Okay...I can see the need for u:SuperType->u:ActivityType->c:ActivityType->im:Al ienEncounterType...I mean, we're bound to encounter aliens at some point, right?

Religious fundamentalists complaining that we do not need to spend billions of dollars figuring out what happened at the so-called “Big Bang” (God created the universe, afterall) and that those funds would be better spent on more ambitious projects that would help save America from immorality and godlessness.

Back in the cold war they started the EBS, "Emergency Broadcast System", so if the Russians fired their nukes, you'd have a good half hour to "duck and cover" and tremble in fear before you were vaporized in an atomic holocaust.

This was more intelligently re-worked as the "EAS", or Emergency Alert System, where they actually had a real use for it: it would sound when a tornado or other dangerous weather was coming. Anyone remember the hilarious episode of WKRP where there was a tornado about to hit Cincinnatti, and the radio station only had warnings for nukes, and Les Nessman had to substutite "tornado" for "communist" (warning of the "Godless Tornados")?

WTF is this damned pork? There is already as system in place. The EAS could warn you of a terror attack just as easily as a tornado... except they can't see terrorists on radar, or 9-11 wouldn't have happened! WTF is this actually supposed to DO? I mean, besides coddle the cowardly?

Speaking of weather vs Osama, we had two tornados rip through our town this year, no loss of human life (lots of dead animals) but incredible infrastructure destruction- houses, trailers, businesses, roofs, electricity, roads. Bin Laden couldn't DREAM of making a mess anywhere near as catastrophic. I can't imagine anyone here (or moreso New Orleans where a thousand people died) being the least bit scared of terrorists.

  National geographic is well known to be racially biased. They even had an article claiming all Indians are cannibals and eat rats (most Hindus are diehard vegetarians, even dirt-poor ones). They are the "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" against Hindus. A hoax.

  Legitimate criticism of developing nations is fine, but National geographic veers away from academic criticism and goes into racist rants and raves against all non-white non-christian countries (even though 87% of Uganda's population is Christian, just not white; That's enough for National Geographic to label them as 'soulless niggers').

  National Geographic also had article (I read them as a kid) denouncing Zionism as Racism, so they are New (ie Left Wing) anti-Semites as well. They are overwhelmingly supportive of "Palestinian" (a ficticiuos nonexistent country) terrorists and demean and denigrate Israel (they had a completely biased article against the Kahane Khai party, for instance; they have ignored all the positive contributions that Kahanists made during the Palestinian Intifada).

  Liberals in America portray Hindus as animals, and encourage hate-crimes against them. Liberal bastard Jonh Kerry insulted all Sikhs as terrorists, and Hillary Clinton made derogatory remarks against Hindus in public.

First up atheism takes as much faith as religion. So I applaude that you have a faith based system integrated into your life.

so do saturated fats, should we hold McDonalds (religion) accountable for all the fat, unhealthy people (zealots) in the world? Or instead should we say that how people interact with McDonalds is the real problem? A burger a month... no problem... three a day every day... big problem. The difference is that if you eat McDonald's every day, it will probably kill you, but it won't have any direct effect on me. If you want something a little more close to home, look at the control that Christians are intent on exercising on other peoples' decisions about gay marriage, drugs and abortion. But I've found that the vast majority of religious people out there are little more than sheep.

Christianity was, in fact, a cause of serious turmoil in Rome. The Spanish are infamous for their particularly cruel brand of Catholicism, and there have been dozens of feuds in Western Europe caused by some petty disagreement between Christian sects. And the Cold War wasn't a war, but many viewed it as a conflict between God's America and the godless, cold communist state.

Was this a try for "funny"? If it was serious, I don't oppose free speech. Where it can work, I'm very much in favour of it. I questioned it's universal application. I happen to enjoy it, but even where I'm from freedom of speech isn't absolute. It's subject to a whole raft of government restrictions - and so is yours.

If you're talking about the first Crusades, it was the Emperor in Constantinople who asked for the Frankish knights to come help.

Of course, no one really expected the thing to snowball into a massive invasion fleet in its own right. The Emperor probably was hoping for a few thousand mercenaries to add to his army. The Pope was hoping to get good relations with the Emperor. This kind of assistance had been rendered (without much success) earlier.

But this time around, it was different. The Pope did make a more directly religious appeal this time. You know, 'smite the godless heathen' or whatever. And Europe had been unusually peaceful and plague-free. There were a lot of younger sons with no hope of gaining an inheritance, who were just itching to go to war against somebody. So although nobody expected such a thing, bang, suddenly there was this huge phenomenon which came to be called a crusade.

Some weird stuff has happened in this country over the last 10 years, the strangest of them all is that the Republican Party now is entirely controlled by a gang of socialist thugs. I don't know how that happened, but the Republican party is now the party that stands for big government spending:

Well, in the first place, it's not socialism, it's fascism.
It's been longer than 10 years. It really started going into overdrive with Reagan, but the roots go back to WW2. Most people forget that the wealthy elite, industrialists and the like (i.e. the Republican base) were tremendous supporters of the european fascists. It was only the American left (when we had one) that supported going to war against them. Most Americans were isolationist and didn't want to get involved either way. Heck, our current president's grandfather actively supported Germany against his own country. He narrowly avoided treason prosecution. It's nice to have friends in high places.

After WW2, an unholy alliance was created between Christians and Republicans for the first time in history due to the threat of the "godless communists". The rural Christians have continually voted against theior own stated "moral values" since this time. That's why you see them frothing at the mouth about sex on TV and gays being presented in a positive light even though those are inevitable consequences of hyper capitalism which is what they keep voting for. Tie that in with the fact that rural America has never dealt with the negative effects of capitalism until recently as they have lived under a form of socialism for a hundred years where the people in the cities are forced to subsidise their way of life.

Since Reagan with all the crimes of his administration including arming terrorists, creating torture schools and aiding the international cocaine trade, it's gone into high gear.

Someone needs to write a book about this transformation.

One of the major arguments of a major subset of the anti-evolution/pro-Creationism school of thought (if it can be called that...) is that there is some sort of tippy-top secret conspiracy among scientists to keep their own cash flow going by producing evidence in favor of evolution. The consensus seems to be that scientists are all a bunch of godless atheists who are interested only in lining their own pockets-- that they lie and cheat and deny the "obvious fact" that an invisible man in the sky created the world 6,000 years ago in order to make money hand over fist.

I GUARANTEE you that the instant one of the people who maintains one of the many creationist sites out there gets wind of this, this guy will get made into (anecdotal) evidence for the "fact" that all scientists are not to be trusted.
