SCO.com Defaced
A whole slew of readers wrote:"According to an Image on the SCO website they own all our code and we shall pay them all our money. (found at Heise online (german IT news). " Yes, I'm sure this will help the whole legal case; defacement has always been such a valued piece of input in court *cough*.
Very relevant for a change
... but at least it was tastefully done.
If someone says he and his monkey have nothing to hide, they almost certainly do.
.. but they *do* own all your code ~~~

In case SCO ever gets around to fixing their site, a screenshot I took of the affected site is available here.
Nice of him not to use the AYCABTU line.
Though you have to admire the subtlety..
Remember, there are no stupid questions. But there are a lot of inquisitive idiots.
All your base are belong...
Ah what I wouldn't give to see the look on there faces when they relieze this!
Course since I looked at the image, I am sure now they will try and charge me $699.00.

Earlier in the day the lead story was asking for 256billion in payments from Microsoft, as SCO had found UNIX code in all versions of Windows.
Then that disappeared, but the graphic remained.
I would have posted a mirror, but the /. affect on the SCO site is much more fun.
It's not so obvious that the website is defaced =P
I welcome our new code-owning overlords.
Article on NewsForge and screenshot.
Why havnt sco changed the image back yet? Theyre very slow about it. Hopefully they wont be as slow when they start doing the linux support we pay them for
"SCO defaced their own site to discredit the Linux Community". You heard it here first.
...is what, a year late?
It's been fixed now, it's gone back to the original slogan: "We own all your code, pay us all your money."
the woman has written "hacked by reallock" ?? the name is slightly obscured.
i'm trying to give up sigs.
Changing only one image and in a way that it looks like it absolutely belongs...
all I can say is that all you other ankle-biters out there need to learn from this....
posting defacings that look like viagra adds and filled with shouts and greetZ only makes you look like a very silly child with only script-kiddie skillz.
(oh and spelling that way makes you simply look like a wanna-be)
congrats to whoever did it. they needed to make it a little more discreet to see if it would have stayed there for a week or more...
Damn - it won't go "Slashdotted"... ...everyone keep pressing F5 until it no longer reloads ;)
Conclusion: It's not a defacement. It's their new corperate motto.
Wanted: One witty yet thought provoking
Anyone looked at what's begin written down in the background of the image? from what you can read: h?cke? by rea??oc( so.. hacked by realloc( also notice the photoshop smear spots near the arms of the woman in the background.
but the subtle ones, that the people that see the site every day may glaze over and not notice are much more amusing than the "animated gif internet meme some cracking group ownz jo0uz" defacement.

A little too open it would seem.
Technology, the cause of and solution to all of life's problems.
Looks like the site is still defaced.. maybe they should teach HTML to some lawyers and fix things up :)
And as with most hackers, (s)he left a calling card in the image. Can you spot it? The writing is on the wall, so to speak.
My beliefs do not require that you agree with them.
..and sco.com is hacked. Therefore IIS is more secure :)
All your code ... would fit better?
Oh well, if they are belong our code maybe they do are belong our base. Hey what the hell... we have no chance to survive anyways, let's make our time and laugh

Ooo. A hacked image has been placed on the SCO website. Alert all the SCO haters of the world! (long list granted)
/.er, but deliberately and maliciously hacking their website certainly doesn't help the business hat's outlook at the open source community.
I dislike SCO's business practices as much as the next
Yes I know there probably is no corrolation between some script kiddie and the Open Source movement. It's all impressions anyway.
Free clue for the would-be SCO hackers out there: SCO makes themselves look like idiots - very well I might add. They certainly don't need your help.

Why do you think this is a defacemant?
It's their new business model (you insensitive clods)
I don't need a signature.
Not sure what you're implying (giving how confusing irony can be today), but notice what the girl has written on the whiteboard: "Hacked by reallocl" ... this is clearly the funnies hack in years, and on their front page none the less. :-D

How can one tell it's defaced?
Don't take SCO's actions so personally.
...searching the SCO website for the phrase 'litigious bastards'. It returns an error message: #1040 Too Many Connections.
Made me laugh, anyway.
I got an infallible rock that keeps tigers away. You can even see me in my webcam and I guarantee: you'll see absolutely NO tigers!!! . Only US$ 694.99 !!

Did anyone other than me not notice when this was "announced" here on Slashdot in the e17 story?
Here.
Seems not to have gotten much attention, but it show's that kiddies can't help but crow, even anonymously.
Apparently they haven't changed it yet because their web-development department is having trouble finding the FrontPage shortcut
I'm not so sure about defacing. SCO has gone so nuts that it wouldn't surprise me if the pages were actually real new ones.
Coral cache ..
This was covered at The Register earlier today.
I'm suprised nobody mentioned the fake story which was inserted into the SCO homepage.
This screenshot is a mirror of the article on the SCO page.
I'd like to suggest that realloc() think about applying for a job at SCO. His attitude about other people's property, as evidenced by his crack of their site, has a lot in common with SCO's own attitude, as evidenced by their blackmailing lawsuits.
Sounds like the tagline for some syndicated action flick.
SCO will be around for many years to come?

If its a hack, they must have hacked thescogroup.com. Image here
Either SCO has been hacked on seperate web servers (thescogroup.com was put up as alternative in case of DDos), they have a script that mirrors each other, or its SCO's new motto.
Take your pick.
I kinda like it being SCO's new motto. Shows their company attitude and policy imo.
I'm a virgo and on Slashdot. Coincidence? Yes.
Of course it was running Linux. See, they were running it just to prove how insecure it is.
Pawns! You're all playing right into their hands!
What the hell are they doing in This picture?f

I for one, am glad that they got h4x0r3d after publishing this smut.
All your code are belong to SCO

Maybe SCO have attacked Groklaw in order to get their own back (or maybe they attacked themselves and Groklaw because they were bored).

...is for someone to post a site collecting all of the of screen captures of SCO's hacked site: "Where were you when SCO got hacked?" There must be hundreds of fools (like me) who snagged a copy. To complete the irony, once such a site was built, SCO would then hack that site, replacing thousands of hacked screen grabs with their "Webinar" banner. Oh what a mangled web we weave ;-)
Is this sig nificant?
Yeah its wrong to do it. But its so subtle.
And in a ironic twist, its hard to tell what was changed and what is marketing speak.
for example this gem, is it real or a joke?

This defacement takes away from the very damaging info in the USL/BSD sealed settlement that was put out for the world to see. The defacement takes away from the serious legal issues that are shown by the release of the settlement - that SCO *can't* sue anyone who does not have a contract with them, and that SCOSource is useless. Linux threats are a joke. See your lawyer, and read section c.:
c. USL agrees that it shall take no action against any person who utilizes any methods and concepts in the Restricted Files which as of this date have become available to the general public by acts not attributable to the University, its employees or students. Nothing in this provision shall limit USL's rights against a third party arising out of a breach of any license agreement with USL or AT&T.
Stop cheering illegal acts and pay attention to the house of cards falling. SCO is sure to get more press out of the defacement than the effect of this clause if they have anything to say about it (and they have plenty to say). I wouldn't be suprised if this was timed intentionally (did they deface their site?) to take away from the *real* issue that came up this weekend.
I am, and always will be, an idiot. Karma: Coma (mostly effected by
Everyone knows the legal crap that SCO is slinging.
But the story I see here NOT being written about is how did we find out about this "Change of Image" on the SCO site! I've always blown off those perl screen scraping examples were the author collects images of lawn growing. Not anymore.
I believe there is an Apache exploit involving a realloc() function. addict3d article
SCO has a November 30 filing deadline in the IBM case, on the IBM counterclaims. That's tomorrow. SCO has to reply to IBM's "You violated the GPL and you can't use IBM's code in Linux any more" counterclaim. This is the day SCO has to provide legal arguments to back up their "the GPL is unconstitutional/illegal/irrelevant" claim. Which they're not going to be able to do successfully. That's not the news SCO wants heavily publicized.
So the timing here is suspiciously convenient for SCO.
Inside job?
Though I do expect that how much Darl paid for his license, is covered by a draconian non disclosure agreement, preventing you from ever revealing this information or any other arbitrary information that Sco may wish you to withold for the entire rest of your life. :D
