JMS offer rescindedAs great as a JMS-written Trek might be, he just rescinded his offer:
Trekweb
Actually...belay everything I just said.
In the 24 hours between the time I composed the prior note, and sent it, and it made its way through the moderation software, two things happened:
1) I heard from a trusted source that Paramount is giving the Trek TV world a rest for maybe one to two years, depending on circumstances, no matter who would come along to run it. So it's not right to have folks putting in time doing something that ultimately would be pointless, I don't think that's a proper use of anybody's time.
2) At the same time as the above, an offer came in to run a new TV series for fall of '06, and since there's no way anything Trek can happen in the interim, I've said yes (now we have to negotiate the deal, but that should be fairly straightforward).
So on two counts, the whole thing is kind of moot.
We can reconvene a year or two down the road to see where this takes us, but in the interim...my apologies for waking everybody up in the middle of the night.
As you were.
Thanks and with great chagrinedness --

Idea already been pulled
JMS already pulled the idea (Paramount decided to give Trek TV a rest).
Check out the updated info at TrekWeb -
That's just stupid.According to TrekWeb.com:
The report, which will appear in the June 20-26 edition of TV Guide, cites industry sources as reporting that Paramount renewed ENTERPRISE, which had struggled in the ratings during its third season, on the offer that the fee UPN pays would be reduced from $1.7 million per episode to $800,000 per episode
2.5 million viewers is more than enough to support a subscription model for the show (that's less than 20c per viewer). And remember, we're ignoring the rest of the world in that equation. StarTrek actually has a history of fans joining together to fund it. Vast numbers of people are already downloading Enterprise off the net, if only Paramount would legitimize the activity and use the subscriptions to fund the development. -
Enterprise is looking good
Enterprise is starting to look really good. I previously submitted a story - that was rejected
:-( - about the next half of Star Trek: Enterprise. Trektoday reported that it will feature some exciting plots involving "Andoria, a Klingon moon, Romulan outposts, Romulan Marauders, Orion Privateers, Earth's Moon, Mars, a Constitution-class Federation starship and more. You'll see a live Tholian... and a Gorn." according to the show runner Manny Coto. Leaked mild spoilers also indicate that the Constitution-class ship is the U.S.S. Defiant, which re-appears in the two-parter episode titled, In a Mirror, Darkly. There have been beautiful pictures of the reconstructed set just recently posted too. As a hardcore Trekkie, I find it fascinating. -
Re:Uhm??
They said "Shatner" not "James T. Kirk."
erm... ^^
Tycoon Guy writes "Is that the sound of desperation I hear? TrekToday is reporting that, according to a trailer shown at CBS Television City, William Shatner will be appearing on Star Trek: Enterprise for a two-episode guest stint - as James T. Kirk!
...and from the original article...
"Join us this fall for a 2-episode special as William Shatner returns to the Star Trek universe, as James T. Kirk."
Bear in mind this whole story is based on a posting on a message board, so to be taken with a large pinch of salt. -
Re:Tea, Earl Grey, HotI mean, even native americans survived Star Trek times, like captain Tatanka from Voyager.
Yeesh, that was pretty obscure, but I thought it was mildly funny.
Tatanka is apparently the English spelling of the word the Lakhota Souix use for "bull buffalo".
The character from Voyager is Commander Chakotay

Re:OT: Patrick Stewart through with Star Trek
A few weeks ago us.imdb.com had a brief blurb stating that Patrick Stewart had formally decided that Nemesis would be his last Trek.
Strange, in this article he is advocating another one. -
Ron D. Moore
Ron Moore was one of the main guys to then go onto Voyager from DS9 (he did Q&A sessions available on TrekWeb).
He went over to try and sort some of the problems out (i.e. continuity reset button, more fluid story arc, etc), but ended up leaving because he couldn't work with people who just didn't give a shit about trying to make the series better anymore (i.e. the writers).
Although I don't have a link of where he gave his reasons for leaving, but it's out there... somewhere (a bit like my desire for watching Enterprise, it has completely disappeared).

It's all about money
There has been a lot of dicussusions about this on the Trek sites (i.e. TrekWeb) and they've (the studios) have always been saying that about most things. The actors (inc Patrick Stewart) have chimed in to say that if the movie does WELL.. then there'll be another one.
The film will definately offer closure to some TNG threads, especially with what happens at the end... and hence this is where the rumours have come from.
Either way, it will kick bottom!

Re:Try this link
TrekWeb has a bunch of links to various information on Enterprise including first looks of the sets. BTW, I am not affiliated with trekweb so I don't care if you don't check them out either.

Other Andromeda review sitesHere are a couple of review sites I like checking up on from time to time. They both contain Andromeda reviews as well as various Star Trek series: -Chris

This information is likely falseIt appears TrekToday didn't attempt to verify this information. In any event, TrekWeb has received an email from a London-based casting director (who's name is being kept confidential) who claims this casting sheet is fake.
"I'm afraid to say that all the information you have received about the next 'Star Trek' project is incorrect. The official information about the new show was given out a few weeks ago and the steps have been taken to ensure that information is kept confidential.
See TrekWeb for details.
Thanks.

...misty water-colored memories...
There is a description of the scene here. Apparently this scene takes place right after Spock leaves the enterprise to go inside V'ger. Kirk follows, and they find this wall of crystals that contain V'gers "memories" or patterns of things V'ger has assimilated or something. Then Spock goes on to explore V'ger and Kirk goes back to the enterprise.

Needs a break, and new peopleStar Trek is in serious trouble. Paramount knows this, and they are desperate to fix it and see it riding high once again. The only problem is, they don't know how to do this, and the people they are relying on to save this franchise are the same people who dug it into its current hole in the first place, namely Rick Berman and Brannon Braga.
Right now, Star Trek is at pretty much its lowest point since the 70s, when there was no series at all. The last movie was a disappointment, both critically and commercially, Voyager ratings are a pale shadow of what they were in early seasons (they're stable compared to last year, but that's only because they really can't go down very much more). Hell, today came the news that Kate Mulgrew's fan club has shut down. Granted this seems to be for personal reasons on the part of the founders, but the symbolism is profound. The fan club of the actress who plays the captain on a Star Trek show- noted for the dedication of its fans- is no longer. Pathetic.
Birth of the Federation sounds to me like an unbelievably stupid idea. Anybody who knows about Star Trek already has a pretty good idea of what happened back then. And frankly, we don't really care. Brannon Braga has never been noted for his dedication to consistency within the Star Trek universe, so now he's going to bring in a time-travel guy so he can fuck things up. We all know what this is going to mean- more weird-ass vortexes, more mindless fights, more anomalies-of-the-week, and probably more women in catsuits. The Baywatch-ization of Star Trek will be complete. But hell, even if they want more of an action focus, the Special Forces concept would be cooler than this.
I think it's time for Paramount to realize what alot of other people already have: the time has long since come for Braga and Berman to move on. The franchise needs a break. Finish Voyager, then just let it sit for a bit. Then call in some fresh blood, or some veteran blood that knows what it's doing. Ronald D. Moore's recent articles on Fandom show that he is a man who understands the franchise's problems and he has a pretty good idea how to fix them. He is one of the key people responsible for one of Star Trek's few recent successes, the final season of Deep Space Nine, which was brilliantly done. Moore would be the perfect candidate to resurrect Star Trek.
Obviously I haven't seen Birth of the Federation so I can't make any final judgments. But I'm definitely not optimistic. Having a Star Trek series cancelled in its first season would be a huge embarrasment and the biggest insult yet to a franchise that's already been largely stripped of its dignity. But having it die might be the only way to save it in the long run.

Rumors Available on Mirror SiteI have finally been able to get on and have posted the article in its entirety on TrekWeb.COM:
-
Rumors have been flying for months, no real info..
I have lots of inside sources at Paramount (as evidenced through my good streak of reliable spoilers and such on my site, TrekWeb.COM) and although I haven't been able to read the SF Crowsnest article due to "slashdotting" (the enormous server overload due to being featured on slashdot), I know that Rick Berman and Brannon Braga are in the very early development stages of a new series and the chances that anyone outside of them knows anything about it other than Kerry McCluggage (the prez of Paramount tv) is highly unlikely. Expect some reliable information to be out in a couple months, since it is slated to premiere next fall (and thus casting must begin in Jan and shooting by May). Hopefully some of you will check out my site, TrekWeb.COM. I know that a lot of people that come to slashdot are Trek fans (as evidenced by the enormous amount of comments to this story) and I hope many of you try out TrekWeb.COM and maybe become regular visitors to the site for the best Star Trek news available. Thanks.
