FFVII Advent Children Leaked
FF7:AC Movie writes "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has been leaked on the Internet early this morning by a pirate group from Hong Kong known as BiEN (which incidentally means good in French). The Square-Enix film was due to release in Japan on September 14th 2005 after numerous delays. As for the North American release date, it has been pushed back to a cloudy end of November."
It was inevitable, no one can escape this, especially after all the delays and false hope. It creates grudge from the fans.
But I'm sure most fans will also buy the DVD, if they find a mean of distribution for it...

"Bien" also means "well" in Spanish.

I was actually looking forward to seeing this, and had high hopes that there could actually be a _good_ Final Fantasy movie. I hope Square doesn't get too discouraged by this (they shouldn't, piracy isn't anything new in the game industry)

Isn't linking directly to a pirated movie download a bit bald faced for a NEWS SOURCE?
DYWYPI?
Was this a leak from some type of a pre-screening, or a hack, or perhaps a leak from the company, as the name seems to imply?
Movies are leaked to the Internet all the time. Is this one really special?

Ah well... Anyway, this is nothing new. I saw the Family Guy movie months ago. In fact, when I went to the IMDB to post about it, I noticed an exchange to the effect of the following:
Guy 1: Teh Family Guy movie is teh awesomes!!
Guy 2: Stupid fanboy, the movie isn't out yet. Don't review something you haven't even SEEN!
Guy 3: Umm.. The movie's been out on the net for several weeks, and we've ALL already seen it. stfu
Hell, a friend of mine's office is running a massive DVD piracy ring with their fancy new DVD duplicating machine (officially used to make demo DVDs for clients).
I don't need slashdot to tell me $movie was released early: I just assume all movies are, and I'm most usually right.
Now, what to do about this is another matter entirely...

After watching Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within with total disappointment, I wonder if this next one is just more hype. Call me crazy but Hironobu Sakaguchi isn't known for variety. Expect the same party concept getting full power to save the universe from some evil being.
Cam? VCD? DVD?
what's this, no bittorrent?? LINK ME!!!!
well, I guess we'll just have to cancel the whole movie, after millions of dollars and after we've finished production
-Square
(ain't happening. did they cancel star wars, shrek, or any other movie that came out in the last year? because they've all come out early online.)
Slashdotted in an hour. Pwned.
This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My sig is worthless without me, and I am worthless with ou

Once again, this site has done its part in the fight to save the Internet from the scourge of unauthorized downloading. Well done, brave
Anyone know if there's any english subtitles released for this? :)
If the subtitles are anything like Episode III: The Backstroke of the West, I'm not so sure this is a good thing.
You are a self-congratulatory douche, and I don't like you.

What is the point of posting this on slashdot? Are we supposed to think you're cool by association? Would your friend be happy you did this? Do your friends hate you as much as I do?
Just kiddng! I love you.
Oops. I meant loathe. Sorry.
Just FYI to the editors of Slashdot: The link in the article contains a page with links to a sample of the ripped movie and a torrent to the movie itself. I'm not sure what /.'s stance is on offering that kind of info, so I'm just suggesting that maybe you want to remove the link.
When you win: "The geography that I stands compares you superior." Clearly, the geography of this meme stands compares you superior.
All the reviews from hardcore FFVII+ fans that I have seen have praised the movie.
All the reviews from casual people or FFVI- fans have been less than glowing. The FFVI people not liking it for a variety of reasons, and the casual people not understanding anything (supposedly no backstory is presented) and seeing the movie as mostly convoluted nonsense.
I thought it was fan service, not much more.
Rent before you buy (for those that still rent and buy movies).
So... you were Guy 2, right?
ACs already have a bad name.
A slashdotter who didn't build his own computer is like a Jedi who didn't build his own lightsaber.
Advent Childrens already has a bad name? It's not even out yet! (officailly)
If you loved FFVII, then the movie is gonna be the greated damned thing you've seen since the game.
If you didn't love FFVII then you're either not gonna like it or outright hate it for a number of reasons.
If you never played FFVII, you're gonna think the movie is a total piece of crap since no amount of time spent on the backstory will be enough to explain it to moviegoers.
Overall, expect direct-to-DVD unless SE is willing to risk another FF:Spirits Within.

/.'s policy, but I would think a link to a link that links to a torrent is ok...?
Actually, a link to a site with a link to a well seeded torrent.
Not sure on
No offense but you're the one who should be learning french. Bien can mean BOTH good AND well depending on the context. Example:
C'est bien! = That's good!
Bien fait! = Well done!
I wonder how the percentage of movies leaked early progresses over time. Are we stagnating or are leaks getting more common?

:D
they killed the link. someone who has the torrent put it up on http://thepiratebay.org/ PLZ!
Get them here.
Wow, that was a lot faster than I thought... Just to update everyone, you can download an english subtitle file for the movie now (seperate download). Expect more and more fansubs over the next 2 weeks. The subtitle that comes with the movie is japanese, so that's kind of redundant.
I will make it legal.
You must be new here.......
What's even more saddening is that the last street date of 11/29 has now been changed by sony to TBA, so we may be looking at a Q1 2006 release. I hope not.
The question that we all want answered before we start downloading:
Does Tifa give it up, or what?
If you don't know what AltaVista is (was), get off my lawn.
According to IMDB, Eminem has a role as Mr. Coates? What the hell? I thought this was a japanese film..? Can anyone explain?

Consider yourselves warned square - your loyal fanbase will only take so many blows before something like this affects your bottom line.
Physics is nothing like religion. If it was, we'd have an easier time trying to raise money!
""Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has been leaked on the Internet early this morning by a pirate group from Hong Kong known as BiEN (which incidentally means good in French). The Square-Enix film was due to release in Japan on September 14th 2005 after numerous delays."
Well there goes the "I pirate because copyrights are too long" excuse, down in flames.
I'll keep this simple for those who haven't seen it already:
Disclaimer: I hated FF7. I liked 6, 4, 5 and 1, in that order.
With that said: there is no other movie like this, and it's probably worth buying just for that. The story is simple and not very good. It's a poor plot strung together to show off all the characters doing their crazy little moves. Something else that bothered me was the buildup of supporting characters (like the Turks, most likely for the sake of character background for their upcoming cell-phone game). Also, some of the animation is very bad, as is some of the modelling.
Aside from these complaints: Holy shit does this kick ass. The fight scenes rule the day for the most part. Some drag a bit, but they really toss out any ties to reality here and don't forget this film is based on a game. You'll see all your favorite (or hated, depending on what you thought of the game) characters doing tons of signature moves (sometimes not enough though), and some of the craziest coregraphy in any action movie ever. It's definitly fantasy at this point though since that's where animation goes a bit haywire, but as much as I disliked the source material I really, really liked this for the crazy action, spell casting, sword slinging bad-assness of the whole thing.
Also: there are bike-chase-scenes in this film which make Akira look like a movie about tricycles. They alone blew me away.
All in all, this was one hell of a movie. After the credits rolled I was planning to head straight to the store on release day to support this fantastic piece of entertainment, spawned by the game that ruined the series for me. Yes, despite lame story and other CG wierdness, the action and presentation was that good.
(Then I read that Eminem was going to be a voice actor for the US release. Take a hint from that one Square - lame tie-in's to pop artists turn a lot of people off).
I'm sure a lot of you will dig this though, whether you liked the game or not.
It doesn't look likely that Advent Children will hit the US this year, so it's either than expensive import, this, or being really patient. I don't think Final Fantasy VII fans can wait much longer.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how one might be able to convert the xvid .avi to VCD format? I've been looking for a means to have subtitles embedded in the video as well as having the film span either 1 or 2 discs (as, when I try to have it encoded, Nero tells me I lack an mpeg-4 decoder of sorts, which then inflates the 699 MB file into something around 800+ MB/1+ GB.
:D
If anyone has any suggestions, or a guide that helps with this sort of thing, I'd appreciate it, like, so much.
