Yeah, this is totally stupid and not sure why is qualifies as news here. A $10 toy car with an arduino running a right-turn-only maze solving algorithm would accomplish the same thing. Same sort of stuff we played with in my gifted class in grade school.
The more interesting story is people's reactions to this and how it has changed in the last fifty years or so.

Back in the 30's, pre-WWII, freeflight "drones" were a big thing amongst the techies of the day.

Those robotic systems are made to upgrade warehouses that were designed for people. Yes they're faster but they should be much faster than that if the warehouses were designed for the machines.

What if you really designed the warehouse from the ground up for totally automated systems? Why have robots at all? Wouldn't it be faster to put all the products on conveyor belts like a giant "vending machine"?

I watched a "banned" TED talk wherein the speaker claims that the rich get tax breaks because they are historically seen as "job creators". He further contends that this is not factually accurate, and that lower taxes on the middle class would create jobs. I've got a hybrid approach: What about if we auctioned off the lowest tax rates to the most job creators? This way the rich would actually be creating jobs. It for the first time directly incentivises job creation. If they don't create jobs then they don't get the rate.

It's a put-your-tax-rate-where-your-influence-is deal, which could be a win for everyone.

Nobody is being prosecuted and thrown in jail for being poor.

But for personal anecdote, I remember riding a bus and hearing a homeless person rant and rave about how if you have no money, you are breaking the law here. It sounds silly, until you think about how in many places, if you don't have money, you have no place to sleep, and there are a wealth of laws prohibiting sleeping in public places. Or if you need a restroom and there are no public bathrooms available, where do you go? Or if you are in an area and not buying something, what are you doing? Loitering?

It's not fiction. It's a future documentary from an alternate universe. The Time Macheen depicted in the movie is real. The only thing is it malfunctions and each time it's run (that is, each time the heroes realize it doesn't exist) it bumps that universe over one and closer to ours.

The same way we missed the dwarf planet Eris which is 27% more massive than Pluto and has likely been orbiting there for billions of years. Eris was only discovered in 2005! That means we would have to admit that a fucking planet was orbiting in our back yard unseen even though NASA et. al. promised we'd seen all the big shit that could be planet killers for decades. And that's the REAL reason that Pluto is no longer a Planet, because it would be embarrassing to the Astronomers.

Kupiter Belt Objects? What Kupiter belt? Don't give me the "Kupiter Belt" and "Oort Cloud" bullshit. There is no evidence of a Kupiter belt or Oort cloud. The comets we've sent probes to are hard dry dusty things, and yet they still form tails and don't have vents of any kind that we can see. Their minuscule water seen in spectrograms in the tail (but much less in the coma) is probably due to H+ ions from the sun interacting with SiO2 (silica / rock). In the lab when bombarding rocks with H+ ions (protons) some of the Oxygen atoms break free. Some of these O's bond with H's to form Hydroxide (which we do see more of in the coma than the tail of a comet).

The sun is generating an electrical gradient due to the H+ ions it pours out. The comets are coming from further away from the sun, so they come from a more negatively charged environment relative to the sun. The difference in electrical potential creates something like the Aurora Borealis as the electricity discharges. This is why the cometary Coma glows in UV light, same as other electrical events. The interaction of charged particles produce more chemical reactions and bond more O's with H's or HO's and form H2O, water. And that's where the extra water comes from in the tail of a comet -- but only a minority percentage of the cometary tail is water.

However, even though these electrical phenomenon have laboratory equivalents, the Astronemers still cling to the "Dirty Snowball" model of comets for which there is zero-evidence nor any laboratory experiment to back the theory. Where is the experiment with an ice filled rock heated under a heat lamp and producing jets in the laboratory? There is none, there never will be one. The "wet comet" model is bogus.

Separate post, so you can ignore it if you don't want more information: If there is a Supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy then why isn't it warping the light of the stars which allegedly orbit it? If not intense gravity then what could be causing the fast rotations of the stars at the galactic center? Strong Birkeland currents like those which couple between the Sun and Earth and cause our Arora Borealis could generate electromotive force and induce rotation. The current from a single 1.5v AA battery is enough to make a paperclip spin around a magnet due to the electro motive forces. A motor with a single "winding" is similar to a Birkeland current, and even at 1.5v the motor spins fairly quickly. Birkeland currents could boost angular momentum of objects at the galactic center via electromagnetic force: The flow of current causes the field lines to rotate along with anything that is caught in the EM trap (as they do on the sun).

Despite Voyager II proving that there is an electrical gradient in our solar system more dense at the sun thanks to the H+ ions (lone protons) Sol emits, Astronomers completely dismiss and refuse to consider the possibility of magnetic fields influencing stars. They scratch their heads and wonder how the "spiral arms" of the Milky Way and other galaxies formed because gravity shouldn't do that, and then outright refuse to consider that the stars are caught in a galactic scale magnetic field and the stars / matter is being pinched into place following the field lines just as the charged particles are trapped in the Sun's magnetic field lines prior to a solar flare.

My point is that there are far more elementary explanations for our observations than exotic warping of space and time, but modern astronomers refuse to even entertain the idea that the evidence they say attribute to Einstein's flawed theory of spacetime doesn't necessarily support the claim. They invent new theories such as Dark Matter to explain how gravity alone is holding Galaxies together, rather than consider the influence of Electromagnetism at interplanetary and intergalactic scales. Hint: The "threads" that galaxies align themselves to which is given as evidence of "dark matter" could just be magnetic field lines at cosmological scale.

The good news is that because Astronomers are willfully ignorant we know far less than you've been led to believe about the Universe. Ask yourself, why is it that we can see outlandish theories such as "Ancient Aliens" which question our modern beliefs popularized on television, but there is no TV special proposing rational theories which question the Big Bang model? There are ample shows which proselytize the current model of the universe, but why do we lack shows which question this belief? It seems the answer is: To maintain the dogma of the day.

Each detector has a pair of lasers at right angles which shoot down a long vacuum tube and the transit time is measured. If the transit time is different between the lasers then the detectors show an abberation. Unfortunately there's no third axis at the test sites.

Given that the instrumentation could be susceptible to influence from powerful electromagnetic waves, I find it disconcerting the researchers / press are jumping straight to "gravity wave detected".

Consider this video of a laser being manipulated in a strong magnetic field. Remember how CRTs work?

Furthermore, since light will bend and refract as it crosses the interface between substances with different refractive indexes I see no hard evidence of "Gravitational Lensing" either. The "Einstein Rings" we attribute to examples of Gravitational Lensing are all blue shifted. Anyway according to a physicist who's take on cancer is most interesting, it's a kind-of pre-programmed behaviour from the very early days of Eukaryotic evolution.
