Re:$80k? Our politicians could learn something
At least Soros pays his protesters direct, jeez. These Russians are amateurs in comparison.
Not always. Do a google search for #cutthecheck, the hashtag started by BLM useful tools that didn't get their payment.
Also, there's this little gem of antifa protesting not getting paid.

Re: The key is not getting caught
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
If you use statistics, you should use them well. There is no correlation between race, but there is between demographics and crime rate.
Blacks are 14 times more likely to be killed by other blacks (which is way higher than by cops, btw) than whites are by whites: is this proof they're racist against each other?
It seems it is incomprehensible to you, but try to leave your emo-bias out of it, and think logically: if you have hundred blacks where 80 are committing crimes, and you have 100 whites, where 20 are committing crimes, the police is going to arrest - indeed - 4 times more blacks than whites. And rightly so. This DOES NOT show any racist motives on the part of the police.
-
Re: The key is not getting caught
Not if you take the demographics in account. The correlation is not between killing and race; cops do not kill based on race, but based on the amount of criminal activity.

Re:Not exactly
And of course, it is not as if the U.S. isn't doing exactly the same thing. Sponsoring pro-US politicians/movements in other countries in the hope of favourable outcome.
And if that doesn't work, we sponsor rebels and arm them with weapons to take out the government by force. i.e. Afghanistan in the 1980's, Libya, Syria (throw in some false flag gas attacks), Iran will be next.
Plan was laid out years ago.

Re:The key is not getting caught
...If they had Hilary would probably be president
Trump won because there are a lot of foolish Americans who bought up the line of shit Trump was selling. Bring back jobs (reanimate the corpse of the late Steve Jobs)! Build the wall (and pay for it by selling grappling hooks to Mexicans)! Make healthcare affordable (by kicking off the sick people, duh)! Lock up Hillary (???)! Abolish the EPA (How bad can that possibly be?)! MAGA (Buy a stupid red hat)!
Hillary never really managed to coalesce her voter base around anything quite as rousing. The best thing she had going for her was that she wasn't Trump. She needed a miracle, not some protesters staying home.

Re:A lot of money does not make you a good person
It's not a good way to distribute wealth to people, unless you have no idea of equitable distribution.
First it needs to be pointed out that capitalism does by far the best at making ALL of the population wealthier, including the poor. Really, it is. Sure, the rich can and do get richer, but that does not take away from somebody else, and by extension, it's a total myth that the poor are getting poorer; this is just something that marxists say because they think of the economy as being zero-sum, but it isn't. (Karl Marx was stupidly ignorant about human behavior, and how material wealth can literally be created from nothing, furthermore his ideas were based on assumptions that were only relevant during the early days of the industrial revolution.) If you don't believe any of this, here are some hard numbers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Also, and I know anti-capitalist people love stories about how the world is going to hell and we need a glorious revolution to fix it...but, the world is not actually going to hell, and is in fact improving...a lot...especially as economies turn to capitalism:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Second of all, I don't need an idea of that. Nobody does. Unequal wealth is a part of any healthy economy. Socialism, as much as it tries to fight unequal wealth, still has unequal wealth in every implementation that has ever existed (What's worse, the poor in socialist economies have practically no hope at all towards improving their economic conditions, only high ranking members of the only legal political party can do this. In fact, capitalism democratizes wealth far better than any other economic system.)
Unregulated capitalism divides the people into the owner class and the scrabbling-for-a-living class.
No prominent economists argue against regulation (except maybe Thomas Sowell on most issues, but the guy is smart as hell, and his reasons are actually quite good and manage to hold true historically.) But that aside, there is no such thing as economic classes; it's all one big spectrum. People "scrabbling for a living" as you put it, at least in the US's system, can easily avoid that right this second if they want to, especially people in LA and San Francisco; all they have to do is not live beyond their means. Living in an expensive urban area when you are on minimum wage is in fact living beyond your means.
As a society, we really should make a difference between people who get rich making stuff or providing services with little external cost, and people who get rich by doing things harmful to society.
There are already laws against things like theft, fraud, etc. And the definition of harmful seems to vary from person to person, but there is actually a variation of capitalism that specifically prevents people from doing things that the society at large deems harmful, it's called fascism. Germany and Italy in particular banned alcohol production and pornography, because they were deemed harmful to society. One man's harm is another man's pleasure, and fascism sucks.
The happiest countries in the world are those that are wealthy, have capitalistic economies, and have strong government support for people and restrictions on what business can get away with.
Not necessarily what businesses can get away with, but what people can get away with. It's called a criminal justice system. Economies of any kind cannot work without the rule of law.

Re:This is about third party software, not esp. OS
dwheeler commented:
This isn't about open source software, or "compliance" regarding open source software. This is about failing to do timely security updates of reused third-party software. It doesn't matter if it's open source software or not. If you use third-party software, you need to update that software when a security update happens, and you have to do it BEFORE an attacker exploits it.
This has been necessary for decades. Haven't you ever updated an operating system because a vulnerability was found in it? Of course you have. If you reuse software, and you embed it in something you use or deploy, then you need to update when the reused software has a security vulnerability. One advantage of open source software today is that there are tools that make it easier to monitor and update. But you still have to be prepared for security updates. You can do this by monitoring updates, using package managers to let you easily update, having automated tests so you can verify that the update is okay, and by having a deployment system so you can send out your update. All of this is available. Check out this video for an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
.If you don't keep your software patched in a timely way, you get p0wned. That's how it works. That's ALWAYS been how it works.

Re:I blame car makers
Clearly we need more parked cars and fences along the road for people to hit instead of pedestrians and bicyclists. Get those bad drivers off the road before they do any real damage!
Unfortunately, transportation engineers have been facilitating the opposite by removing roadside trees and therefore violating their code of ethics to protect public safety. Isn't it ironic when they widen streets to make it easier for paramedics to respond to collisions caused by wide streets?
That and other reasons are why transportation engineers are the stooges of the engineering profession.
-
Re:I blame car makers
You actually bring up a _much_ bigger problem -- WHY is the driver even taking their eyes off the road in the first place?
We have had the technology for **decades** for HUD (Heads Up Display) -- i.e. the speedometer + other stats is projected onto the windshield.
But everyone is too cheap to make it a standard Of course HUDs aren't perfect but it is a step in the right direction.
Making HUDs standard, along with your idea of standardizing holders for smart phones on the dash -- cars would be safer. But I guess we don't value safety enough.
--
Censorship IS precisely the problem, not the solution. -
Re:Those were the days.
There is a solution here you are not seeing.
There is an alternative solution to the one mentioned above that I prefer, learn to benefit from the crisis, a crisis is an opportunity, start thinking how to use this opportunity.

SSL may not help
While the attack would result in decrypting any clear text being sent over wifi, the saving grace is that an increasing amount of traffic is sent via HTTPS or SSL, which would provide an additional barrier to an attacker seeing login credentials for remote websites, etc.
If you watch the video posted by Mathy Vanhoef, you'll see at 1:16 he's also using sslstrip.

Re:Preaching the AI religion
Self driving cars do not require AI. A simple algorithm not only suffices, but can provide mathematically optimal results for the criteria.
Actually it's simpler in math form
If simple algorithms are sufficient we would have had SDCs by now. Hell, if *any* current algorithmic approach was sufficient we would have had SDCs by now. What we have now is an incremental improvement to what we had in the mid-nineties. Considering that the computing resource for SD has increased over 1000x but the SD improvements increased by low single-digit percentages I don't think it's a success.
For the last five years we've been hearing how SDCs are only five years away. I'm still hearing it. I predict that in 2019 we will be hearing how SDCs are only five years away.

Re:Who is being trolled?
At what point do we ask why this guy is given billions of dollars in state and federal subsidies (which is promptly burned)?
If you're referring to the auto industry loans, Tesla paid them back, with interest, years ahead of time. Unlike part of the Big Three loans. If you're referring to EV subsidies, they're available to any manufacturer, and more to the point were specifically designed to be based on the size of the Chevy Volt's battery pack. It's amusing to see the Big Three struggling against an environment that they crafted.
His latest car factory is actually human powered
It depends on what you mean. If you mean, "There are humans involved in stages of the manufacturing process", yes - but more to the point, you're describing every car factory on Earth. If you mean there's no robotic manufacturing, that's wrong. If you mean "the factory is not fully set up / tuned and requires more manual labour than it will in the end", no-freaking-duh, that's the very reason for announced S curve production plan. Most manufacturers, for a new line, will set it up and work on it for about half a year before starting sale of their production. This is not the approach Tesla is taking. While the plant is most definitely being set up for massive volumes, they are at present one month behind their planned production level at this point in time, and even that planned level was only two cars per hour.
and products are overpriced
Nearly half a million people have disagree with you, and put their money behind their disagreement.
Competition is coming,
Hahahahaha
;)Sorry, it's just we've heard this constantly for the past decade. And there are no signs that anyone else is taking this seriously, despite their best PR efforts to come across that way. Nobody else is working on similar battery production volumes for any given production year. Nobody else is pouring nearly as much money into production and R&D (100% of Tesla's EV-related spending - excepting that directly dedicated to vehicle production, which earns 25% margins - goes into this. Billions per quarter at present). The competitors are literally missing a "0" at the end of their investment figures from what they need to be investing. Nobody else is even remotely close on fast charging networks, the key differentiating factor that actually lets you do long trips in your vehicle. The closest announcement - VW's network (forced on them by CARB) - will not even get close to what Tesla has today when it's done, let alone the scale of Tesla's network by that point in time.
It's funny watching all of the people who see concept cars announced, compare them to Tesla's offerings today, and saying "See, Tesla is about to face serious competition!" Because, again, we've seen this for a decade, but more importantly, it expresses a profound ignorance about how concept cars work. What you see presented as a concept car does not make it to production like that. Regardless of what the company says. They're not designed to be affordable to build, to meet crash standards, to be remotely efficient, and on and on. Most never go to production at all. When they do, they look radically worse (here was the concept Volt, for example), perform worse, and are priced worse. And they only try to sell them where there's pressure on them to sell EVs. Take the Bolt, for example. Go to a Chevy dealership in a ZEV state and there will be Bolts on the lot, and they'll actually push them. Go to one in a non-ZEV state, and the situation is reversed.
Competition is coming,
Hahahahaha

Apple
Stupid articles will be phased out and eliminated 20 years from now, too!
(Actually, that's more likely!)Meanwhile, it's been 8 years since Apple got rid of keyboards:

Credit Cards Existed Long Before CC Terminals
Has nobody seen Home Alone 2? Using electricity to process a CC purchase is relatively new. This is a solved problem.

The problem is not with credit cards, but incompetent cashiers and owners who cannot handle changing situations. -
rhyme
The lyrics don't rhyme or even flow in "Linus Said." The videography and audio is good, though; but "meh". I bet a lot of people wouldn't finish it and then skip the second....
"25 Years" is much better! Like
:) Just jump to/share that one:

Ever hear of an LRAD?
"Sound experts and physicians say they know of no sound that can cause physical damage", but there is indeed one that the japanese use on a regular basis against my Sea Shepherd comrades! It's called the LRAD. The Long Range Acoustic Device's purpose is to make sound - lots of sound. It produces very loud sound that is audible over relatively long distances. But it's not limited to producing painful noise for use as a weapon which causes disorientation. It can also amplify voices or recordings to a level that is loud and clear but not painful or debilitating. It's usually used for "non-lethal, non-kinetic crowd control". https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Relevant song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml6FNJAiH8I
That was awful. There has to be 20 songs based on SMB that are better.
