Ok, then lets count boats...

Re:I can't wait to see
I doubt that Samsung has anything left to learn about building ships. Real ships.

Re:The ruling itself
Samsung wouldn't have gone very far unless the Middle Eastern oil companies provided them with petrochemicals for the Galaxy's plastic cover. However, there is nothing made by Samsung in any product supplied by the said companies. Now...who is the innovator?
Bet you a shiny dollar there is.

Summing it up....So the current list of linux PDAs here or on the horizon now stands:
Lernout & Hauspie's version with Speech Recognition
maybe more?
At this rate, I might as well develop one. -
Mobile Linux
Well, Mobile Linux will only be useful if it is done right... so that it is actually stable, usable, and as "idiot-proof"/easy to use as WinCE and PalmOS... Palmtops are a user-driven market, and most of the users are not engineers... While Linux gives access to cheaper, more familiar development environments (Gnu compilers, etc.) for OpenSource engineers, there needs to be more than just that...
Some more Linux Handheld links, including the actual specs of Pengachu, which reveal that 900mhz is the RF band (in case you thought it was the clockspeed), etc...
The Project Pengachu home page (specs, etc.)
MobiliX has various Mobile linux links / resources.

Linux PDA info
If you're interested in putting Linux on PDAs, you might look at this stuff too:
handhelds.org: Putting Linux on iPAQ and Nino
linuxce.org: Developing a Linux Kernel for WinCE devices
linux-vr.org : running linux on your VR series device
uclinux.org: linux/microcontroller project
Yopy: Samsung's pre-installed Linux PDA with color/sound.
hope this helps the interested.

Looks like Yopy this year, webpad next year
In that case we'll all be buying the Yopy instead of Webpads, since "third quarter of 2000" really means mid-2001 in the shops, earliest.
I wish these damn mobile computers didn't have to be made with colour displays for marketing reasons though, as the resulting poor battery life makes them almost unsuitable for their main target market. We need something between laptop power consumption and the Palm's three-months-on-two-AAAs frugality, say a week's use between charges. The Yopy's StrongArm is even more frugal than the Crusoe, but the colour LCD makes that irrelevant. Bleh. -
Re:"First PDA to run Linux" - this is false?
And besides the "Palm-plus-expansion-board"-stuff from uclinux, there's the LART as a research project and the upcoming Yopy (see below).
It may only be the first PDA being shipped with Linux. So let's forgive the misleading emphasis:-) But they definitely have to do something about the "system requirements" for the Desktop Partner. vtech.com states: "Microsoft Windows® 95 or Windows® NT Workstation"
:-( But netcraft says their webserver is running apache on BSD:-)On the plus side: 8 MB of SDRAM, plus 2 MB flash for operating system and applications for about $179 against $157 for the Palm IIe with it's 2MB (using http://computers.cnet.com/ list prices, since I haven't seen the Helio being shipped in europe (anyone?)).
But, as stated in another comment, they have to go a long run with Palm being something like a de facto standard (besides the "Windows powered" stuff:-). And, don't forget the Samsungs studies for a "hi end" GNU/Linux-powered PDA: The Yopy. 32MB RAM, 32MB(64MB) Flash Memory and a 206MHz ARM RISC 32bit Microprocessor.
So, I'm not that convinced that "The Helio may make a break for the running of the PDA-of-choice-for-Linux-geeks yet".

YOPY
If you can hold on a bit (?!) longer, the YOPY should be available very soon. I'm certain many people are waiting on it. It's linux based and aparently can do absolutely everything.

OT (sort of) YOPY Dev Kit Out April 30th
I got an email from Gmate saying the software development kit for the Yopy will be out on April 30th. In case you don't know, the Yopy is a Linux based PDA that will be marketed by Samsung. It runs on the 206mhz StrongARM and has a 4" TFT color screen, stereo audio, 32 meg ROM, 32 meg flash RAM (both upgradeable), compact flash slot, RS-232 and USB, 4-way game type buttons, a LiOh battery and runs Linux with W Windows. Gamate is developing lots of fun gadgets to plug into the CF slot (digital camera, PCS phone, Bluetooth and other wireless stuff). The Yopy itself is due out around the first of June. Cpt_Kirks
