    That's not entirely true. A long while back I had an account with geocities. That account name had a - in it. Then geocities was bought out by yahoo. The net result being I have a @yahoo.com email account with a - in it.

    It also meant during their last email server upgrade I was without email at that account for about a month because for whatever reason their server couldnt handle my-name@yahoo.com. However I could still recieve email at my-name@geocities.com.

    Go figure.

    Except they changed something the last week or so. I used to be able to refresh from the inbox of my yahoo mail and it would work, now it takes me back to the main mailbox page with their 3/4 page add and the links to each part of the mail section.

    It's REALLY annoying.

    A "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" usually means that there is something wrong with a physical component of the machine. Usually it's leaking capacitors or a damaged processor.

    From what I've gathered from talking to people from the company, basically they have created new products that run on windows back ends and basically deprecated the SCO Unix stuff.

    SCO Unix is the operating system used by one of the more popular retail POS systems on the market named Micros.

    Micros is really popular in the restaurant industry in general.

    Because you develop using their IDE that runs on windows. They want more windows developers, it doesn't really matter if they can run the program on multiple platforms as long as the majority run it on windows.

    Except you don't really know what you are talking about.

    VirtualPC was originally a POWER PC program that emulated an X86 environment, not the other way around.

    Microsoft distributes it as an X86 program that emulates a X86 Environment.

    Let me ask you this. If you are under the age of 40 and the government offered to lower your taxes by say 15-20%, but you would not be eligable for any social programs later in life, would you take it?

    I work for a casino also.
    We have banned cameras on the casino floor and the back of house areas.
    Near the table games people can't even have their cell phone on.

    I work in the I.S. department and I was recently told I could no longer bring my Dell Axim into work because people were afraid that I could remove data from property with it.

    I rebutted with, If I really wanted to steal data, don't you think I would have done it already? Or maybe I could email it to myself, or burn a CD, or connect to the network via VPN, and download it from there. I mean seriously, where does the stupidness end?

    My Axim is sitting in my bedroom at home.

    I'm on a company computer, which doesn't allow me to instal firefox. I assume that many people don't have additional computers at home which would mean they need to use their company loaners for personal use as well.

    This is one of those comments that just pisses me off. As someone who has to deal with people installing things on company machines, usually some kind of spyware, even after being repeatedly told not to, I have to say that your statement is ridiculous.

    If you aren't allowed to install software on your machine at work, you probably shouldn't be using it for PERSONAL use. You shouldn't be logging into your bank account, or slashdot on that computer.

    If your work issues you a laptop for work reasons, guess what, that is work property. You shouldn't be using it for personal reasons. Just because it's at your house doesn't make it yours.

    Your bank account and personal email passwords will be safe if you only use them on your machines that are properly protected.

    You don't have to use the enhanced features of Firefox in order to benefit from it.

    Did you even read the article? It features yet another exploit that IE is vulnerable to that Firefox isn't. Even if you never use the tabbed browsing, the extensions, or the plug in support, you are benefitting from simply USING it.

    As far as the looks are concerned, I am pretty sure there are themes available to make Firefox look like IE or pretty close to it.

    Not only that, but up at least till 6 months ago, and probably still a huge point of sale vendor by the name of Micros used SCO Unix for the back end server used to control the POS terminals.

    Fine, our population has been growing constantly the last 100 years. The last 4 years a lot of people have entered the workforce because they weren't old enough before, or were going to college.

    Either way, there are more working-age adults than there were last year, or the year before, etc.

    I'm not so sure about you, but my computer is a "limited resource computing device". My computer doesn't have unlimited ram, hard drive space or cpu power.

    The main problem with patents like this is that you can patent something in such broad terms that it can be stretched to fit any definition they want it to fit.

    No... I suggest you Do some research on TCP/IP.
    Suppose you have 15 computers chewing the limit of bandwidth, not crushingly, but maybe 80%. Then, one person is shopping mstewart, another pron, and another Home Depot, another on globaldefense.org, and so on. How likely is it that just one person can type in all the URLs (talkn' 'bout by hand), respond to the information/requests, and keep surfing?
    That's what they call in court "circumstantial evidence. Theres no way to prove that isn't all coming from one machine. I could have a program on my computer that sets out spidering websites looking for pages on certain subjects or just archiving them for offline use. There are probably a hundred different reasons that could explain that traffic.
    Can't the MAC addresses be queried at some level? thought that some bad NICs could be tricked. If it is not possible at all, the apologies. But, I am wary. Ever since the CIA and Telcos have been in bed, it's likely that even cell phones TURNED OFF can be tracked. Just embed a cell-polling chip or interrogator chip in the battery pack. Of course, I've not rigged and radio direction finding gear near my cell to test this, but I think eventually it will be in all phones "as an augmentation to 9/11 rescue assistance for the disabled motorist or stranded pedestrian...". Yep...
    I think you should do some research into TCP/IP if you are seriously that wary. MAC addresses are only visible to other machines on your local switch or hub. They don't route.

    I'm pretty sick of everyone dissing the pokemon game.

    People see it, and think it's instantly a kiddy game without even giving it a chance. It's a fairly decent RPG, which the Gameboy SP is lacking a lot of. It also takes a fair amount of strategy with regards to choosing which moves to keep, which ones to discard, and what pokemon types you want in your group.

    In fact, most of the people over at the Gamefaqs Pokemon boards are in their late teens and early 20s.

    But then again, there is a *gasp* cartoon that is focused at kids, so lets go back to the blind, ignorant, hatred.
