Making threats, i.E. declaring the intend to commit a serious crime against an individual or groups, is not protected speech in Germany. If you say that you'll kill someone and torture and kill their family if they do not comply with your demands, you're free to say it. But it'll most likely have consequences if they file charges and have tangible evidence.
Inciting criminal behaviour, like violence and arbitrary acts against individuals or groups, is not protected speech in Germany. If you say that immigrants and refugees are scum, vermin, parasites that have to be removed from the face of Earth. That they deserve to be burned alive and that everyone who helps getting rid of them is not a criminal but a true patriot. You're also free to say this, but it may have consequences if someone files charges and they have tangible evidence.
There are defamation in Germany, but the cases are notoriously difficult to prove in court if the defendant does not confess to their malicious intend out of their own volition. Otherwise it requires extensive evidence. For example if you ran a public smear campaign against an individual or a group, you might get in trouble. But posting something on facebook, twitter, instagram or the likes most likely won't have consequences.

TL;DW - A feminist panelist at a conference recognizes a critic in the audience and uses her position behind the mic to berate and insult him. There's one big difference though: The grid has a fairly substantial (relatively) fixed cost that you don't have -- they've got to maintain thousands of miles of cables and poles and transformers and other equipment. Their responsibility doesn't stop at the power plant's land border like your home system does.

So getting cheaper power generation only goes so far, even with their scaling potential, because those fixes costs are well.. fixed.. and have to be amortized across all of the kWh they sell. As each kWh gets cheaper (and assuming non-increasing usage,) the percentage of cost per kWh that goes to cover fixed costs increases relative to the percentage that covers generation costs.

As the per-kWh percentage approaches zero, it becomes harder for the grid to compete with smaller installations that don't have such high fixed costs to deal with -- whether individual home installations or community microgrids or whatever.

But the grid has advantages that we'll lose as well, such as redundancy and the ability to bear sudden large spikes (or drops) without serious issue. Here's a rather humorous video on the topic. The smaller you go, the harder it is to deal with things like that (though presumably, such events would also be less common and a smaller spike when they do happen.)

Do you remember the 8 track limitations on track size/length ? It is hard to think of a more disruptive thing than the change of track in the middles of a song. I had and used 4 track reel to reel players for a long time, but 8 track really sucked all around. Cassettes were much better...

I have heard this argument so many times, but it is flawed. You are looking at jobs as if they are static fixed things like physical goods. That is simply not the case. Many immigrants move to a new country and START a business. Are they stealing your children's jobs too?

What happens to your 'they are stealing the jobs' argument in the next 50 years as the Earth's median population gets older and older? In 1950 the average age of a human being on earth was under 30. Right now the average age worldwide is around 33 years old. In the USA it is 38 years and that 5 year difference represents a vast population of aging baby-boomers born after WWII that require ever increasing care. (Well at least for the next 25 or 30 years) Demographically at some point you are going to have to choose whether you want your parents to be taken care of by immigrants or robots. There simply won't be enough working age 'americans' to do the work. In case you think I'm lying or making things up, just visit any assisted living facility anywhere in the US. It's already happening. There is and always will be a place in America for immigrants. If there were no jobs here for them they would not come here legally or otherwise. My grandparents came here from eastern europe fleeing tyrany, war and starvation in the early 20th century. Who am I to turn down someone coming here today for the exact same reason?! What kind of hypocrite would I be?
