roland piquepaille filter
There are a few Roland Piquepaille filters available - they take the form of Greasemonkey scripts running in Firefox
I use this one: http://userscripts.org/scripts/review/5735/ it's called NoRoland - if userscripts.org is down (again), the author (Dave?) hosts it on his own site too - http://davephp.net/
It's very effective - all I see of Roland's pollution now is a greyed out article box with the words "This is a slashvertisement. Please ignore!"
Most of the time I choose to "ignore"
-
Screw Roland
Got Greasemonkey? Don't want to see Roland 'Slashdotters-are-my-ad-view-bitches' Piquepaille's stories?

Solution
Greasemonkey script removes null from URLs
-
Re:GmailThere should be a firefox plug-in that will automatically redirect you to the https url whenever you try to go through the http url. There is - it's called Greasemonkey with the GMailSecure script.
-
Re:Encryption
Easy...
1. Install the Greasemonkey Add-On for Firefox
2. Install the GMailSecure script for Greasemonkey
3. Profit!
Tweak script parameters as required for Calendar, Apps-For-Your-Domain, etc. etc. -
Editors will mod this down, but....
Get GreaseMonkey and add NoRoland!
Save your time, and stop Roly Poly freeloading off your clicks! -
Why bother with SlashPiqueAds???

Re:copy link location, paste into text editor
Firefox users (at least in Windows) can use Greasemonkey with this script

along with McAfee's SiteAdvisor to see a red/yellow/green icon next to all Google ad links.
Its not the best Greasemonkey script, but it gets the job done. -

Offtopic moderation troll
I have in the previous post claimed that the FA is void of anything new and useful. This is my opinion, and apparently the opinion of most of
/. readers. If you disagree with my position, post a reply as to why, and maybe you can convince me and others.
In any case is is certainly not off-topic.

Is Roland Piquepaille paid for Slashdot stories?
Roland_Piquepaille, the submitter of this story, is apparently a publicist. Apparently he is paid to have stories placed in media like Slashdot.
Mr. Piquepaille's affiliations and motivations should be disclosed. Does he pay someone at Slashdot to run his stories?
Also, for me, computing is an important area of continuing interest. Most of Mr. Piquepaille's stories, like this one, have very little real connection to computing, so they waste my time. I'm not the only one annoyed by this, apparently: Here is a script to Hide stories submitted by Roland Piquepaille from Slashdot.org.
Digg.com or Reddit.com are more appropriate media for Mr. Piquepaille. However, I suspect that his stories would seldom be considered interesting enough to be placed on the Digg or Reddit front pages.

Puhleease: Put Roland Piquepaille blog elsewhere
would like to just suggest a link to Roland Piquepailles blog somewhere where those who are interested can click. And *no more articles please*
I read /. to get real news and facts, and see discussions from people with insight.
Roland Piquepailles submissions has not met this criterium. At least filter away the combination "Piquepailles", "nano" and "quantum".
Take a bottle of nano-beer (yes the water molecules are nano particles), eat some nano-pretzels (the baking soda produced a nano-gas that puffed them up), and run this script.

Re:I Would Have Signed Up...
Unfortunately its become a modern-day whitepages, which is all I ever use Myspace for. I ran across something that made visiting the site more tolerable: a firefox plugin. Using the Greasemonkey plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/748/ and one of several scrips from http://userscripts.org/, all that annoying media is disabled, making for a somewhat more normal experience.
-
Re:Everyone uses it
As an ex-myspacer, I know of the ocular and mental angish caused by some of the pages on myspace. However, greasemonkey and the myspace custome style remover script make using myspace bearable.

Thank you - it appears that there are several.
I tried 3 of them, but this one seems to work best http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/5735/
I don't block adverts, flash etc. but Roland's blog spam irritates me.

Re:Speaking of bad design...
I think you're right, but when I'm forced to wade through Myspace, this helps.

Re:Obligatory Pigpile Rant
Actually, you missed one of the more important aspects of the fourth point:
He adds a link to his blog using "additional references and a picture" (or variants) as the text. This results in him getting higher google rankings for his blog, particularly for "additional references and a picture" (or variants). Note the Related Links at the top right of the Slashdot page for this article. In addition to a standard "slashvertisement", the effects also amount to a "googletisement".
While in ordinary circumstances this could potentially be acceptable, the contents of Roland's blog entries are usually redundant (including the picture) to the very articles he is reviewing in his blog. This amounts to an abuse of the trust provided by the Slashdot community.
Many people warn other slashdotters by adding the tag "pigpile" (for those who have tagging enabled). However, more people use the Greasemonkey script that will block Roland's pseudoscientific submissions, which brendandonhue posted in a previous Pigpile thread. That is why the Pigpile rants are low, not necessarily the holidays.

Re:Nice, but limited
you can use the "google maps in flickr" greasemonkey script for geotagging using google maps.
you can get that here:

then auto-convert 'geotags' to the new flickr format. -

there is usually some horrible music playing in the background that is difficult (if not impossible) to stop.

Re:I have a solution for this
There's a Greasemonkey script for that sort of thing: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1418
Seems to be inspired by the really cool software tool from IBM: http://www.research.ibm.com/history/ -
Dict Greasemonkey script
Any Firefox/Greasemonkey users out there that are interested in this may also want to check out the Dict script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1467
It adds a similar, but much less intrusive capability. Simply double-click on any word to highlight it, and the definition is shown in a small window. Once you're done, just click the X (or use my own slgihtly-modified version and click anywhere on the page) to close it.
Of course, this has both it's pros and cons as compared to the original idea discussed in the story. Since it's a client-side solution, this isn't something that will be available to your visitors. However, the good news is that it doesn't hijack your browser's context menu, which, as mnay other people have commented, is something I personally despise. -

My favorite: This is hot
Saw them all through the Google Cache. (I can't function without the Add Mirrors Greasemonkey Script which IMHO is way better than the Slashdotter Extension.)
Anyway, I thought "This is hot" blew all the others away. High production value. Gets some of the firefox message across to a mass audience without getting buried in all the product details. Most of the others will just leave people confused. -
Re:Crap.
I would like to take the opportunity provided by this nitpicking thread to request that the powers-that-be here at Slashdot kindly provide us with collapsible threads. That way, next time I see a preposition joke (and a good one too, GP) attacked by the grammar impaired, I can safely collapse the thread and relax, knowing I won't miss anything of any substance whatsoever.
You can always get some good greasmonkey scripts to fix slashdot's shortcomings...
There are also many other useful scripts available.
And yes, I agree that Slashdot should make quite a few usability fixes on the site, especially collapsable comments.
