Re:+4 interesting?
Do you have any evidence to back up this assertion, or are you just repeating what someone on the radio told you to think?
Well, you can start here. Keeping track of Clinton's lies seems to be a cottage industry. -

Re:I think it's a good thing
Who else is around in that country to make that decision?
The Shiite Muslim majority who have been protesting for the US to leave since 3 days after capitulation?
Hey, we don't want to spend our tax dollars to rebuild a country that got fucked up on account of the stupidity of its former leader.
Oooh, boy. Do you really think it was Saddam's fault? Yes, he was a fairly cruel (not even particularly cruel) leader, but remember that he was also the only Iraqi leader, and in fact the only leader in the entire Middle East to cast aside all the blind Muslim law and doctrine, and established a very prosperous welfare state. They had health care that rivalled your own.
Then came Iran, and he mistakenly thought he could attack amidst the new Islamic threat rising, and expand his Pax Arabia vision (a good one, in my opinion. Much better than the "so weak you cant do shit" version the US prefers). He was wrong.
All his neighbors had lent him large sums, and he had to repay, but all the oil derricks were destroyed. Then, Kuwait and the Sauds sold his debts to the IMF (or maybe World Bank, I dont recall which one), resulting in huge interest hikes. Basically, he was sold out by his neighbors.
And here's the best part. His country was weakened, but he knew he could take Kuwait, and utilize their oil to rebuild. Note that they had previously destroyed his credit. If you don't think revenge is a sufficient cause, I suggest you take a look at all the French's mustard unsold at the supermarket next time you go shopping, and think a bit harder.
So, he was planning to attack Iraq, and the US knew this. April Glaspie, the US ambassador to Iraq, greenlighted the fucking invasion. She basically said "We won't do a thing, have your way." Link.
So, who is stupid? Saddam for taking the word of the people who had so far been his good allies (billions of dollars worth of chemical, biological and conventional weapons), or the US for basically backstabbing him, for reasons unclear. I personally think it was an example. Of what the US could do to any Arab nation there, but, that's just me. You no doubt of course think that Saddam sealed his own fate when Satan inhabited his body and shot fire from his arse, igniting the Shiite neighborhoods of Basra.
May as well buy their oil and let them use the money to rebuild their own shit the way they want it.
Hahahaha, the way they want it!? LMAO!
In case, you haven't noticed, American firms have been getting all the contracts, and they are more expensive than hiring local, or even Uzbecki firms to do the same work. They can spend it the way they want, of course. As long as they spend it in America.
So, instead of spending xxx million to repair all of Iraq, they have to shell out xxx million to repair the sewage system. Brilliant. Could corporate welfare be any better than this?
("Free to turn in their previously legal firearms ") For the protection of our troops/liberators (or SS/Occupiers whatever you would like to believe).
Hmmm. Apparently then, they dont have the choice to, in your own words, "make a choice" on their government.
Tell me, if they appreciate your imposed democracy, why would you worry about those guns?
I agree with the other stuff. You do need to enforce law while the transition takes place. However, I doubt that America will allow a transition to another Shariah government to happen easily.
I'm just hoping that Iraq doesn't turn into another Afghanistan. Forgotten, abandoned, exploited. Hopefully, and doubtfully, the media has a longer attention span. -
They have used that yet
This week, Steve Ballmer donated 25 million euros on licenses to Spanish govt to put Windows in schools (English ) (French), one of the places in which Linux is spreding more thanks to Linex and other projects that other places here in Spain are starting.
But as I see it, this is positive. This means they're afraid anough of Free Software that they have to give for free Windows licenses.

Re:USA!!! USA!!! NO SADAM!!! NO SADAM!!! TJANKS BU
Strangely, that CNN-approved translation differs from how the rest of the world translates it.
A better translation is "No Saddam, No US Puppet Government, now we can become a true muslim nation"
Apparently, Saddam was the head of something called the Ba'ath party which was a socialist type thing which didn't give any funding to Muslim churches and greatly restricted the people's freedom to practice their religion. Saddam has recently loosened up, however, in an attempt to keep his popularity, so he's made public displays of himself celebrating holy days as a devout muslim, which fools nobody but the Americans.
But there WILL be a US puppet government, no matter what Bush promised them on "FreedomRadio" when the US took over Iraqi airwaves. Poor saps.
Anyone hear any more about the recent US-led massacre of Talibanis in Afghanistan? Nope. Didn't think so. That puppet government's REALLY doing well for itself - the opium trade is back in full swing, this time under the watchful eye of the CIA.

PayPal's sideI emailed PayPal customer support over their apparent politically motivated freezing of whatreallyhappened.com's PayPal account (see here for the wrh.com account). To my surprise they responded quite quickly, but said that under the terms of their privacy policy they couldn't discuss the issue with me, but that there was another side to the story.
What Paypal does is actually quite difficult, and I suspect it is a constant battle for them to prevent their service from being used illegally, and without them getting landed with massive liabilities. This is primarily due to the braindead way that credit cards work. I suspect that people that have had bad PayPal experiences might simply have become victims of the fact that Paypal has to be extremely aggressive about fraud just to survive.
Before everyone hangs them out to dry - perhaps stop to think, for a moment, what their side of the story might be.

After reading the majority of the 191 comments posted so far
...it saddens me to see that only about a dozen or so individuals 'get it', as opposed to the majority of supposed intelligent posters who parrot what they hear on the nightly news, like so many sheep.
I urge you to read alternate media reports of what is actually occurring in Iraq, and not the garbage that is being shoveled to you by the US media.
www.whatreallyhappened.com is as a good a place as any to start.
Mark my words: We will not win this 'war', (unless we are willing to massacre the citizens of Baghdad). We need to pull out our troops now, before it is too late. -

Quote form WRH
To quote WRH:
" Where is this fierce and capable enemy we were all told we had to destroy before they destroyed us? Where is the terror that we were told by our leaders we had to fear? All I see are helpless men with outdated equipment being slaughtered by a supertpower that raises the flag of conquest over their graves."
What if the Iraqi people don't want to pay the price of being "liberated"? What if they just want to be left alone, just like the Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians did.
Does anyone here realize that a certain middle east country has just buldozzed over a US citizen, and shot another. Isn't any of you going to take a stand against a deliberate attack on one of your own people? (They ran over her, backed up, and did it again) Hint: it's not an "Islamic" country either.
What as Iraq done to you? They used to have weapons of mass destruction. Great! So does China! Not to mention that the US government has used WMD's on it's own people (Waco) does this mean Canada would be justfied in invading the States? Why not? The same logic works doesn't it?
Oh, so YOU don't think so? Well, the rest of the WORLD definitely DOES!
You call us ungrateful? Read "Oliver Twist' and you'll understand why. -
Re:Rant: John Ashcroft causes mental defficiencies
I've heard lots of horrific stories from Iraqi refugees about torture with electric drills and acid,
Obviously the video game stuff is BS, but just you wait. In a couple of years you're going to start hearing stories of the torture that the US Gov't is currently inflicting upon anyone suspected of having links to bad people. Here's a link to stuff that is happening right now in the rising fascist state of America.
This is a very interesting time indeed. Many people have been making connections between America now and Germany in the 30's - how could people not have seen that their leaders were actually evil, misguided, frightening men? Why did people keep silent even when they knew? Why did so many people support the Nazis? We're all getting a little lesson in the answers to these questions right now...

Re:Wrong!!!
Wow! Was that an apology? It takes a really big man to admit he's wrong.
Sorry I forgot to take the time to literally take you by the scruff of your neck and stick your nose in the heaping pile of dancing Israeli stories. God forbid you should actually read any of the links provided, or that you should inconvenience yourself by having to manually enter text into a Google form.
Here is a partial compilation of just some of the many stories written about these Israelis. This is the link contained in this excellent piece by antiwar.com on the Israeli-9/11 connection. If you are genuinely interested in learning just how mistaken you were you might consider doing some research on your own.
Apology accepted. -
It's consistent with their strategy
Here's a story about how the Israelis' bugged the Dutch Intelligence Agencies and half of the police forces in the Netherlands.
Here's a story about how the Israelis' acquired data on phone calls made here in the U.S., possibly including the ability to eavesdrop on any call they desired. (Other parts to the above story may be read here, here and here.)
The above were all accomplished by Israel through an Israeli company providing goods and services to the international community.
Now an Israeli company wants us to encrypt all our sensitive data using their technology, which is unbreakable. Yeah, sure. -

To use the dumbness of an earlier troll...
It's been almost completely concluded that 9/11 happened because of US Intelligence failures.
Yeah, an intelligence failure like this? Or this? Or this? Or this? As opposed to the US Gov planning to invade Afghanistan before 9-11, to get a nice fat oil pipeline in there, and thus pissing off Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia being the country that almost all the highjackers came from, and the country funding Al Q'aida (sp?), and... err... the country supplying a very large portion of the USA's oil needs.
This TIA thing is research into how to improve it and prevent another 9/11.
War is good for business; there's arms manufacturers to please. George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four has a good explanation, written by "Emannuel Goldstein"(sp?). It is also a nice handy tool to crush dissent. A simplistic example would be the way Ford in the UK filtered out, with the help of the government, "subversives" from job applicants, for fear of union activity. Now we all know how much the US Corporate Government loves worker's unions!
It has nothing to do with spying on anyone. And everything to do with spying on everyone, collectively. Googling for dissenters, if you will.
Try this: The disinfo quiz. And this: The ACLU Quiz.
The only intelligence failure in this world is that of the people happy to just sit on their lazy ignorant arses and be spoonfed the "news" by their governments and Big Corps, instead of taking a few minutes to find out what's really going on.
Sorry if I've hurt anyones delicate idealistic feelings, but it has to be said.

Foreigners do influence US politics
Although they are mostly illegal, foreign interests do contribute to US political campaigns, usually through intermediaries. Sometimes this is CIA money being filtered through other countries to hide it, but there are foreign interests who have a stake in US elections and try to influence the outcome. Korean cult leader Sun Myung Moon's influence on both Bush presidencies is well documented. And let's not forget that foreigners can influence US policy even more directly through US companies -- for example when wealthy Kuwaiti exiles paid American PR firm Hill & Knowlton 11 million USD to (successfully) convince the American public that the Kuwaiti emirate was worth fighting and dying for, effectively dragging this nation into a war that was not in our interests, at the behest of a foreign power. (The Saudis were more forthright; when asked by journalists if they would defend the holy land against Saddam Hussein, they said, why bother, when the Americans, their "white slaves," would do it for them.)

Re:Madison, Wisc rejected the PATRIOT Act last nigOh come on! Do you believe all propaganda or only most of it? A prime example of what Lenin called a "Useful Idiot".
Wishing a terrorist attack on Madison because they do not hold the same narrow minded views as you is something I find despicable and ignorant but to flame is not constructive, so I offer you food for thought.
The patriots who setup the American constitution understood tyrants and the human failings of greed and power lust hence the checks and balances therein. If these checks and balances are removed for whatever excuse, I would certainly smell a rat. Members of the Congress & Senate pledge an oath to uphold the constitution when taking office however; they have just granted Bush the ability to declare war which the constitution clearly forbids and I think this spells trouble.
Everything isn't a cut and dried as you or Bush like to make out, this simplistic view of the world where there are good guys in white hats and bad guys in black hats is childish and ignorant yet you tell others to grow up.
Some Americans who have retained some critical thinking abilities are realising the people in the white house hijacked a nations grief to throw the nation in to a perpetual war. People like you label these anti-American but let me ask you this: When has it ever been American to blindly follow a leader?
Real people will die in the upcoming war against Iraq, real families will grieve for the loss of loved ones and for what? OIL.
Here are a couple of links If terrorists did attack Madison, after going against the Ashcroft patriot act, who would it really help? Certainly Would remind me of the Lavon Affair or maybe closer to Operation Northwoods.

Look to Israel for the source of these DoS viruses
I suspect this virus has been developed by the Israelis to help create Denial of Service attacks against those who oppose Zionism and the attack on Iraq. Sites like What Really Happened, AntiWar, and Stormfront have been hammered by these attacks. Also radio programs like those on the Turner Radio Network have been under attack constantly because of the anti-Zionist views some of their programs air.
They have already been using the Linux worm "Slapper" for these DoS attacks (this has been proven), and now they will have a Windows worm to do the same thing. It is amazing how far people will go to silence free speech! -
Re:I wondered whenA classic case of logical fallacy
:argumentum ad hominem (attack the arguer and not the argument), which highlights your ignorance, furthermore, you even makeup the traits you attack; not so smart as one thinketh eh?But I wonder why this brought on such a vicious personal attack? History shows that censorship is only in the best interests of the censor; hence I am not in favour of net censorship by any government. As for "vitrol [sic] and bigotry", I merely state that I find it hard to believe that people living in caves in Afghanistan could launch a serious cyber attack to bring down the entire Internet, of course this only based on a professional judgement but I'll remind you of this quote from one of your earlier Slashdot comments "How do I know all this? I'm currently a freelance graphic designer and you better believe I know my shit when it comes to copyright."
As for bigoted, this is an odd context to use of the word, the only meaning here being that I am bigoted towards terrorists, well hey if I'm going to be bigoted maybe terrorists are a better choice than just because of someone's hair colour eh? See another one of your comments. Sigh. Initially I thought this was a troll but after looking at your older posts, you seem to have some egotistical need to tell people how incredibly smart you are and how remarkably wrong they are. Congratulations on being the first in my foes list

Re:Conspiracies, nuts, and JFK
The issue is the unbelievable path of one bullet. On it's own, it would be accepted, but other suspicious facts that conflict with the offical theory are enough to make all the coincidences practically impossible.
Whatever you believe about JFK doesn't matter. The fact remains that those rumors that circulate, are most often correct! I know it sounds wrong, but there is ample evidence for it.
World War II for example:
We are told the Hitler was an agressor, but he did everything to make peace with the UK. It was Churchill, who wanted to be a wartime leader, who forced Hitler into war. That also shows that Roosevelt convinced Churchill that the US would enter the war, once the UK did. That alone shows great support for the long-standing rumors (which is a FACT) that FDR not only knew about Pearl Harbor, but provoked Japan to war with the US.
Indeed, all of that I found while trying to find the facts about Sept. 11th. Such as:
Meetings between 9-11 financiers and top intelligence officals
The Bin-Laden Tape was obviously a forgery
The fact the the terrorists could easilly have been disabled by the pilots The article doesn't mention it, but releasing cabin pressure would also have knocked everyone on-board unconscious. It's hard to take over the plane when you have to stay in a seat (where there's an air-mask).
Israeli spies AT LEAST KNEW about the attack plan
Or the Instant message Odigo (an Israel based company with WTC offices) employees recieve 2 hours previous to the attacks. No link since newsbytes shut down... I'm sure you can find the Google cache, or some other, site.
Before I found sites with this type of information, I was basically as trusting as you. Now, I'm convinced that rumors are typically more accurate than the news media, and won't believe a word I'm told, without some actual proof. So, it's not that hard for me to believe that JFK could have been a target of his own government. Hell, it sounds like that's just the case with the Sept 11th attacks.

FBI'S TOP ANTHRAX LETTERS SUSPECT IS JEWISH
I moved this story into its own page because, taken together with the FBI's lame attempt to deny the presence of the Israeli Spy Ring, the story of the FBI's foot dragging in regards to their top suspect in the Anthrax letters betrays a continuing effort to conceal the real perpetrators of the crimes used to justify a war of conquest. In the case of the Anthrax letters, the chief suspect has committed murder of American citizens, yet the FBI is notably lax in pursuing this murder suspect.
03/19/02 FBI ignoring prime suspect in Anthrax letters as hard as they can. Problem is prime suspect isn't Arab. "Evidence linking these Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It's classified information."
-- US official quoted in Carl Cameron's Fox News report on the Israeli spy ring. In other words, the US Government, FBI included, is keeping secret any and all indications that 9-11 and the Anthrax letters were actually perpetrated by anyone other than the Arabs living over all that beautiful oil.
03/24/02 News Story identifying Dr. Philip Zack as the man caught entering the Anthrax storage area at Fort Detrick without authorization.
02/27/02 FBI'S PRIME SUSPECT ON ANTHRAX LETTERS IS JEWISH! No wonder they were dragging their feet.
02/28/02 Salon's story of the attempt to frame Dr. Ayaad Assaad, an Egyptian, for the Anthrax letters
02/20/02 Foreign press picks up story that Anthrax letters were sent by American bio-war scientist ... and that the FBI is dragging its feet on the case.
Already the hate email is pouring in insisting that coverage of this story is "anti-Semitic". Clearly, a certain nation is terrified of this story getting wide coverage.
The time has come to face the unpleasant fact the citizens of the United States may well be the victims of the most incredible hoax in history regarding who is really behind the attacks on the World Trade Towers, the mailing of Anthrax letters to political and media leaders, and even to doubts that Daniel Pearl's killers are actually who we have been told they are.
The fact is that evidence presented to the public as to who was behind 9-11 is largely faked while evidence that links the Israeli Spy/Phone Tapping Ring to the attacks has been classified by the US Government itself, as reported in Carl Cameron's four part story on the spy ring on Fox News (subsequently erased from the mainstream media's web sites).
"reports that Israel was conducting spying activities in the United States may have a grain of truth Note the of second paragraph from the bottom of this story in which a US official admits that even if the Israelis were running a spy ring in the United States, the information would be kept from the American people.
The time has come to seriously consider that the American people are being tricked into a war. Such things are hardly new. Recently declassified documents prove beyond al doubt that Pearl Harbor was not only NOT a surprise, but was the desired result of an 8 step ONI plan written by Arthur H. McCollum and implemented by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in order to trick the people of the United States into a war against Hitler, via the back door of Japan. And according to Victor Ostrovsky, a former Mossad agent, the bombing of Libya during the Reagan administration was the result of a trick played by the Mossad in which a radio transmitter was smuggled into Tripoli and used to create fake radio messages for the US to intercept. The motto of the Mossad is, "By way of deception, thou shalt do war".
The Israeli government has a history of tricking the United States into attacking their enemies for them. A classic example is the Lano Affair.
THE LAVON AFFAIR
In 1954, Israeli agents working in Egypt planted bombs in several buildings, including a United States diplomatic facility, and left evidence behind implicating Arabs as the culprits. The ruse would have worked, had not one of the bombs detonated prematurely, allowing the Egyptians to capture and identify one of the bombers, which in turn led to the round up of an Israeli spy ring. Some of the spies were from Israel, while others were recruited fro the local Jewish population. Israel responded to the scandal with claims in the media that there was no spy ring, that it was all a hoax perpetrated by "anti-Semites". But as the public trial progressed, it was evidence that Israel had indeed been behind the bombing. Eventually, Israeli's Defense Minister Pinhas Lavon was brought down by the scandal, although it appears that he was himself the victim of a frame-up by the real authors of the bombing project, code named "Operation Susannah."
So now we have the present situation. Ruined buildings, dead people, Anthrax in the mail. There is a constant hue and cry to try to blame Arab Muslims by the Israeli government, which seeks to enlarge its territory (Israel has invaded every single nation it shares a border with since its creation) and by the US government, which seeks to grab control of what remains of the world's oil reserves. Either through this mutually reinforcing agenda, of perhaps because of blackmail of our officials by Israel, the US has become Israel's partner in this hoax, which leads us to the reason for the US to classify evidence that links Israel's arrested spies with the events of 9-11.
"Evidence linking these Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It's classified information."
-- US official quoted in Carl Cameron's Fox News report on the Israeli spy ring.
History teaches us that since the dawn of the industrial age, all wars have been started with deceptions and manufactured provocations. Hitler staged a fake attack from Poland to start WW2. FDR maneuvered Japan into attacking the fleet at Pearl Harbor then presented the attack as a total surprise to the American people.
Evidence that 9-11 is another such deception mounts every day. Almost a year ago, in March 2001, long before the attacks on the World Trade Towers, while the American people were being distracted by "All Condit, All The Time", the United States Government was already informing other nations of plans to invade Afghanistan in October, 2001. And, in October 2001, the United States did in fact invade Afghanistan, right on schedule, which means that the attacks on the World Trade Towers occurred at just the exact moment when the United States needed a population angry enough to support a war.
Have we been hoaxed? Would someone really sacrifice some buildings (as FDR sacrificed some ships) to start a war? Against the $5 trillion worth of oil under the Caspian Sea, the price of a new World Trade Center in New York is just pocket change, a cheap price to pay indeed for control of such vast oil reserves, and an even better deal if the oil under Iraq can be added to the prize package, especially for a government too deeply in debt to get out without massive conquests of someone else's resources.
The fact that the Anthrax Letters were NOT sent by an Arab Muslim but by a Jewish gentleman with the intent to FRAME an Arab Muslim strongly suggests that the entire sequence of recent events has been one gigantic frame-up, which would explain again why the US Government is itself classifying evidence that links some of the arrested Israeli spies with the events of 9-11.
History may be repeating itself again. We cannot afford to dismiss the possibility that, once again, Americans are the victims of a hoax designed to trick them into sacrificing their wealth and the lives of their children in a war of someone else's making; a war of the worst kind, war for profit and empire.

I like your post, but how would the notion of stolen identities play into this? what really happened has links to stories that a number of the supposed "saudi suicide terrorists" were turning up still living - i.e., they'd had their identity usurped. Specifically, why would someone want to implicate saudi arabians in the attacks? (genuine question, i'm just thinking out loud here)

Re:Openness leads to enlightenment
The biggest threat right now is if Israel's govt. suddently decided world-opinion and the US money could go fuck themselves. Who would restrain them? Certainly not the Arabs
The Arabs have jet aircraft, tanks, etc. The Israelis invaded a province armed with light illegal AK-47. The resistance they faced is the same as if Missouri invaded Kentucky. Right now the Israeli's have had < 1% military losses. If Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran decide to defend their fellow kinsmen (same as the US decided to defend England in WW2) there's gonna be serious trouble. Isreal is such a small country that a low-flying jet could be over Bethlehem and Eilat 2 minutes after crossing the border. Israel will retailiate with nukes. Then we'll see what weapons Saddam *really* has... In this case tactically Iraqi advanced weapons should be pre-empted - ahhh, this explains why Bush wants to kick some Iraqi butt.Maybe the CIA knew that this would be necessary in advance and engineered the invasion of Kuwait via the US Ambassador telling Saddam basically "We don't care if you invade." And so the big picture falls into place... And here us
/.'ers are thinking we can spot conspiracy theories a mile off, our pathetic little CDBTTPACBTA is all we can comprehend. -
What's really behind this?Just when the elite were starting to lose their ability to spy on and blackmail US citizens, etc... we get this kick to give their corporations more money to boost in their currently deployed tapping infrastructure.
The elite must be worried, so they need to tighten the grip on us. Too many people busy trying to figure out what really happened last September, and there is a real danger to the forces in power that democracy might break out.

Motiviation for Disclosure
One reason cited for why Reporters (those who find flaws) go public:
...malicious intent to damage the reputations of specific vendors
If you find a glitch with a competitors product, why is it automatically evil to publicly disclose? One valid tactic of advertising (in the US) is to denigrate competing products. When Microsoft announced that Windows NT beat Linux in performace tests, did they give Linus private notice and 30 days to respond before issuing the press release? Does Compaq let IBM know beforehand that it has better TPC numbers? After Dateline NBC staged exploding gas tanks, did the Wall Street Journal give them a month to come clean before revealing the scam?
If you worked at Be in 1998 knew of a fundamental, nearly unfixable flaw in Windows, how much time would you grant Microsoft to address it? -
Re:If you liked Disinfo, try these--I believe that sites such as these deserve as much attention as possible by pointing out the underside of many mainstream media stories. This serves the very useful purpose of encouraging us all to THINK and to QUESTION what we think we know.
However, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Let's take Whatreallyhappened.com as an example.
Structure of the content: It seems like every newly posted announcement is fighting for the reader's attention. Important titles are blue, blue bold, sometimes red - it is not consistent. This gives the site a real 'student' feel and stops it from being taken seriously.
Tone of the writing on the site and in the linked articles: Swearing, hyped-up and excitable-sounding phrases and excessive use of punctuation make you feel like you're reading the Weekly World News or the National Enquirer.
And most importantly: BACK IT UP. Whatreallyhappened often seems to link to any site that disagrees with the mainstream. Just look at any of the links that appear on the main page to 'reputable' sites like rense.com or a host of local/hobbyist news sites.
Once again, I applaud what the owners of these sites are trying to do. But it needs to be done right if it's going to be taken seriously. -
Re:Regulated shmegulated
I would love to follow that link, I really would.
I have looked at What Really Happened before and found it interesting, if paranoid to a fault. You referred to an essay which I would love to read, but I can't.
Apparantly, some time between this morning Aus time (the last time I looked at it) and now, The site has gone down. Hard. Try it for yourself: I got a 'does not have a DNS entry' error.
That can't be good. -
Re:Regulated shmegulated
I laugh whenever I'm in a situation where someone tells me "Hey! It's a free country".
No it isn't. You don't have the freedom to do a lot of things. Sure we're freer than a lot of other countries but that's changing.
I recently read a great essay called "The Rise of the Fourth Reich" which compares G.W Bush to Hitler.
Read it for yourself here
Anyway I fear a country where people are given the constitutional right to own a firearm at the age of 12 but if you're caught smoking a harmless joint you'll go to jail.
Or where a gang of white police offers can be caught red handed on video tape beating a black man with billy clubs but they're set free to go.
Or where a forieng programmer can be thrown in jail for 5 months without a trial for writing a program that may cost a rich company a few dollars.
That's not freedom and I won't pretend that it is. I refuse to be ignorant and complacent. In fact, what I fear even more than the country itself is it's ignorant and complacent citizens that let it be that way.

Re:Script Kiddies? Really?Heh, don't ask the nasty question "Who stands to gain the most from this"... I did it with September 11th, and I didn't like what I found.

Re:the US is a police state
er, i wasn't actually saying the US was currently a police state, i was just using that as a subject..
what i found interesting on that site was a comparison between current US events, and events in Germany right before WWII. it's eerily similar. -
the US is a police state
At the moment the US, UK and much of the EEC slide slowly toward a police state.
i spent most of yesterday reading this site. this site could be dismissed as just conspiracy theory, but the points raised are backed with evidence, and quite alarming.
thank god i don't live in the US. -
Re:Unfortunately, an end to warsWhich one of you idiot mods shot this down as a troll?
Check here for starters, and read some Noam Chomsky if you think you're smart enough to handle objective thinking with evidence to back it up.
Oh, I forgot, you don't get paid to think. You get paid to vote for
.NET in online polls, and flood newsgroups and Slashdot with reports of how stable XP is. My mistake. Go about your business.Adolph Hitler

Re:Friends, Foes, Alliances
Not to be TOO much of a geek, but in University Law I studied the German Legal System under the Nazi Party, and the system was very teleological; judges were basically instructed to focus on the facts that would support their desired political end. For example, if a German raped a Jewish woman, *she* was imprisoned for "purposely destroying the moral character" of an upstanding young Aryan. The judge would give greater weight to the facts which supported his (and the party's) racist ideals, and dismiss opposing facts as irrelevant or inadmissible. Your "insular ignorance" is a very apt description of it.
No comment about what's happening in America right now. We're a lot more unstable than people think. I believe our politicians are allowing, (or even forcing) instability on us in order to effect sweeping changes to the system. Changes which will swing the balance of power further in favor of "the house". Very few are being objective about September 11th and its aftermath. Who stands to gain the most? As should be obvious by now, it's not Afghanistan.
Yes, I am very paranoid, but only because my job requires me to deal with the government on a very regular basis. Their mindset has convinced me that distrust of authority and extreme caution is a survival requirement in today's political, legal, and economic climates.
And no, Adolf Hitler isn't my real name.
My real name is Colt Python. -
Friends, Foes, Alliances
Aaaah, the best new feature of Slashdot is not having to read opposing arguments, so I can live in my own little world, untouched by reality. Forget the truth, I only want to hear my own opinions, and believe that every one else has the exact same opinion as me. That's what being an American is about, especially in these TRYING TIMES.
Friends and Foes are NICE, but we can be just like Survivor if we try a bit harder, making alliances, breaking your enemies, backstabbing the other posters. We can make Slash into a real interactive game!
Couple of points. I want to be able to set my threshold at -1 or lower to read, I don't want to waste my time with anything 0 or greater. I come here to read the trolls, as do many others.
When posting, I want to flag my post as "for" or "against" the topic, so I can only read the arguments which support my own views. Yup, I wanna live in ignorance. Ignorance is bliss, and I want bliss.
I also wanna be able to mod others as "The Weakest Link", but there's probably some trademark stuff on the term, so "Flaming Goddam Moron" will do.
Thanks a bundle.
Your pal,
Adolf Hitler
