You've got to know when to hold 'em ( Apple antenna) Know when to fold 'em (samsung disaster phone) Know when to walk away (Apple to Qualcom) And know when to run ( intel 5G) You never count your money ( Lyft stock price) When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done
Apple and Samsung should insist that Qualcom license their in-name-only FRAND patents to AMD as a second source. How did these major companies manage to make thensleves dependent on Qualcom? THe only other leverage now will be either the EU or China. I could see China insiting Qualcom lend their patents to Huawei and I cold see the EU insisting Qualcom also allow second sourcing.
This might explain the cryptic announcement in November by Qualcom that they felt that they and apple were close to negotiating an agreement. Apple responded by saying "huh? we haven't talked with Qualcom in 6 months".
How could Qualcom know apple would be agreeing if they were not talking? Maybe they somehow had inside info and knew Intel wasn't going to deliver on 5G so apple would me coming home to mama qualcom asking for forgiveness.
Actually it was a great bussiness model but not an ethical one-- possibly not even legal.
Promise FRAND licesncing in return for getting your patents made part of a standard.
Force companies to license your patents too if they want to be first in line for your chips. Add on things like a cut of the revenue of the devices the chips are used in. Definitely not FRAND. Sue them if they re-implement anything that evades the patent restrictions.
To make this stick you cut cozy deals with a few companies so that their competitors can't compete if they have to pay full price to Qualcom. Again, blowing the F in FRAND.
My homeowners association covenant agreement says that cops need to tell you is they are parkd on the street secretly surveilling your house for illegal activity. So I know I'm safe from the cops when I deal crack out of my garage. I can't beleive it was so easy to do. All you have to do is write down in the EULA for the HOA street that cops can't bust you and youre home free.
Was Lucas "actually" consulted, "virtually" consulted, or "merely" consulted. I'm confused.
Boy I would have loved it if Snoke had turned out to be Jar Jar. Drunken master style. would have been the biggest stick in the eye of the jar-jar haters ever.
As much as Microsoft earned it's negative reputation among some folks, the alternative-- Google only-- is far worse. Microsoft only got out of hand when they monopolized. Competition is the antiseptic. Hopefully google can be rescued from evil.
Right. It grates on me when they call it a hologram. Why can't they come up with something equally sexy sounding. On the other hand if it gets people excited about holography and "Science" then that's not a bad thing even if it's a misunderstanding.
The trouble is real holograms will be a lot more disappointing! A real holgogram will have a quality will be way lower yet the net effect will for practical stage purposes be identical to the audience.
But why not call it holoviz or something just a little different.
Local laws and regulations require Censoring. Look at germany. Look at France. where certain historical items are not allowed for trade like nazi gear. And even look at the US where you have to censor crypto when sold overseas. You used not to be able to advertise if you were a lawyer. You can't advertise cigarettes near schools and other venues for minors. You also can't sell certain drugs, not just illicit drugs, in the US that are legal in europe.
Ronald Reagan banned envionmentalists from canda (Farley Mowatt).
Countries ban things that offend their sensibilities.
If box office is up 1% in revenues and inflation is 2.5% then box office is down. Since ticket prices have risen by more than 10% the nunber of butts in seats is down by more than 9%.
The correlation could easily be interpreted to suggest the opposite. Specifically People who go still go to the theaters like movies so much that they also watch more on Netflix too. Exactly the reverse causation for that correlation.
Ironically yes I think they do. Would you have preferred your mother not reminding you to take your lunch to school every damn day? Asking if you registered for the SATs? Annoying as hell but it also gave you the feeling you weren't entirely without a support network. people were watching your back. Linux is very insular and isolated in expereience. Am I doing this right? Am I up to date? did I accidentally install a bad service or misconfig something when I ran apt-get install trustmeSucker from that russian repository? It's not that Windows isn't rife with malware. It's the sense you are not alone in facing it.
I don't know now one gets to 162. 128+32+2 ? 2*9*9 ? since it's not a power of 2 or a simple sum of a power of 2, or a simple multimple of a power of 2 it seems unusual. Even if they were trucking around parity bits then it would have been something like 2*8*9 not 2*9*9. Maybe they are planning for having processor cores in multiples of 3?
Anyhow Intel loves meaningless spec wars like Megahertz counts, so I'm sure we'll hear about the one with 163. Or more likely they will just double up two of their 82 lane systems and have 164
Windows makes a BFD of updating your computer or scanning for mal ware. Ironically the fact that updates are a big deal on Windows machines makes people aware of them. They are aware when one exists and if they haven't done it. This intrusiveness gives you the sense that as long as you stay updated Microsoft will keep your machine happy and healthy.
Linus doesn't provide that feeling.
You are never really aware if the "kernel" (scary) is upt to date or what that means or how to tell.
So it's daunting.
A linux distro with a security CLippy would give people more confidence something was out there keeping them safe and healthy
I think the reason AI is suddenlt leaping forward after being stallaed for decades is 1. almost entirely because computers are faster now. Especially because GPUs are faster. And specifically because of all machine learning algorithms out there the one that maps to matrix multiplies most easily is the Neural Net. It was just waiting for a graphics card with enough speed and memory to reach a practical scale.
2. Almost all mchachine learning is a refinement of past ideas. But GANs, seem to me to be the big breakthrough. They are uncanny.
In fact the thing GANS remind me most of is Dreaming in sleep. In dream time we replay ideas and try to conjur up alternatives. Part of our mind is just generating images and the other part is trying to classify them so it can reject the ones that can't fit a narrative. It really makes me think that GANs may have unlocked the secret of human intelligence of learning in this generative adversarial way that lets you generalize from fewer examples to rules. This could be hogwash. But GANs themselves are a huge breaktrhough

Apple's bendable iPhone6 was ahead of it's time yet again. At least it didn't break the screen.

I hate to see qualcom's sleazy Frand practices win by default.

to make my pace makers
This is more complex than MIPS which is just an anti-torque system.

Generally speaking most people are not drunk all day long. But texting happens all day long

Poor windows folks lacked a decent Perl. So they used Python.
What sort of tires did they use to get the latency down?
Right. It grates on me when they call it a hologram.

can anyone hear it scream? Yes if it's a private venture capital bear. right before the IPOo
is this a metaphor for our president?

Notice I said "Perception" in my title. I didn't say they didn't exist. Perception is why people don't do things not facts on the ground.
