Re:Not drones
Meh...
Given the availability of high power lasers to the general public and guidance systems, just create a drone killer that you install on the roof. Anything that crosses your property line lower than (whatever the lawyers say) is continually lased until it either leaves or falls from the sky.
If they can zap a Mosquito then a drone can't be too hard,.

Re: The technology is not ready yet
An autopilot is an assistant. It is in airplanes, and it is in cars. Various levels of sophistication exist. The simplest airplane autopilots can only fly straight ahead at a given altitude. The most complex ones can actually land an airplane, if the pilots program it correctly and are ready with their hands on the controls to take over at any time when necessary.
The question whether or not you have to hold the controls is dictated by the environment, not the capabilities of the device. At high altitude, sure, we can let go of the controls. During an automatic landing: no way. I have actually had to perform a go-around during an automatic approach because the system was not working properly, and I only do a couple of automatic approaches per year (only in low visibility conditions).
The Tesla autopilot is undoubtedly more sophisticated than any airplane autopilot in existence today, but obviously has to deal with a much more difficult and unpredictable environment. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be called an autopilot. Ask any actual pilot.
The only thing Tesla did wrong, is demonstrate their autopilot with their hands off the wheel. Even Elon Musk did so himself. But there's nothing wrong with the name "autopilot". And seriously, do you think people would not drive it hands-off if it had a different name?

Re:Case Backwards
If you look at this from another perspective, Jennifer Youngman was just in the process of test-firing one of her just-cleaned shotguns, when a drone,
Ah, the "Its coming right for us" defense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
to fly their drone in a public recreation area, or drone park, instead of over private property, their loss could have been avoided.
The gunman even admitted it was blown onto her property by a strong wind. So no.

Jones denies hack
In this video he briefly denies the hack: https://youtube.com/watch?v=yf4xdGm0Nfs
Jones' dismissal sounds somewhat uninformed. But it also sounds like VICE/Motherboard saw a hashed file and then paid for only a few cracked hashes.
Sounds like Jones is claiming the "cracked hashes" were stooge accounts.
There should have been a headline a few days ago, "Hillary thinks it is worth her time to attack Alex Jones."

Re:Next Phase
...while posing no collateral risk to your own forces...
My money is on the shotgun being far safer in every way, as well as more readily available and inexpensive.
shotgun: about $200 - $300
shotgun shells: 100 for around $20
not only takes down drone, but may make the pieces smaller and less dangerous to those on the ground when it falls from the air
mass produced, tested, standard, safeties in place, well known interface and readily available training for those that don't know it
has other legitimate uses, like defending ones self from the drone owner when he comes to pick up the bits (see the case from TFS)Silly string: $1.60 - $2.50 per can
Silly string is flammable**: https://www.youtube.com/result...
Compressed air solution:
* compressor: expensive and not portable (luggable maybe)
* co2 cartridges: not enough capacity at normal sizes
* compressed air cylinders: good luck lugging those around for long (or for many shots)
Safety systems on your homemade PoS potato gun: none
If you manage to hit anything with this, and if it works (which is unlikely), the whole thing is going to fall into your people while some rotors are probably still spinning savagely.
If it comes down, it's probably going to be severely damaged by the fall.
Single taskers are bad, just ask Alton Brown.Hopefully you just have a case of NIH syndrome, and not some silly fear of 165+yr old tech.
** they make non-flammable ones these days too, but someone will put the wrong stuff in your home made gun

They don't say burkas either.
They don't say "female skin is evil".
It's me making fun of their "logic and reasoning".
Do also note that said "negative imagery" of women showing skin is from "FAMILY FILMS" - not porn or even action movies where one might see some "sex sells" scenes.
They are complaining about beach scenes and short skirts and sleeves. Unless they are watching some other kind of "family films".Which is just half a step away from women covering their hair cause its smell clouds the minds of men - and cause a woman whose smell you can sense on the air is a harlot and a prostitute.
Thus, a hijab, niqab, chador and a burka. To protect men from raping women (belonging to other men) by accident, thinking them to be common whores.
Hey! It's the desert. It gets hot. People's minds go crazy. SOMETHING had to be done about it.Or if you don't like Islamic insanity, there's plenty of puritan Christian insanity as well.
Just look up St. Mary frescoes (not the modern ones, which show hair) - she's wearing a hijab.
Nuns are closer to a niqab but stop just short of covering the entire face.
Except this is all coming from "Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media" and not some religious sect.
And DO NOTE how that entire bit is an "additional" point.
Women are underrepresented in media - oh and by the way there's too much naked skin in family pictures. It's like that site about overpopulation being a myth (Which is true).
Oh... BTW, have you tried "natural family planing"? It's this totally the bestest thing ever.
Unlike the evils of "plan b", contraception that will give you AIDS and Obamacare. Think about it.
What a surprise from a group proudly describing themselves and their found as "pro-life".I'm not saying that it is necessarily "foot in the door" or "door in the face" push for puritan values.
It could be simply that they are overeager to push their message that they are tripping over themselves and coming off as puritan nuts.Just like the way they are bragging that "The Institute has amassed the largest body of research on gender prevalence in entertainment, which spans more than 20 years". Few paragraphs down, it's "over 25 years".
The institute was founded by Davis in 2006.Or how they brag about influencing SONY so they "added more females in the crowd scenes and gave the non-lead females a line or two" - in Hotel Transylvania.
Cause nothing says equality like more female monsters. There AND in Monster University. With a "line or two".
Not to mention the Geena Davis' Transylvanian connotations.
Or how they've helped "fix" the inequality in The Little Prince.
Cause nothing says equality like shoehorning female characters into a classic story - and making them into no-fun, gray-colored fun-haters who must be re-educated to learn how to have fun and to love.
By a man. They may be good-natured, but their approach sure is flawed.

Re:Wow... that's pretty harsh.
The thing is, I've been following the "Sean Murray lied" discussion on Reddit and I keep seeing some people make claims about statements, for example claiming Murray said that it was an MMO, or that a certain feature was in the game.
But when I go to check it out, it turns out that Murray just said some "maybe" statement or "as of right now in the current build" vague statement, or we find out that the feature is in the game but they just haven't seen it yet.
For example, someone in this Slashdot discussion said the only ship upgrades were for pulse, beams, warp and shields....but that's factually incorrect.
Or that there are no differences between ship classes, when there are. Ship HP and maneuverability varies by ship type.
Or claiming there is no questline, when there IS. (though since you have to interact with wreckage at your start point, some players don't find it right off)
Or that there are no large scale battles, when there are.
Now if you're talking about meeting other players, SM made various vague statements with qualifier words. For example saying "you should be able to do that" is not the same as "you WILL be able to do that". And more than once he emphasized that players shouldn't focus on any multiplayer aspects because the game was essentially single-player. "What will reasonably happen is that you'll run into a planet someone has discovered before" "It is not a game about a deathmatch." "It is not what people should be thinking about"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
I'm sometimes think that most of the vitriol on reddit is coming from non-native english speakers or austistic spectrum types who don't get nuance of language, playing the PC version.

Re: Idiots Rule The World
The best choice, IMO, is to vote third-party; if enough people did that, they wouldn't be "third parties" any more.
Of course there will be, the voting system the US uses pretty much guarantees a two-party system. You can make one of the third parties into one of the two (just ask the Whigs) but we still will have a two party system. The only way to change this is to change the way we vote, which will never happen because the people who have the power to enact such a change directly benefit from maintaining the status quo (the same reason congressional term limits and campaign finance reform are never going to happen). If you would like to know why the two party system is a direct result of first past the post voting, this video explains it nicely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re:Growing Profits
What happens when there is no more profitable innovating? The iPhone (or similar device) had been predicted by many for decades. Even science fiction is out of ideas now. Sure there is some stuff, but nothing really mass marketable.
A $200 gadget that will do everything that you carry around in your pocket? Cool. 3D George Washington? Meh. Driving Mars rovers around - limited application. Nanotech is the only thing left, but until we get to the point of grey goo, it will also have limited scope.
That's why we see so much hypi ng of technologies today. Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes. 3D printing? IoT?

Re:Given the reviews
Here is a good example from the bad old days, new games aren't USUALLY this bad but I chose this because its rather easy to see the pop in...notice how it looks like the path ahead is clear then suddenly mountains and other terrain just magically appear in front of the ship? That is pop in which is caused when a game for whatever reason is simply incapable of rendering in objects before they come close enough to the player for the player not to notice their being drawn...THAT is pop in and its irritating as hell and pretty much kills any sense of immersion in the game world.

So far it seems a lot like Starflight by Electronic Arts which I loved as a kid, and I'm happy with that.
After watching a review by a frustrated player my first thought was "meh, I'd rather play Starflight."

Actually it is worse then that. This is a list of things that Sean said were in the game, implied they were, or where shown in the trailers. Some things made it in, a lot of things didn't:

When a game has a price of $60 gamers expect a certain level of polish and completeness to it. Go figure.

If the devs had been more upfront about what is and isn't in the game, and the priced itself at $20, basically followed Minecraft's development, gamers would be much more forgiving of an incomplete game.

Seven Minutes of Terror
You know what else delivers its payload with a tether, then flies away?
For the answer, watch Seven Minutes of Terror -- the best video ever produced by the U.S. Government.

Re:Feminist/SJW Echo Chamber Circling The Bowl
I don't give a shit about that professional inciter. SJWs do. And that's basically all that makes him relevant in any way, that's his gimmick. That guy simply noticed that pushing trigger buttons he can get a huge reaction, and by broadcasting it, he gains followers who are entertained by people going apeshit over perceived slights. That's basically all there is behind that Milo guy. He's only relevant because SJWs make him relevant. If they simply went "tsk, buzz off, fag", he's have vanished into oblivion before he even appeared on the radar. Instead, he's now an internet phenomenon. Yes, he is pretty good at rhetoric and he knows how to make flashy appearances, but seriously, he wouldn't have half the impact without SJWs pretty much building his stage and propping him up by staging protests that are so badly organized that he can easily turn them around and make the SJWs protesting him basically his cheerleaders.
And that's already one paragraph more than I'd want to dedicate to this person.
What I am talking about is valid, sensible arguments being considered "harassment". Disagreeing with someone and making an argument is not harassment. I am talking about the various well worded and sensible arguments made why people wouldn't watch that movie that were instantly slandered as being misogynist, without even considering the arguments. Allow me to point at the short YouTube announcement James Rolfe made concerning him not going to watch the movie.
Note that Rolfe is not a professional critic, let alone one that works for any kind of important movie review magazine. He's doing movie reviews on his channel, but they are a side project between his own work and the one thing he's actually known for, reviewing ancient video games in a humorous fashion. When you watch his "non-review", you'll even notice that he talks more about reboots and remakes in general and the history of Ghostbusters in general than why he doesn't want to watch the movie.
The reaction it generated was simply insane.

Re:And he still chain smokes
It's not surprising to see the western media censoring the second most remarkable fact about this fellow -- he still smokes video. Similarly, the officially recognized longest living man and woman on the world and only two humans verified to have lived beyond 120 years of age were both smokers (Jean Calment and Shigechiyo Izumi.
Unlike that non-English video where he smokes almost throughout, in this English speaking video, they blur his cigarette in a crude attempt to hide the fact that doesn't fit in our antismoking Matrix. With the reporter's strong antismoking position thus clear, the implication is that he couldn't get several minutes of continuous footage without the old timer lighting up i.e. the fellow must still be practically chain smoking (not unusual among Indonesian man).
Tar is a pretty good preservative. Cf, the LaBrea Tar Pits....

Re:50 hours of crap.
For those who have someone escaped the drama associated with NMS and want to learn what all the fuss is about, this review does a great job of explaining - not just listing the missing features, but showing the emotional impact it had on fans who were incredibly hyped for the game.
There are some scam games on Steam that are designed to last two hours to get past the refund limit.
No Man's Sky is one of these.
I think that may be accidental - at least, I don't credit the devs with the skill to cook that up. The problem here is that the game is missing nearly every promised feature, but there's no way to discover that until you leave the first planet. Then it all turns to shit. The timing, specifically, was likely a coincidence, but Hello Games definitely knew what they were shitting out.
Also, the game crashes frequently even on console, but it can go hours between crashes. For PC, we're used to that sort of shit, and while I think that's still worth a refund, you wouldn't get mass outrage. On the console OTOH, Just Works (TM) is the freaking point of console games.
Still, had the game not been missing almost every promised feature, I think the player base would have been content to wait for a patch to fix the crashes.

Re:Skyrim video is fake
The is shit in crowd need to have their balls stomped on after being set on fire.
Most OS are designed to run on actual hardware. Virtualization is great for servers where the primary focus is the NIC(s) and not the GPU(s).
ie : Stop trying to expect great performance when you are trying to fit a square cube through a small round hole.
Yes
... BUT ONLY for type 2 hypervisors. VirtualBox, VMWare Player/Workstation are both crappy and horrible hypervisors which do not access hardware directly and use buggy drivers on the guest OSes and then use a bugger host wrapper to communicate with the host drivers and OS.Type 1 hypervisors such as KVM support gaming with full hardware access.Shoot Linus went crazy and got 7 freaking +90 FPS battle going with 7 AMD video cards with full native performance!
So yes with a right hypervisor such as Hyper-V Win10 pro anniversary edition, VMWare ESX, and KVM you can use the OS very close to the bare metal as a type 1 hypervisor goes underneath the os at ring -1 inside the CPU.
KVM is free and so are some tools and Hyper-V is there for cheap if you use Windows Home or free if you have Windows 10 pro to run ReactOS.

Re:And surprise surprise...
Your scepticism is understandable, but extensive video footage of the event has been released.
I hope this sets your mind at ease.
And extensive video footage has been released showing that NASA reached, walked upon, golfed upon, "danced" upon, and drove upon the Moon. And STILL Buzz Aldrin has to deck idiots, every so often.
Some people will not have their minds set at ease by anything but their eventual death.
