  1. What's going to be bad is... on Internet Curfew for College Students? · · Score: 1

What's going to be bad is when students store a research paper or essay on a remote server or online e-mail service and need to access that paper to finish it at 11PM - Midnight etc and can't access it due to their internet restrictions.

I use to do a lot online research late at night but I was never in a dorm either. I guess you can always go the the library to access something like that if they don't shut off that internet either.

NASA used to be a organisation which looked to the future and developed new and astonishing technologies and dared to dream large. There is little left of all this nowadays...

No, NASA is not dropping the ball. They are planning to go back to the moon, live there and then on to Mars. NASA *is* doing big things. For one the ISS is a big thing although, it seems small to you it will be very helpful in the long run to know how to build and assemble a space station that is livable for many months at a time. FFS we're *living* in space. How is that not a big deal?

NASA does what they can with the funding they receive. George W. Bush is doing cut backs on the NASA program so they have to cut expenses on things that they decide are "unnecessary". They have to cut back expenses some where. Maybe if Bush didn't use the money to fund his war (notice I said *his* war) then NASA wouldn't have to cut back on programs that innovate and design new space craft and ideas. If NASA felt that this program was of upmost importance I'm sure they would not have stopped the funding.

When I'm bored of my PC games (mostly FPS, I play a little EVE too) etc it's nice to relax playing some Twilight Princess or Rayman (As much as you can relax while playing Rayman =p).

Do We all really want Dell compiling our kernels for our *nix system? I'd rather do the install myself or just give me a computer with a formatted HD that I can install whatever distro I want on it and compile it the way I want.

The only people who will truely benefit from a pre-installed *nix system will be your average user (I.E. Grandma or Joe Guy) who (as someone already pointed out) doesn't care how it was compiled as long as they can send e-mails and photos of their 50th Wedding Anniversary to all of their friends.

Linux on the desktop can do everything most users want (e-mail, photos, web browsing, instant message, etc.) if not more. Everyone knows this already.

IMO the only ones being picky about which distro and version would rather install and compile it themselves anyway.

Dell just needs to pick a distro that's user friendly (Ubuntu, SuSE, Fedora) and support that on their major models of Hardware. If it comes with Ubuntu Edgy Eft and you want Feisty Fawn then I'm sure you already now how to upgrade that or recompile the kernel as needed.

Actually you are wrong. You can play WoW on private servers (done so myself even though I legally pruchased/played the game. Heck I even setup my OWN server so I could admin myself and hack/cheat all I wanted...No fall damage...instant level 255, any ingame weapon/armor). I'm not sure on other MMOs I haven't tried but I'm sure the same is possible. Also, Unreal Tournament 2004, Half Life 2, Call of Duty 2, all playable online if setup correctly or played on "cracked" servers. Of course you miss out on playing on the real servers full of whiney trash talking 12 y/o's.

Online games, if you require authentication then there is a reason to purchase the game.

Maybe, but this presents a problem in its self. What of the people that don't have an internet connection or have such a slow connection that this one be a hassle (example: dial-up)? Not everyone is on broadband and always connected and online. What if I wanted to play my Wii in my car on an LCD? Or at Grandma's house who doesn't know what the internet is? Or at a friends house who lives so far out in town can't get a decent internet connection? (don't laugh I live in Alabama =p)

Making someone connect to the internet to authenticate for EVERY game, EVERYTIME you wanted to play would be annoying and they would lose out on a big marketshare if all games required this. Don't get my wrong I like surfing the net on my Wii but if before I bought it I knew I had to authenticate my copy before I could play it I wouldn't buy the system at all (*cough* Apple's Fairplay *cough*).

    Just my opinion though.
