Sheesh, most of the navigation is done via HTML, and you usualy have a choice between high and low bandwidth. Really, just go here and move your mouse over the screens. No, it's not as intuitive as a plain text list, but it's a movie not an XML parsing API or something.

First mistake: believing college professors know anything about the Web (some do, most don't). If you want to learn Web development, go intern at some company that's actually doing it.

Second mistake: believing large companies like AOL-Time Warner know anything about the Web (I've done outsourced work for them and other giants... they don't have a clue)

If you picked up the Matrix redux DVD, it contains a TON of material on the movie and previews of the upcoming ones.

On the site play the shockwave game and once you get through the various stages you're given a password to access the Matrix book preview (which they discuss on the DVD). The book contains tons of pics and stuff from the movies, the anime shorts, storyboards and other great stuff.

In truth, Warner Bros. was lazy and let a significant amount of cartoons slip into the public domain. Some of them they intentionally did not renew because they are considered racially insensitive and WB no longer wanted to be associated with them. Further muddying the waters, is the fact that MGM wound up with the classic "Golden Age" 30-40's ones, while WB only retains ownership of the slicker, later ones 50's-60's.

Jones himself was smart enough to start his own production company, and did make money selling images (cels and retreads) of the cartoons he had previously created. It would take WB another decade or two to catch on to that one.

So, we have a case where the company in charge sold or last half of the pertinent copyrights, and then was late to the table to remarket what remained. Not every company is the exploitation machine that Disney is.

Check out Dave Mackey's WB cartoon filmography. It's the first WB cartoon-related website to have a blurb. I'd expect something from chuckjones.com and WB/looney tunes soon, though.

This comes from a Chuck Jones fan who went a little too far. Realizing about 10 years ago that all my favorite cartoons had been written by the same guy, I went and investigated his life. I also bought a few of his more recent signed works (he did amazing cels and giclee' art ).

Chuck Jones had an excellent wit, which you can experience in his two hilarious and informative biographies, Chuck Amuck and Chuck Reducks . His writing is dry and Mark-Twainish, with personal touches that never get *too* personal.

His recent work (he was creating Shockwave cartoons of "Thomas Timberwolf" up to this month!) is available linked from his own website.

Anyway, enough karmawhoring, I am writing this with tears in my eyes. So long and that's all folks to my last American hero.

Nothing is resolved, nothing is explained, nothing even ties into another episode, you can watch them in almost any order.

I totally agree. If you want to see a show that has the same type of "what's going on here?" feel, but actually does tie it all together eventually, check out Babylon5. True the effects/costumes can be kind of hokey at times, but if you pay attention to the story arc, you'll see it is very well written and enjoyable.

Dreary ending aside, I can't stand poor engineering. After creating a mechanical and computational marvel like David, they overlooked (or worse, intentionally designed) an open ended esophagus that dumps straight into the internal circuitry of the chest cavity? What an insanely stupid shortcoming. At the stage of development they had reached, it would have been so simple to implement a fully operative ingestion and excrement system. How can you possibly treat David like a real boy if he NEVER eats?

The problem is not the last mile necessarily. For example, I have cable modem service and it is "capable" of 36 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. Do I get that? Hell no. I get 1.5 down and a pitiful 128K up. Why? Because they can't support the backbone bandwidth required if all of those last mile people with fat pipes decided to grab the Swordfish DIVX from a.b.m at the same time.

p.s. I wasted $8.00 on that stupid movie. Except for some cool explosions and a pair of breasts, it's not worth the bandwidth to even steal the damn thing. Yet another stupid Travolta flop. Fuck Hubbard, if Travolta wants success, he should stick to the Church of Tarantino...

Some of the strips even show Neo in army fatigues that some of you are talking about. The comic Neo character is WAY cooler than Keanu. I am just waiting eagerly for Matrix-II.

if you go to the matrix website and read some of the conceptual and supporting info, you will see that the humans were originally used for 'extra CPU cycles' in the story (as it probably should be) but my thinking is that this confused test audiences and the studio mandated a dumbdown.

Also, it strikes me that 'mandating a dumbdown' is a useful notion. can anyone think of a good word to indicate this concept? thanks,

Simple. Off of their "related sites" page is a link to Warner Bros. Warner's "search" link allows you to search "the web." Enter DeCSS. Voila.

MPAA => foot => mouth. Whee.
