able to rapdily build the VF-1. So, we are screwed! -
Re:Similar to USA-Japan Technology-Sharing DisputeHopefully, Tokyo will not succumb to American pressure and will design a 100% all-Japanese interceptor.
I can only assume you're talking about the long-awaited development of veritech fighters.

A Grand Cannon?
I think this is what they are really building, aReflex cannon. Zentraedi fleet watch out!

Hellooooo, 1980's?
But the cartoon sucked. Always sucked.
OK, let's review...
Transformers was aired in 1984. Cartoons (anime or otherwise) with good storylines were rare, if not unique. After all, what was the competition?
He-man? Voltron? Mazinger Z (pfft) ?
Transformers was written for young, gullible kids. Yes, it was also made to sell toys, but what difference does it make with other cartoons of today?
Anyway, it was a show about good vs. evil. And the evil characters were REALLY evil. I loved the way Megatron planned the destruction of the autobots, he was evil, and i just loved that (well actually i hated him, but you get the point). We rarely see characters like him today. And remember, in 1984, kids weren't aware of conspiracies, and intensive drama was definitely taboo. We were children! We didn't have to worry about terrorism, drugs, or our best friend committing suicide. We just wanted to play, have fun, and watch some TV.
Call me naive, but it was a show perfectly adapted for our young, innocent mindsets. And we loved it. -
Re:I can't believe I got the chance to first post?
Sounds like someone is a little too infatuated with their Minmei doll.
This dancing robot thing has come out way ahead of schedule. Minemei isn't even scheduled to win Miss Macross until December 2009, so the Zentrati shouldn't get their first dancing Minmei dolls until 2010 sometime. -

Re:Limited Usefulness
I'm not too sure where that figure of 20ft for the height comes from.
Same here. My first thought of a battlefield mech is the Robotech Cyclone. That seems versatile to me - but hard to build without Protoculture for a fuel source. The whole transformer idea is what makes mecha seem useful to me. Maybe I'm just a little old school.

We need cooler people, and cooler stuffThey need to hire rock in roll scientists, maybe go to the Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists and pick out a particular Dude who I've seen make women swoon at talks before, and the right heads always turn when you pick up one of his books. Nasa also needs to give them cooler spacesuits than these. See the guy on the bottom he looks like the stay puff marhmellow man. I suggest something svelte, robotic, and shiny like these things here.
How many kids would be studying their asses off if they knew they could pilot a mecha?

Re:SDF?
SDF-1 Also know as Super Dimensional Fortress, is what started the Robotech wars.

My picks
The best Sci Fi on TV right now is clearly all the repeat runs of Star Trek, ST Next Generation and ST Voyager. And let's not forget the occasional Superstation presentation of Stallone in "Judge Dredd".... a stunning cinematic masterpiece, with Rob Schneider playing a wonderfully refreshing role as comic relief.
The best sci fi not on TV right now is Robotech. Episodes can be found on Gnutella and Hotline, and are also available on DVD from the Robotech website, Robotech.com. -
Yes, but probably not soon!
Actually, I'm fairly sure they will port Robotech II, The Sentinels as well (per Macek "The Sentinels will be released as part of one of the boxed set from THE MACROSS SAGA. It will not be able to be purchased separately. We all hope that additional animation for The Sentinels will be able to be animated. ".) There has even been discussion of finishing the series, but I doubt it. But with new Robotech series on the way (look here. and read here) things aren't all bad.

Everyone loves Robotech
I used to watch Robotech and Transformers, so I couldn't believe it when Tranformers completely ripped off the Skull One with Jetfire/Skyfire.

Re:DVD quality?
Video quality is OK, but not spectacular. No attempt was made to clean it up, one assumes in an effort to keep thet price down. Still very watchable. Audio is fine, but in the original mono. Check out the forums on http://www.robotech.com for more. Membership required to read.

Re:look at the price!!!Not quite Right.
As seen here:
http://www.robotech.com/news/viewarticle.php?id=2
7 The DVD's can be picked up at most major video stores around the US. They can also be bought online at many major shopping sites, at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $14.98 or less for the individual DVD's, and $44.95 or less for the box sets.
Looks like you spotted the prices for different set:
Super Dimension Fortress: Macross - Complete Box Set This special Macross DVD box set includes the 36-episode Macross series in its original Japanese form, uncut and with remastered footage. In addition, fans who sign up for the preorder list now will enjoy a hefty discount of $110 off the retail price! IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the Japanese Macross series, not the Macross Saga of Robotech.
Don't Panic Yet!

Terms of Use, eh?I just checked out the official Robotech site. However, I find it most disturbing that on the front page I see:
- "By using this Web site, you are agreeing to the Terms of Use."

Re:But what is protoculture, doggammit!!!??
Well it depend on which version you go by. If I remember it right the Robotech version, protoculture is fuel for the Mecha. It is also food for the Invid. That is why the Invid invaded Earth, because protoculture is very limited. Protoculture seems to thrive on Earth.
On the Macross version, protoculture is just that pro-culture. The aliens don't have a culture of their own. They have been fighting each other for so long that they don't have a culture, ie no sex, no songs, nothing just fighting each for god knows how long. That is why the aliens where so scare of Minmei singing, they almost had a heart attack.
For more information you might want to check this site out. http://www.robotech.com/

What a cool bit of news!I'm excited to find this out, and I hope they don't screw it up like Hollywood screws up every great "classic". I don't mean to be negative, but, well you all know what I mean!
On a related matter, I've also been checking out the coming of the new Robotech which should be very cool as well. Anybody have any additinoal news on it? I'm always a sucker for the flashback!
