Really. I am no tin foil haberdasher, but Monsanto steamrolls through farm country like a nasty hay-seed (pun intended) Napoleon. And if you think they don't have numerous rural Congress folks in their pockets, please think again. Your food chain is far scarier than most know. I can't say I have some terrible fear of some horrid mutated crop gone wrong, but I can say I fear the corruption of democracy and our food supply that Monsanto perpetuates.
iTunes carries a pretty good classical catalog for a casual listener as myself. If you can't find what you want online maybe you could contact the artists/label directly? I can only imagine the website sells the cds if they aren't selling digitally through another outlet.
Is your IQ over 125? Good! You have shown sufficient intelligence that can help you pilfer company secrets, embezzle funds, lie to us about why you missed work, lie to us about what you did with your expense account and in general cause us trouble because you are so darned smart! IQ will never measure - character, honesty, motivation, drive, creativity and countless other attributes.
A buddy of mine and I were doing the same dry ice thing a few years back. Just good old curiosity. What the heck is gonna happen if we drop dry ice, water and seal up the two liter? Honestly, it's a MUCH bigger bang than I would have thought. The top and fragments were sent all over the driveway. So after the third ones the neighbors called, and we realized it was time to stop : ) I do remember thinking that something like this, packed with the wrong stuff inside could cause some trouble. I guess, in a strict sense, it is a bomb after all.
Side note... taking pictures of oil refineries, oil pipelines in south Louisiana (pre-spill, mind you, post 9/11) will get you harassed quickly by local law enforcement. I remember telling one officer, "You know, this used to be a free country." Instead of getting irate he began the "hey look, just doing my job" routine. He then went on to talk about all the press restrictions and lock-down procedures they have if an accident or attack were ever to happen at an oil processing facility. It's sad how much money, effort and energy is wasted on keeping us "safe" from terror.... I mean think about it; what did OBL and company spend in bringing down the twin towers? What have we spent since? What have we "gained" in the war of terror? In terms of dollars to outcome; we have lost. Terribly.
I, too, wish I could pay once for my data stream. I, too, wish companies would just let me "pay once" for the service. And what are the chances in the U.S. of having telecoms wake up and declare, "Folks, we're just making too damned much money! It's time to think of customers, give them better services and charge them less. I hereby renounce all bonuses and profit!!"
Oh, we didn't understand what was read to us? Let's translate, "God made the Universe, then put Peter and the Pope in charge. If you don't bow down to the Pope we will make war on you, kill your children, and, laugh of laughs, it will be YOUR FAULT!
I pray they aren't bringing some of their holy people and a scroll... And if ET is anything like advanced humans, we are toast, really. And FSM help us if we have elements they covet floating in our crust...
Why try fusion here on Earth? We've got access to a massive fusion reactor that spews out terrawatts of free power, every second, every day for another 5 billion or so years. (give or take a few) Harnessing the sun, at a cheap price, will change humanity, and it should be viewed as our next step. All other problems are far more easily solved with a massive, free energy supply. Of course, it can't be free, but good sturdy funding can help us crack the expense of solar. It's such an obvious power source that it's.... blinding:)
Whoa there, cowboyneal. Any one else notice what this summary is all about? Twitter is terrible! It hurts! Twitter bad! Google, however, is goooood. Goooood gooooogle. Use Google, NOT Twitter! Slashvertising for the pandemic age?
SO TRUE. How many Americans have lived somewhere else? How do they know they are #1 at everything? Seriously, what does it mean to be a "proud American" if the only thing many (not all) Americans did was frickin' show up in the delivery room? Where is the achievement to cause pride? Immigrants that bust their ass and EARN citzenship; they have much to be proud of.
That said. I agree with what many have said, "No shit!" Live in area with boom-boom cars, crack and meth problems, murder rates through the roof, recovering from a hurricane or two, broken public education system, corrupt politicians... yeah, that SHOULD affect your mood. When I lived in a medium Japanese city on the Sea of Japan at the foot of the Tateyama Range I had the best two years of my life. One of the greatest joys was not being worried about being car-jacked, mugged or hit up for spare change from the omnipresent crack-heads of the city where I live. Go figure, improve scenery, safety and quality of life and mood goes up, too. Mod researchers +5 Duh.
"no amount of... solar is going to deliver that."
Why work on fusion here on earth? The Sun already does that... FOR FREE. Harnessing solar, harnessing the power of our star, seems the way to go. Expensive only for the moment. Hell, catching solar power is like standing with a bucket in a downpour... just SHOW UP. Course, we are talking about a really, really fancy bucket... with gold trim and extra bling on the handle...
Also as a teacher, I can observe what anyone today can observe. What is the average age of a teacher? Unless you are in some hurricane recovery school or some white hot new charter school I'd be willing to say the majority of teachers are women 45-60+. An assumption perhaps, but do you think this crowd would be anywhere near tech savvy?
As a social studies teacher I am happy to see people discussing the idea. Maybe the open source government has no chance of succeeding, but to hear talk of different governing styles is a good thing. Don't get me wrong, I love the promise and potential our U.S. Constitution offers (note the PATRIOT ACT is NOT part of the Constitution tyvm) but am also aware of some shortcomings. Society, like the animal kingdom, evolves. Therefore to say we are stuck with the late 1700s as the best we can do for a backbone is selling ourselves short. Though it can be said that Japan's postwar constitution was something of an update of that system. If the open source idea sounds terrible, then perhaps throw out some alternatives. Why not kick around ideas? With elections hinged on money and elected officials seemingly tied to a cycle of the constant reelection game, discussions on alternatives can't make things any worse.
Not flamebait, but hey, it was my tax dollars that funded the agents, and my tax dollars were hard at work as these men went about "fighting" crime. So the point is a bit sarcastic. The sad truth being that in this PATRIOT ACT world we now live in, compliance keeps you open for business, non-compliance can get you closed down, or worse. Think any page-shuffling librarian really wants to risk a vacation at Gitmo?
And now to find a dating method...
Ah, yes. The age old Slashdot male conundrum!!

Have no fear! As Miss Teen South Carolina reminds us..."Most people don't have maps." There is nothing to worry about.

Nietzschecraft is a lot like Warcraft, just far more German sounding...
Thanks Slashdot, the worlds takes nerds more seriously right now.
Yes, that's right, ALL of the worlds... Bow the motherfuck down, bitch!
My all time favorite Clippy piece, but the language is not family friendly... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6aXzMuYN7U Interesting use of Clippy as a character http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjC_0HkLgi8
The "7" layer cake is a lie... (had to!)
Why the Milliard (sic) Fillmore tag? What does the 13th president have to do with this. Sorry for my noob question...
With hamster supply low and boredom running high... Could be. Try checking the astronauts digestive tracts...
Swearing in won't take place till early January, just ahead of the presidential inauguration on January 20. Don't expect any action on Nov 5 :)
"a person who doesn't want to be found".
I just can't shake John Cleese from telling me how not to be seen. Maybe choosing a clever piece of cover will distract the robots...
