Re:I tried, it's failed. Not to troll or anything, but as far as I can tell your website is just a rip off of AmIHotOrNot, with the word "bangable" instead of "hot".
I'd like to see this work. I know if Something Awful or X-Entertainment put a tipbox up, I'll be first in line to send a buck or two their way.

Re:There are mirrorsThey'd just mirror it [goatsex]. That would become the new game. Hell, they already do with comp-u-geek.
Just pay more attention, or setup Junkbuster, or something.

The State Of The Internet
Lowtax's article on the subject suggests a possible solution: more targeting.
-
Doubleclick and advertising
I'm getting tired of all these 'privacy advocates' spouting off every time some net ad agency tries to get some basic info about their targets (in DoubleClick's case, not so basic info). But if we want internet sites to be free, those sites 99% of the time need advertising. If the advertisers don't know who they're advertising to, they make no money, and thus give no money to the site. TV advertisers have MUCH more info than you would think about you. Age demographics, gender, etc.
What I'm saying is that you should lay off a bit, because you can't have it both ways: free with ads, or a subscription service with no/less ads. Just because they have information about you doesn't mean theyre going to do anything with it other than targeted ads!
/incoherent_rant :)
Lowtax from Something Awful has a great article about this that he posted a week or so ago, which is here.
Lighten up a bit people! Jeez! -

Re:The problem with advertising
...or do you also blame me for not reading the newspaper ads?
I agree with you 100%, but I don't think the analogy works. Maybe a better one would be someone with a Tivo who tapes his shows and watches them later, fast-forwarding through the commercials. I don't feel guilty about doing that and I don't think anybody should. I also don't feel guilty about using Junkbuster. At a site I like (like Something Awful, I'll sometimes click on the blank banners just to give that webmaster the clickthroughs as a kind of "thank you."
I'll tell you this, though: I don't go around to all my friends talking about how everybody should use Junkbuster. If proxies that eliminate banner ads become prevalent on the 'net, I think advertisers are just going to come up with sneakier ways to force ads on us. -
Paging JeffK, paging JeffK...
Any fears of impending US / India conflicts can be alleviated by sending the US's most prominent butcher of the English language, JeffK to serve on the aforementioned committee. Last I heard, the NSA was trying to get ahold of him and could not be reached for comment. Experts warned that Jeff's strange style of communication could have adverse effects on India at large.

Express.com huh?
Condemnations from shitty service aside, the way express.com screwed over LowTax over SA biased me against them. I work right next to chinatown so I don't need their service anyways. I'd link to it but since the redesign nothing is where it's supposed to be.

Re:Trenchcoats!Hell yeah. I remember when that shit went down, the trench-goths at school were actually banned from wearing their pathetic black trenchcoats. No long-haired male under twenty will ever again be able to wear a black trenchcoat without provoking visions of schoolyard slaughter.
On the other hand, I always thought the whole goth-trenchcoat thing was sort of lame, so maybe it's for the best. Not that I doubt our gothic friends' ability to devise even stupider fashions.
All generalizations are false. -

The statements says its fewer then 300 NEC laptops, so its not that huge of a deal after all ..This calls for the creation of the CmdrTaco Quality Seal! The first one is given to JeffK! Only awarded to sites with a minimum of spelling and grammar errors.
You might, however, also employ a grammar & spelling nazi.

Everyone should read this review. This guy ranks right with jeffk for random acts of humor. And I quote *ahem*:
However, graphics aren't everything so let's move on to the next area in the game - the interface. It's really difficult to put how terrible Force Commander's interface is into words... let's see... hmmm... OK, I think I've got it! The interface in Force Commander is akin to jumping into a piranha-infested pool filled with heavily-salted lemon juice after having just survived an attack by the paper-cut monsters from the planet Fleshwound.
Wow, that made my night. -
The Something Awful ConnectionIt took me a second, but I think that Effugas (the guy who sent in the story) made a tremendously funny metajoke by linking the word "A" to one of Something Awful's Cranky Steve's Whorehouse map reviews. The infamous This Map is GoodFun
For those know in-the-know, Something Awful is an often hilarious page of humor written by one Rich "Lowtax" Kyanka, and is somewhat game-oriented in much of its humor. One featured page is "Cranky Steve's Whorehouse" which reviews Quake (and its descendants, relatives) maps that are truly and hellaciously awful. One hallmark of bad maps, and this one in particular is the overuse of colored lighting.
So imagine what happens when everywhere you go, the same type of people who write these godawful Quake maps get the bright idea to use these multicolored lights in real life?
Right

Something Awful
I belive the actual link was to a QuakeII map called 'This Map is Good Fun', which really has to be seen to be believed.

I actually found this one on somethingawful.com a couple days ago, and spent about a half an hour peeing my pants from the commentary.

Something Awful on wearable computersEnjoy SA's Awful Link of the Day on wearable computers from two weeks back:
Awful Link of the Day: Extreme Computing - The Cyborgs (thanks David) - The title claims, "The future is now." If the future is hundreds of graduate students wearing pounds of wires and hunks of metal on their head, I might as well shoot myself now.
In Vedic culture, the honorific 'Sri' or 'Shree', meaning 'True' is bestowed upon great men and women, usually spiritual gurus. (For example, Sri Aurobindo). In European culture, the title 'Sir' is bestowed on great men as a recognition of merit and service. (Sir Isaac Newton). Now, Extreme Computing bestows the honorary title 'Cy' to those great souls who are leading the way into our techno future. Those brave men and women who, resistant to the jeering purists strive with all their power to higher and higher echelons of techno integration.
Our "techno future"? "Techno integration"? What kind of crap is this? People are taping mp3 players to their skull, big whoopdy doo. It doesn't mean they're a cyborg, it means they shouldn't be trusted with any more tape.

I'm a daily SA reader
Express.com bought a dud and now they're trying to palm the cost off on to the "employees" by witholding payment.
It really stinks. They've strung poor Rich along for ages and I'm sure he's doing well to hold on to his sanity.
To people who say "too bad, you should've read the small print" or whatever well the guy has been receiving payment for the same ads for ages. Then one day the cheque doesn't arrive and they tell him "we'll be paying you late - sorry" the time drags by and yesterday it turned in to "nope, we're not paying you ever because of some lame shit we just made up" and he's $3000 out of pocket for the bandwidth for the site.
We all run the risk in a salaried environment of a similar experience - I know I've had it happen to me - comapny starts going bust but they don't tell the employees and then Bam! "sorry no pay this month -we're broke" and you sit there looking at your credit card bill & mortgage cos you lived a month in the future.
Saying "you should've known it could happen" isn't much comfort.
and btw. people in wheelchairs are funny just like everybody else is.
as usual Post your comments in the forum .oO0Oo. -

Re:Moderation system for stories.
I don't know
.. i think this is an interesting product.
Let's say I was a musician, who owned a laptop, and I liked to develop music on the road. I could bring the laptop back to the stuido and dump all of the huge music files back to the PC.
Let's say I was a graphic designer, and I needed a CDRW, a Zip Disk, and a lot of hard drive space. This would be great.
Let's say I was cool liek Jeffk and I carried my laptop around, plugged it into other people's phone lines and stole important information. Well I wouldn't want to keep that data unencrypted on my laptop. I could keep that thing hidden somewhere and all the data encrypted on it.
Just a thought

To quote the inimitable Jeff K...
SO how coem ther si 10000000 gaems about STAR TRACK comineing out evary day?!?
do we needs thes many STAR TRACK gaems?
Quote torn from the JEFF K. interview with Jake Simpson. Just like with every Jeff K. article, I laughed so hard I had a brain hemorrhage and now I'm dead. (You bastards had better appreciate that I'm using my final words to bring you this bit of humor.)

Gamefan: Eat a Bag of Hell!
I'm glad to see Gamefan die. If Lowtax @ Something Awful is telling the truth, they screwed him out of thousands of $$$ in banner ad revenue. Its nice to see a big corporate sleaze hole get screwed in return.
