Video
Unknown how it works, what is done to the mechanism, is it doing it by itself or is it hand-steered (looks like it) and what else is happening, how does the car light up and looking at the mirror images reflected on the car.....
Mechanism is not shown, in particular, how the car receptacle is located etc.
Way overblown and fake, as it looks.

Re:Oh the horror for mouse land.
It baffles me why we don't use hydrogen for balloons. It's vastly cheaper, lighter, and leaks more slowly.
The only downside is the danger of storing it in big tanks to fill the things. But surely we've reached the stage now where suitably accredited businesses are allowed to keep potentially hazardous materials on site? It happens in lots of other industries.
The reaction is short-lived, but I don't want to see Little Johnny's pants on fire because of it.
Otherwise, having the a vent above the filling station that goes outside should alleviate most any commercialized OMFG HYDROGEN BUILDUP NEXT TO THAT ARCING FLUORESCENT LAMP HRP DERP DERP worries -- as long as only people who deal with explosive gases for a living transport the bottles, even within the store itself.

Re:saving the world
Local governments in the US have gotten very nasty about fining poorer people and trying to use them as profit centers. Like the shooting in thst suburb of St. Louis that lead to the riots: the Justice Department found no evidence that the shooting was not justified, but also found that the police department had been being a dick to the black population for so long with harassment and excessive fines that they were ready to explode.
John Oliver did a segment on it, he describes the issue pretty well.

Re:Great!
What if the camera is the IR port? Mission accomplished for them either way you go.
Even if we accept the premise that this is a problem that could use solving (which I'm actually open to), there's no good way to do so that I can see.
If we allow our devices to be susceptible to "camera jammers" (which is what these really are), we would, of course, want to make sure that the camera jammers were regulated. We might require that each be registered, program the camera to ignore any unregistered ones, and log an identifier for each one it encounters so that any abuses can be traced back to the owner. But even then, it's trivial to find examples that prove just how insufficient that approach would be. For instance, if these sorts of camera jammers were in common use at public events back in 2008 in order to protect copyrights, we'd have no footage of the Don't Taze Me Bro! event, despite the fact that nothing copyrighted was in the video.
Which is to say, we CAN'T allow anyone to unilaterally jam recording without causing some major problems. Moreover, just because a recording contains copyrighted content does not mean that it's infringing, which is what they're ostensibly trying to stop. After all, "fair use" is still a thing. So, what about approaching it from the flipside?
Rather than allowing someone to jam your camera, we might consider having the camera self-report itself via a short-range beacon when it's recording, that way it can be located and identified by copyright holders at venues where recording is prohibited. But that doesn't work either, since the people making those sorts of recordings at theaters will simply remove the transmitter or use a device that lacks them, and we can easily imagine scenarios (e.g. police brutality) where a broadcast of that sort would put the person behind the camera at mortal risk of being discovered by people who want to ensure that their video never sees the light of day.
No matter how you cut it, the only way to make this work is to involve humans after the fact, since preventing recording will prevent fair use, while reporting recordings will breach the privacy of the person doing the recording.

Re:warranty length
My wife likes her iPod and iPad mini; but in both cases we're hitting issues not generally hardware issues but software issues - they can't get upgraded beyond certain versions, and apps, etc are starting to not be available on them so they're coming to be SOL despite being perfectly usable.
Name ANY tech device for which that ISN'T the case. "Support" and "Upgrades" have a lifespan. Apple is almost always near, or at, the top as far as that goes. Time does move on. but it doesn't mean the device, the OS, or the Apps on it magically stop working, does it?, next!
Apple refuses to replace the glass
You mean "under warranty"? Or do you mean "They want to replace the entire Digitizer, when YOU think its just the "glass" that is broken"? Or do you mean "They refuse to even repair it at all at any price"?
And of course, your statement "it's difficult to find a third-party vendor to do it" exposes you for being either a bald-faced liar (more likely) or a complete idiot. Heck, if you're not a complete klutz, you can even do it yourself (which I think was the whole point of TFA) iFixit even has some nice step-by-step guides, what more could you want?
The rest of your "comment" doesn't even bear scrutiny. -

"Did a tiger just run out of my Butt?"
Of course one reason to look up a song is because you misheard some lyrics and want to know what the song was. 'scuse me while I kiss this guy. So I wonder if it can do soundex matching?
Personally I would prefer if it gave the Literal or Bad Lip Reading version of the lyrics as well. "who has two thumbs and likes BJs?" "Did a tiger just run out of my Butt?"

I know what is in the Koran. Yes, I know that the Islamic Orthodoxy claims that the original direction was Jerusalem and then it was changed to Mecca. What you don't seem to understand is that the PHYSICAL ARCHEOLOGY shows that this is NOT TRUE. The direction of prayer was toward Petra in Jordan for 100% of Arab Temples (not mosques, since Islam in its current form was not fully fabricated until two hundred years after Mohammed was said to have lived). The satellite images PROVE that Islam's claims are false.
All the stories you have been told about the origins of Islam are FALSE - and provably false. Again, I will show you the evidence that destroys the man-made false claims about Islam because it is YOU who doesn't know the REALITY

But you don't have to repeat the lies. You can finally understand the truth and be free - ISLAM IS MAN_MADE ****FICTION****.

What I find amazing, and it's proven time and time again is that atheists not only don't appear to have a heart of love, understanding, and co-operation, and infact they have a heart full of rage and hate for some reason which shows in their vulgar speech;
but also atheists are unable to examine evidence, unable to reason, and unable to use their sense of intellect and logic by examining history.Of course, Atheists aren't the only ones guilty, but ignorant people of all faiths, including Muslims, who's heart is deaf, dumb, and blind, and unable to use their sense of reason and logic.
No matter how many times it's explained from an anthropological and historical view, and examining the normal age of marriage even only 100 or 200 years ago, some people just can't escape their localised bubble.

Re:Mutah was banned by Muhammad
I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but as commented above...
With regards to the Prophet marrying Aisha (by the permission of her father, mother, and Aisha herself), this has been explained countless times.
Did you never think why the enemies of Islam at the time didn't rise up against this?? Surely this would have been the talk of the entire nation, not only the enemies (some of the Jews, especially who lived in Medina), and the pagans in Makkah, but even his disciples would have doubted the Prophet.
In Islam, a person becomes accountable to God and a full adult after puberty.
"And We sent not before you (as Messengers) any but men, whom We inspired from among the people of townships. Have they not travelled through the earth and seen what was the end of those who were before them? And verily, the home of the Hereafter is the best for those who fear God and obey Him (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds, and by performing righteous good deeds). Do you not then understand?"

Wow, the amount of ignorance in this comment; I wasn't going to reply as it's clear you have a distortion field which stops you from reading and examining evidence from anyone other than Islamaphobes and people with huge amount of hate in their heart.
And it's clear you haven't read the Qur'aan, not even the second chapter; otherwise you would know that of course, the early Muslims and the pagans used to pray and prostrate towards the direction ("qibla") of Jerusalem.
God later abrogated that, just like alcohol was disallowed slowly, along with abolishment of slavery, and the sick pagan practice of burying their daughters alive, prostitution, etc, etc.God sent the last Prophet to free humanity from the shackles of their mind and enslavery and worshipping of false deities, and freed women at a time when they were purely for sexual enjoyment and treated as objects. And Islam gave rights to women which the west only introduced since the 1900's, including a right to vote and have their voice heard, and the right to own their own house, business, money, etc.
What's rarely discussed is how the entire Arabian peninsula changed as a result of the Prophet and his disciples, and the amount of peace that spread throughout the lands and neighbouring nations. And prior to the "Geneva convention", the Islamic Prophet introduced the fair treatment and peace towards even war prisoners. In fact, he housed one of the war prisoners in his own house in Medina...
has there ever been a king or president who has taken a prisoner in his own home?!The Arabs at the time were following fragments of the teachings of Prophet Abraham, but most of it was lost and people deviated towards worshipping men and stones.
And this is why God sends Prophets - in Islam, we're told that God has chosen over 124,000 prophets, of whom around 315 were messengers (like Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad).
"And there never was a nation but a warner had passed among them".Our Prophet informed us that slowly, after a warner (prophet) is sent to a nation, it takes around 10 generations before people again deviate and start worshipping objects and people.
Otherwise, all Prophets preached the same message of worshipping One God alone, as He's the Only entity worthy of worship; and God provides in this life to even those who kill people and belittle God from their tongue. But there will come a time when they will be held accountable.
"Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion."
"And [mention] when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this (Makkah) a secure city and provide its people with fruits - whoever of them believes in Allah and the Last Day." [ Allah ] said. Re:Mutah was banned by Muhammad
According to Islamic orthodoxy pedophilia is permitted because Mohammed practiced with with little girls (his neice Aisha bint Abu Bakr) and nephews Hussein bin Ali and Hassan bin Ali.
Of course, Islam is the Scientology of the Dark Ages - invented by evil men to enslave other men, and (especially) women. Islam is a complete fiction that does not match the archeology of the region. There is some fantastic evidence showing satellite imagery and how all the early Arab Temples were oriented towards Petra in Jordan at the time Mohammed was said to have lived - because Mecca did not exist at that time. More clues towards Jordan and the Allah (Arabic for "God") called Dushara is in Koran 53:19-20 and the fact that the Nabatean cult of Dushara worship stone cubes called "ka'aba". Later Arab Emperors ("Caliphs") would take this cult and modify it to justify Arab Imperialism, and as an ideological counterweight to the Christianity of the Eastern Romans ("Byzantines") and Zoroastrianism of the Persians.
Anyway for those interested in seeing irrefutable evidence that Islam is false should watch this video (sorry, it is from a Christian scholar but they seem to be the only ones paying attention for the evidence against Islam/Sharia supremacism):
"An Historical Critique of Islam's Beginnings"

The evidence in this video is the ideological ICBM that annihilates Islam's claims about its origins. I hope some Slashdotters take the time to watch it because once you see the evidence for the fabrication of Islam you then understand that debating what Mohammed was alleged to have said or did or justified is pointless - he did even exist (at least not in the way Islamic superstition claims). -
Mutah was banned by Muhammad
"Mutah" is not permitted in Islam, not sure where you got that from.
In fact it was banned by Prophet Muhammad, after the lewdness that the pagans and idol/people worshippers used to spread.
It's only the Shia (minority) sect which allow this.In Islam, God has permitted and even encouraged sex between a husband and wife to increase love and bond within a matrimonial trust, just like Christianity and Judaism.
And yes, sex outside of marriage is a very serious and sick sin as it potentially destroys not only families, but an entire society due to illegitimate children. And children who have no father and mothers are generally worse off in education, health, and society; especially children without father-figures.Where Islam differs is that God has placed a ban on men to only have ONE wife.
However, as God knows the nature of men and their temptations, God has however permitted more than one wife ONLY in the condition he can bear the financial responsibility and offer safety and equal time to both wives. i.e. to curb prostitution and mistresses; and to help divorced/widowed women (especially with children) who find it difficult to find a husband, etc.And I also want to clarify that there is not a single Islamic scholar who hasn't spoken against the barbaric, terrorist group ISIS and the corruption they are spreading. In fact, Islamic scholars and imaams have received death threats from ISIS.

Re:Still better than the status quo
I took on online course that used ethics lectures from Harvard.
They start with an example of a hypothetical choice you must make about whether to steer a trolley car onto a sidetrack, killing 1 worker on the track, to avoid hitting 5 workers on the other track.
My first thought was, "is there a way I can kill all 6?"

Jaded pirate agrees
With an entire planet's worth of English (+bad French/Spanish/Japanese/Mandarin) content to choose from, I rarely find more than 2 hours a week of mainstream content worth watching - including movies.
Xrobots gets more of my attention than all of the inane shit produced by Hollywood/HBO/BBC combined.

Re:Ever heard the parking brake?
It's been a long time but I liked the book a lot and never forgot the main message. In the video of the shifter you can see that they took care to add multiple ways of visual feedback on the dashboard , probably to compensate for the loss of tactile feedback. This year old review describes well how drivers need to adapt to it. It doesn't show the dashboard, for that I checked other reviews. review
Yup, it's pretty clear on the dash; although the shifter would be better if the lights of the non-selected gears on the shifter would be off so only the selected gear was lit.

Re:The wrong solution to the wrong problem.
If it's not entertaining at normal speed, it's not entertaining at any speed.
While that is true in most cases, In general, there are some exceptions.
