PS Move Launch Date and Price Announced, Portal 2 For the PS3
Sony also unveiled a new campaign for the PSP, apparently designed to compete with phone games. Upcoming titles include Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalkers, Invizimals (an augmented reality game that makes use of the camera), God of War: Ghost of Sparta, and Kingdom Hearts. Moving back to the PS3, they gave a presentation on LittleBigPlanet 2, emphasizing how it is a platform for all kinds of games. Users will be able to create almost any type of game within LBP 2 — FPS, RTS, RPG, racing, space shooters, etc. They showed several brief demonstrations created in a short period of time, and it appears to be a very robust set of tools.
Next, Sony announced a long-rumored subscription service for the PlayStation Network called PlayStation Plus. It's intended to provide additional services to gamers for $50 a year. Existing PSN features won't change, and PSPlus will provide access to betas, themes, discounts at the Store, and other services. The crowd wasn't particularly pleased at this, and Sony quickly moved on to upcoming games. Valve's Gabe Newell came out on stage and announced that Portal 2 will be coming to the PS3, apparently with some limited Steam Cloud integration. We also got presentations on Dead Space 2 and a new Twisted Metal game planned for 2011
I'm kind of hoping for Move support in Portal 2. That will really be the killer Proof of Concept for Move as a game controller over Natal.
Non impediti ratione cogitationus.
I just jizzed in my pants over this. Sony fucking rocks!
Not sure that that Peacewalkers was the best title for the game. It brings up intimidate images of Snake being 65 years old and using a walker with those tennis balls on the feet to get around like you see seniors doing at the malls. LOL
does that new controller look like a dong? With 1 nut at that?
Existing PSN features won't change
Right, and just because the new slim PS3s don't support Other OS doesn't mean that Sony will be removing it from the older ones.
I haven't played a single Valve title and thought I hadn't got value for money. Although short, Portal was amazing. I can't wait for Portal 2. In fact I think I'm going to piss myself in anticipation. /fanboi
Just bought my PS3 last week, and excited to see they're still planning games and even more improvements for it instead of phasing it out already since they've been around a while.
Of course featuring Chuck Norris. That brings up a whole different picture.

Nintendo had a decent showing this year. Good if you are comparing it to the previous two years horrible Nintendo conferences. The 3D stuff sounds to be pretty bad from the people who tried it in person. You have to keep your head exactly in the right spot for it to have any effect. More of the same pretty much sums up the rest of Nintendo's showing. Good if that is what you want.
Microsoft's Kinetic was a almost comical flop. Too much lag/latency. Poor precision and controls. And this was just from the carefully staged/rigged demos. No wonder they haven't been letting the genral public get their hands on it. Nothing else of any interest. Old outdated hardware with a tiny number of first party developers. Time for Microsoft to can the Xbox and get back to focusing on PC gaming.
Sony really had an monumental show with a gigantic amount of things to show. Not surprising since they have more than double the first party studios than Nintendo and Microsoft combined. The most powerful hardware by a huge margin. And strong support from all three major console regions. Only 50 dollars for the only 1:1 absolute motion controller is pretty amazing. The only thing that wasn't really that interesting was the premium services since everyone already can get most of it with Qore now.
Gran Turismo 5 (coming November 2nd)? One can holy hope. I was waiting for it to be renamed DNF Kart at this point. The game looks great if it is (finally) going to come out. A reason to get a PS3!
?
Neverminding the general shape of the Move controller itself, am I the only one that thinks the glowy ball looks goofy? It's like a color-changing lightbulb someone stuck out of a phallic lamp. Surely Sony could've integrated the glowing part into the controller itself? Perhaps like a lighted end cap or something? Sony's got the design skills to make it look all high-tech and cool, but the best they can do to an ergonomic controller is to stick a ball onto it?
As for Portal 2 - is it going to be as gimped as the PS3 version of Orange Box was? (Orange Box for PS3 basically sucked - low framerates, stuttering, and all around unplayable...).
Indeed. Gran Turismo has been losing speed to other racing series like Forza, though I've always prefered Turismo. It's been a long time coming.
You attack its weak point for massive damage!
"still planning games"
I don't want to flame. I'm just incredulous at such a statement.
The PS3 has another seven years at least of full Sony support. Sony has 21 first party studios(Nintendo has about 10, Microsoft 3) focusing entirely on high end exclusive titles that aren't gimped or downgraded to run on the weaker Xbox 360. Many of these studios have only put out their first version of current gen games and have 1 to 2 more versions to release this gen.
The PS2 which came out in 2000 still has shelf space at the local electronics/gaming shop that is only slightly smaller than the current gen systems with new major games still coming out for it as of this year.
Go away loser.
Thank you... you burned me... I'm going to go cry in a corner now... With steam... On Wine... Where is the love?
Boredom is bliss.
I suppose it is too much to hope that Sony would say something about this sore subject at a press conference. I wonder if anyone is going to try and bring it up at E3...
Only 50 dollars for the only 1:1 absolute motion controller is pretty amazing.
That's an absurd way to put it: the wiimote is about that same price if not cheaper. And all 3 now have motion controls, specifying "This one has 'true' 1:1" is silly. After 4 years of motion controls with the wii, I still have yet to see anything worthwhile being done with it. I'm cynical as to whether or not "true 1:1" motion control is going to be any more relevant than "not really 1:1" motion control.
Old outdated hardware with a tiny number of first party developers. Time for Microsoft to can the Xbox and get back to focusing on PC gaming.
When has MS -ever- had a big number of first-party titles? Or Sony, for that matter?
Off the top of my head-
Sony: God of War, Gran Turismo
MS: Halo
Nintendo: pretty much everything worth playing on the wii.
Speaking again of the wii... did I detect someone suggesting that hardware power made much of a difference this generation?
New games having 3d support is a no-brainer, the real information is the pricing on the Move. $49 for a wand and $29 for a navigation controller is $10 higher (each) than the respective Wii controllers; add in the cost of the Eye ($39) and there's going to be alot of angst over the cost of this new optional hardware. First-party Move games being priced at $39 was a smart move, undercutting first-party Wii games by $10; to be fair, Sony is no Nintendo when it comes to first-party games, and it seems most of the Move-compatible games are traditional games with Move support shoehorned in. In conclusion, it's not going to compete with the Wii, it's for PS3 owners who are willing to drop the cash to play a couple decent games that require it. No killer app was announced, so it's going to end up the same way as the Sega CD unless something out of left field (think Scribblenauts) is shown on the floor in the next couple days.

Still ignoring my stack of PS2 titles? Watch me ignore your PS3 - at least until Grand Theft Auto Vice City comes out for it - which means, never.
I have to say that I'm not even a little excited about 3D coming to video games. Marty McFly said it best - The shark still looks fake.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
you Monster!
Reps from Zipper Interactive confirmed to me that the standard, Sixaxis controller can be used instead of the new "Nav" controller. The Nav replicates the left side of Sixaxis, anyway -- two shoulder buttons, one joystick, and simple gyroscope/motion sensing. Nav also has the face buttons, but so does the Move Wand, so those are a bit superfluous. If you want to save $30 on games that support the Nav, it's an option.
Am I the only one who's getting really sick of shooters? It seems 1st and 3rd person shooters are the "go-to" safe bet genre nowadays, like platformers were in the early '90s. There's only so many times I can shoot the same mooks with the same automatic rifles before I stop enjoying it. There's always another new element promising deeper gameplay (cover mechanics, stealth, vehicles) but you're still aligning the crosshair with the head and pulling the trigger like you were 13 years ago.
Maybe I'm just jaded, but most of the major game announcements at E3 are sequels or riding the coattails of a different blockbuster series. Aside from Last Guardian, all of the atypical games I'm looking forward to are indie games.

I was thinking something similar. I can't look at a new Sony product without thinking, "Well, that will be cool... until they decide it promotes piracy and they shut it off after I bought it." To hell with their products until they fix Other OS.
My friend is blind in one eye. What about people like him?
To those whom think that latency will be just as apparent with move as Kinect, they are most likely severely wrong. Move does not rebuild 3d movement based off of 2 images. Think 3d animation, you see the suits they wear with the balls on them? that is because those balls are MUCH MUCH easier to track then a person in regular clothes. These systems include 10+ cameras usually and the animation still can come out jerky. Move can rebuild 3d animation based solely on the size of the ball(the depth), and use the X and Y motion of the controller. The ball is a known size and based of the size of the ball you can tell how far away it is.
Kinect does not know the size of your body before, it doesn't know the size of your hand, so to try and recreate depth they have to rebuild the depth based off of 2 images that are running image recognition to try and find the similarities and then as I said reconstruct the depth. Real time image recognition is a tedious thing especially when you include that Kinect can only have a general idea of what it will be looking for. Move on the other hand is like a dog, its looking for the ball and it only needs ot find that ball (which is a single color) once.
Mortal Kombat was supposedly over after Armageddon, which in turn meant after MK vs DC I guess. Are they really bringing it back? It sure would be nice if they made another GOOD MK game for once..
The move won't be any better than pointing your arm for precision. All motion detection devices have that level of latency.
Read up on the tech involved. It's sub-microsecond latency for movement, because it's a camera tracking a very obvious target instead of having to compute where the whole of your body is in real time.
Furthermore, as stated there is an actual button - which means zero latency, whereas Kinect has to process your movements to determine if you meant fire which means it has at least whatever latency the body position processing has.
That's why the OP was excited about real buttons. Because even if the move tracking DID have much latency, the buttons for sure will not. As long as it actually fires instantly the moment you can see on screen the virtual you is pointed exactly right, it will work out fine for gaming.

Don't forget about the ARG that they are playing, Check out the wiki here http://portalwiki.net/
we are always updating the status of portal 2 and the ARG
At least I've read that somewhere. (There's going to be a Sly Cooper collection for the PS3 and it's going to support 3d TV.)

But the number of in house or basically in house titles that actually would pull one towards one console or the other is very small.
It's a larger than the list you gave though, in reality titles from the following teams with a strong system draw when they arrive are:
Ico/SHadow Of the Colossus/Last Guardian
Ratchet & Clank (well respected platformer)
Resistance (fall of man)
Killzone
Little Big Planet (a ton of impressive user mods).
Other things are more one-off successes or failures, but new versions of those games can get people to buy consoles (especially so for the Ico team).
Twisted Metal also probably belong on that list, since a lot of people have fond memories from the PS2/PS versions.
