Re:Give to the rest of the world and remain poor?
SOCIALISM
Countries with strong welfare states aren't "socialist", and in fact,
the only way they can afford their welfare state at all is by being
very capitalist: Finland, Canada, and Denmark have all been in the
top ten most economically free countries lately. From 1800 to 1950, Sweden was one of the most laissez-faire
countries there was. Alot of inventions came out of Sweden.
It bankrupted itself in 1991 after only 40 years of socialism.
It supports its welfare state today by being capitalist in all its
other affairs. Over 10% of its schools are privatised.Socialism doesn't generate wealth. No amount of socialism
will do anybody, outside of government crooks, any good.Any "socialism" that has ever "worked" was in a previously
very capitalist country. What Africa needs is pure, laissez-faire capitalism. It worked
for Hong Kong, which started out very poor. It worked for
America: before 1800, the average farmer type in the US was
living on $2/day in terms of modern USD. The nineteenth
century, once you're able to rise above all the (untrue) stereotypes,
was the best thing that ever happened to the poor, which brings
me to another point: what matters is if the poor are making enough money to live a decent life, not how "equal" they are.
Focussing on the gap is emotional-minded.Any economist who doesn't let their political beliefs get in the
way knows this."If you want a few people to be rich you need capitalism. "
Why do you care how much money the rich have, anyway?
What do you think they do with their money? "Hoard" it?
In a sense, yes, but it's not like the money is just sitting there
in the bank, unused, in a pile. What they do is they invest it,
in businesses, which generate wealth and jobs. Even your
own money isn't actually in the bank: that's just an abstraction.
What the bank does is keep track of how much they owe you.
They're not actually holding that money. It's out there in the economy,
hopefully being used for profit. The amount of delusion required to hold your beliefs is up there
with religion and compulsory schooling. -

Apparently, it's a Smokey Robinson song. I'm going to go ahead and declare the Massive Attack version to be the pinnacle, though. Clearly inspired by the Marvelettes version. I couldn't track down the Roxy Music cover, but I'm not a big fan to begin with.

Re:End game?
What's the end game with all this?
China is showing us one of the possible end games. Facebook is already patenting features along those lines. Combined with omnipresent spying, this "new" type of oppression will work. It's a terrifying future.
It's like a new cold war.
Dan Geer describes our situation as a cold civil war. It would be useful if more people recognized that.

Sure, there are a people whom you could legitimately call "a racist". We can all think of examples. In the vast majority of instances, it doesn't really make sense.

Re:FTFY...
Yes, because the persecution of the white male by 'SJWs' in today's society is totally a real, tangible thing that is ruining lives
Yep. SJW's have successfully pressured universities to kick out students. SJW critics have been fired from their jobs and disparaged over the internet to the point where they were unemployable. And they've even been arrested and imprisoned for false charges trumped up by SJW's. SJW's do not fuck around when dealing with critics. Just ask Thunderf00t (a prominent atheist and science advocate on Youtube) about all the times feminists have tried to get him fired from his university job after he criticized the feminist invasion of the atheist movement.

Re:Curious
Who at CBS and Paramount is trying so avidly to destroy the Star Trek canon? After all, they released rights to J J Abrams and crew for their completely disruptive "reboot" of the franchise (complete with lens flares). And now that the creators of that canon have decided to try and continue the tradition of Gene Roddenberry, they decide to file suit. Clearly, Dr. Watson the game is a foot.
if you don't defend your patents, you lose them. Ask Bayer about aspirin sometime. Or Xerox.

Re:Nice!
if you cant post your "dissenting opinion" without "threatening people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability or disease", then you have some issues you need to work on.
Ok, lets talk about what they claim, and how this will go down in reality. Because Twitter has a really bad track record of saying one thing and enforcing another.
For example. There is a delightful young transwoman named Sarah Nyberg who has been harassing gamers on twitter for months now. (But that's ok, because harassing neuroatypical white males is socially acceptable. Especially if they're overweight and straight, too.)
Sarah Nyberg is a pedophile. She openly admits this. She also openly admits that she took photos of her 8 year old niece in her underwear and shared them online. She openly admits that doing so gave her an erection.
She admits all of this, but that it was ok because some people were rude to her and that's somehow worse.
TALKING about this, due to Sarah Nyberg being part of the SJW clique, results in you being mass-reported by a botnet and your account auto-locked by Twitter's algorithms until you delete the "harassing" posts.
The people doing this openly brag about doing this. Twitter does not care.
Twitter can post all the fluff pieces about how this is going to combat trolls and harassers they want. People who have been the victim of this passive agressive "crybullying" know that the authoritarian nutjobs involved claim any disagreement with their socio-political views is "harassment" or "Cyberviolence" and that Twitter apparently agrees with them.

At 32c3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?... , Daniel Lange and Felix Domke presented their analysis of Volkswagen's "Dieselgate" software. Think of one of the earliest motivations for building computing machines in the first place: To create parameter tables for artillery aiming!

Re:No. They Said They Were Completely Secure.
When the banks in the UK implemented chip&pin they messed up in many ways:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...They made architectural mistakes. In theory chip&pin could be more secure.
To me the most important difference between the US and Europe is that the new rules in the US from a couple of years ago is that the shop can be made responsible for fraud with payment terminals.
At least in Europe as far was I know this isn't the case, so this is a problem for the banks to solve and shouldn't impact the shops or customers as much.

Re:"Beating the trolls" is it?
I absolutely appreciate that you're willing to take the time to chat to me about this but until you can present *something* that validates your claims I don't see this going anywhere. I would also say, purely as a point of argumentation style, that insulting people needlessly isn't a great way to make your points any more convincing.
I had a look at your posting history and noticed that the person you referred to earlier who was making claims of a favourable review presented the same evidence I linked in my original post in this thread (http://developers.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=8183157&cid=50752585). The odd thing is that this individual made a really inconsistent post that talks about a review then asserts it was favourable coverage while presenting evidence that *it was* favourable coverage and not a review. I would say that this is not my experience when talking to "gater troll"s as I described above.
You discounted the idea that the three instances of coverage were not reviews making the evidence, in your opinion, entirely worthless. It took me a few minutes to invalidate your claim that the original assertion by "Gamergate" was that Grayson gave Quinn reviews for sex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... (for those who lack context, this is a mirrored copy of the video that Adam Baldwin linked to when coining the term Gamergate)
If you can get something so straightforward as this wrong is it not possible that you are the person with an axe to grind?
