I'm quite happy living in Texas 10 months out of the year. July and August can go to hell. I doubt it's about where you live more than it's about how you live. I'd rather live in a mansion with everything I've ever wanted in north Alaska than be a minimum wage cubicle jockey in Hawaii or Southern California.
Maybe a different type of system? Show a series of animals and ask which one is a pet. Show a series of letters and ask which one is the vowel. A series of types of food and ask which one would go best with Natalie Portman. Show an action shot and a series of similar actions, ask which one would occur in Soviet Russia.
Do you really believe any label with an iota of intelligence would pull all of their work from a distribution network like iTunes? Both sides have power in a situation like this, and the $1.29 is most likely a compromise between the two. Apple is out to make money just as the RIAA is. They hold their customers with just as much contempt as any faceless corporation.
In my mind they're competing against illegal downloads. Some people would rather torrent rather than purchase an album at $1.29 per track, having a lower price could start converting fence-sitters like these.
I tend to agree. Although after just finishing Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series I can definitely see how there is a large gray area between the two. I guess SciFi (speculative fiction according to my English major g/f) is like pr0n, the definition is kind of hazy, but you know it when you see it.
This is how I rationalize it to myself. Not once have I intentionally clicked on an advertisement. By blocking them from my sight I am not depriving them of any clicks. By the same token flipping the channel while watching local TV doesn't make one a pirate because they're not watching the affiliate's commercials does it?
There's nothing wrong with sporting your geekness to the the world. I spent many years dating girls who had the typical thought "he's a geek, but he treats me nice." Now I've finally found one who thinks "he's a geek and he treats me nice." Contrary to popular belief not all/.ers live in their parent's basements, some of us enjoy active lives that include direct sunlight.
Once you find a girl who approves of your plans to build a secret passage in your house, your underwater lightsaber/flashlight, and that she'll always be competing with your computers for your affection there is no going back.
So I say display your geeky side, it's better to attract somebody that likes you for who you are than who you are pretending to be.
Hell the only reason I own a Wii is to play the old retro NES, SNES, and Genesis games. I've tried some of the different Wii games and found myself just wanting to sit on my couch with a controller in my hand. Maybe I'm just getting older. Crotchety at the age of 27.
I agree with you on a theoretical level. But the reality of the situation is much different. The fact that EA has realized that treating their customers like criminals is not good business practice is a vast improvement and I can only hope that other developers follow suit.
Normally I'm as against Big Brother as any other/.er, but in this case I'm not so sure. I live in a college town with notoriously bad drivers. Since the city started putting up cameras at the major intersections I've noticed a significant lowering in light running. I was t-boned last year in my small SUV, I had three friends with the same sort of accidents and one who had it happen three times over the course of two years. If I had been on my motorcycle it would have gone from a t-boning to an old-fashioned boning.
I'll drink to that. I got the NES and SNES emulators working on the Wii, and in all honesty I haven't played many modern games since. Getting back into the Megaman and Final Fantasy series is a pretty neat experience, especially on a new HDTV with a wireless controller. All my childhood dreams of having remote access to all of my games without having to blow in the cartridge have finally come true. Now kindly get off my lawn!
The fact that you were modded flame for this is part of the reason I don't frequent/. as much anymore. I'm certainly no Microsoft apologist, but in this case I have to take their side. But any kind of pro-Microsoft stance automatically brings the haters out of the woodwork.
I would argue that software is not a fundamental right and part of existence. Getting the lawyers involved threatens to open a frightening floodgate of frivolous lawsuits.

So by that logic should Apple be paying us for downloading anything by Journey? (Apologies to Journey fans)

I just got done trying that and I got escorted out! Maybe you should have mentioned that the kitten should be alive.

And you gotta love that haptic feedback!
Wait wait wait, do you mean to tell me there's no hope? Ever!? Where's a suicide booth when you need it?

I can't find the +1 "Dear Lord please don't let me have nightmares about that tonight!" mod.

I call it the finglonger! But I'll need funding to get beyond the prototype phase.
All of that means nothing unless he can capture manbearpig.
I sense a Soviet Russia joke somewhere in here but I can't afford to hire a slashdotter to figure it out. Sad day...
I would personally like to thank you for making me laugh and spit pizza through my nose. I haven't seen Fugitive Alien in a lonnng time.
Don't call him 'buddy' friend!
I'm actually rooting for Real...I've become everything I've ever hated!!!!!

You're right 640 Kbps should be enough for anybody! I'll get off your lawn now.
